Chapter 89: Bawang's Ability
It was late in the morning, and the sun was already high in the sky.
In the middle of a vast desert, a dinosaur over thirty meters long was slowly trudging forward. On its back sat a row of people, all draped in wind- and sand-resistant cloaks.
"Say, that subordinate of yours… how about giving him to me?"
Crocodile looked down at the hunting dragon beneath him, then cast a calm glance toward Jiang Qize.
That giant was already impressive enough, and now, after eating a Dinosaur-type Devil Fruit and growing even stronger, there was a faint pressure radiating from him that made Crocodile's heart tighten slightly.
He couldn't help but feel a little envious.
"Ask him if he's willing." Jiang Qize's lips curved slightly.
"As long as you say the word, he'll agree. I'll give you one billion… how about it?"
"Weren't you just saying you were broke?"
"There are always ways to scrape together a little," Crocodile replied, his eyes flickering with embarrassment, though he kept his face cold.
"Heh…"
Jiang Qize gave a faint, mocking smile — Sure, keep making things up.
Crocodile felt his stare and awkwardly turned his head away.
Today, luck was on their side.
They didn't encounter any sandstorms.
After more than an hour of travel, they finally arrived at Alabasta's only oasis — Yuba.
Before them spread a patch of green forest. The trees were thin and frail, and the soil beneath them had already begun to show signs of desertification.
From the back of Raptorex, they could see the city of Yuba beyond the forest — no tall buildings, only houses made of wood and clay.
"Let's go in quietly," Jiang Qize said softly.
He knew well that the World Government had eyes everywhere. If they were spotted here, there was no telling what conclusions might be drawn.
"Mm." Crocodile nodded.
Everyone jumped down from the dinosaur's back.
"Raptorex, stay here."
"Yes, sir," the creature replied.
Then, the group headed inward.
This time, Camon and the others didn't come along — only Bawang and Robin accompanied them.
The four of them made their way through the forest and soon emerged onto the streets of Yuba.
Because they were all wrapped in cloaks and scarves that covered everything but their eyes, no one paid them much attention.
Instead, people were more intrigued by the odd pair following behind — Bawang, who kept reading as he walked, and the small, quiet Robin trailing behind him. It was an unusual sight.
"How are we even supposed to find it…" Crocodile frowned.
Jiang Qize didn't answer him. Instead, he turned to Bawang. "Bawang — it's your turn."
"Him?" Crocodile gave the man a doubtful look.
To him, Bawang was nothing more than a scholar — what could he possibly do?
"Yes."
Bawang closed the book in his hands.
His eyes flickered — at one moment shining with light, the next dark as ink.
He held the book in his left arm, drew his right hand into a fist, and bent his waist like a drawn bow — then drove his fist hard into the ground.
Boom!
The tremendous force struck the earth, making the ground tremble violently.
An invisible wave burst from his body, spreading outward in all directions.
Bawang closed his eyes.
Crocodile frowned as he watched.
What the hell is he doing…?
After more than ten seconds, Bawang opened his eyes again — twin beams of light flashing from them.
"Sir, I've found it."
His voice was calm.
Jiang Qize's lips curved upward.
As expected.
Bawang's Observation Haki had already reached an advanced level. The extended ability it granted was practically like a computer's analytical system. Combined with his extraordinary intellect, he could create vibrations through the ground, then use Observation Haki to scan the subterranean tremors — analyzing the patterns to determine locations.
With this method, they could quickly find their target.
