Chapter 2 - A Fight For Love

The next morning, Amelia's phone kept ringing nonstop.

Henry looked up from tying his shoes. "Who's calling you like that?"

She swallowed nervously. "My mother."

Henry froze. "…You told her?"

Amelia shook her head quickly. "No! I planned to, but—"

The phone rang again. This time, Amelia picked up.

"Amelia!" her mother's sharp voice exploded through the speaker. "Where are you? We heard something terrible!"

"Mum… please calm down."

"Are you pregnant?" her father's deep voice joined the call. "Pregnant for that poor boy?!"

Amelia's heart pounded. Henry's eyes were filled with fear.

"Yes, I'm pregnant," she said softly but boldly. "And I'm with Henry because I love him."

Her mother gasped like she was stabbed.

"Love? What will love feed you? You left comfort to suffer with a nobody?!"

Henry looked down, ashamed.

"Mum, he takes care of me," Amelia defended.

Her father's voice turned cold. "We didn't send you to university to become a disgrace. Come home now. Leave that boy."

"No," Amelia replied immediately.

Henry's head shot up surprised and grateful.

"What did you say?!" her mother screamed.

"I said NO!" Amelia repeated, tears falling. "I choose Henry. I choose our baby."

Her father's voice turned dangerous.

"Amelia, if you walk this path, we wash our hands off you.No more support. Nothing."

Amelia was shaking, but she held her belly protectively.

"Then I will work. We will survive."

She hung up before her courage disappeared.

The silence in the room was heavy.

"Amelia…" Henry whispered. "You didn't have to—"

"Yes, I did," she interrupted. "I'm not ashamed of you. I'm proud to carry your child."

Henry hugged her tightly, but she felt the tremble in his body the fear.

A loud knock suddenly hit the door.

Grace rushed in. "Brother! Mama said Amelia's parents are outside and they look angry!"

Henry's heart dropped. He grabbed Amelia's hand.

"We can't let them insult Mama," he said. "Pack your things. We're leaving."

Amelia nodded, wiping her tears quickly. Grace helped fold her clothes while Sofia cried, "You're going? Don't go!"

Amelia hugged the little girl. "We'll come back to visit, I promise."

Henry rushed to Isabella, his mother.

"Mama… I'm sorry. I have to protect her."

Isabella nodded, though tears covered her cheeks.

"You are a man now. Do what you must. But don't forget you have a home here."

Henry bowed his head, grateful. "Thank you, Mama."

Shouting voices echoed from outside — Amelia's parents demanding to see her.

Henry grabbed Amelia's bag. "We're leaving through the back."

They slipped out quietly, holding hands tightly, leaving behind all familiarity.

After walking far, Amelia asked softly:

"Where will we go?"

Henry pointed to a tiny building up ahead.

"It's not much… just one room. But it will be our home."

They entered the small rented room — cracked walls, old mattress, no kitchen, no bathroom inside.

Amelia looked around silently.

Henry's voice was low and full of guilt.

"I know it's not what you deserve. But I'll work harder. I'll give you better."

Amelia stepped close, lifting his chin.

"I don't care about walls. I care about who I'm with inside them."

Henry couldn't hold the tears anymore. He hugged her like he never wanted to let go.

"We'll make this place our beginning," he whispered.

"Yes," she smiled. "Our beginning… and the start of our happy future."

They stood in the center of the empty room scared but together, poor but in love, uncertain but hopeful.
