"What are you doing?" I ask the men as I back off from them, slowly getting closer to the edge of the roof with each step I take.
"Your father is nowhere to be found." The man in the front says, looking straight at me. My father. The man I left hoping for a normal life just to be caught and forced to pay off his debts one by one.
"How is that any of my business?" I stare at him without showing any fear but in fact, my heart is about to jump through my ribcage.
"Before he disappeared, he signed a contract. In case of his sudden disappearance or death, the debts should be moved to his closest relative."
He looks at me and smiles but the smile doesn't reach his eyes. "You."
What!? No! I am already struggling enough. It's not fair that I have to go through something like this and he can just disappear, leaving me behind in this mess! It's his fault and he should be the one who should bear the consequences.
"We can use anything to get the money back and if you can't or refuse to pay, we are allowed to take your life."
"H-How much does he own you?" I ask with a shaking voice as I touch the railing. The man's smile widens. "Six million dollars."
I can't pay it off even if I worked 3 jobs till the rest of my life. It's impossible. Am I really going to die just because my father disappeared and left a huge debt for me?
"Tell us, boy. Are you able to pay it off or we need to move to plan B?" Some of the men burst out laughing at his words, others pull out their weapons, not even waiting for the answer.
"N-No..." "I guess the answer is obvious then." The man replies and looks at the rest of his gang. "Oh boys, you are not supposed to scare him. We can always use other methods to let him die in peace."
"Like?" They all ask in unison and the man chuckles. "How about we throw him off the roof?"
He turns around to look at me and notices the shocked expression on my face. "Or do you want to jump yourself?"
I don't even think about it as I turn around and jump. Please, if there are any Gods, let them save me.
