Chapter 87 - Chapter 88: The Incident

The eight-seater SUV driven by Ed was traveling on the highway, and York had already opened the first page of the data.

His steady driving skills, the smooth highway, and the stability of the car allowed him to remain in the most comfortable state.

York' gaze slowly shifted.

The location of The Warrens' commissioned incident was Jersey City, New Jersey, only about twenty kilometers from New York.

This incident was different from previous supernatural events; it wasn't simply known by a fixed few people. Instead, it garnered considerable attention due to reports on the city's television station.

According to the television station's report, they learned of the matter because a local patrol officer's archived incident report about a family of five, along with local rumors, piqued the journalists' curiosity.

Based on the patrol report and local accounts, the Peggy Family was experiencing a series of very strange occurrences.

For example, there would be sounds of people walking at night, lights would turn on automatically, and the TV would suddenly turn on in the middle of the night and start playing, along with a series of other very strange things.

More importantly, after receiving the alarm, when two patrol officers went to investigate, they personally witnessed a chair in the kitchen suddenly move on its own towards them, without anyone touching it, and then rush straight to hit the door.

York narrowed his eyes and continued reading, based on the reporter's interview with the patrol officers.

Initially, the patrol officers suspected that the Peggy Family had orchestrated it themselves, but no matter how they investigated, they couldn't find anything to explain the phenomenon. They could only conclude that the incident was beyond their capabilities.

Before they even left, another stool suddenly moved towards them, startling them... York showed no expression; this was just a routine act by evil spirits, capable of frightening ordinary people, but in his eyes, it was very common.

Skipping the interview, York focused on the protagonists of the incident in the data, the Peggy Family.

"Another single-parent family, a single mother..."

He couldn't help but recall Morse's words earlier. York shook his head and turned to the next page. Single-parent families were indeed becoming more common recently.

With the television station's involvement, reporters quickly brought in an expert on paranormal phenomena to accompany them to the Peggy Family for interviews and investigations.

After the investigation, this so-called investigation expert pinpointed Janet, the second daughter of the Peggy Family.

Because the root of the matter originated from her.

According to Janet and her elder sister Margaret, who shared a room with her.

Janet would always suddenly appear in the living room in the middle of the night.

Occasionally, she would make a rough voice, as if she were another person.

Or she would inexplicably talk to the void by herself, truly as if conversing with someone who didn't exist.

She could even float in the air, and in her room, Legos and furniture were flying around... Seeing this, York' eyebrows raised slightly. According to conventional theory, this evil spirit hadn't yet reached the point where it could exert more power, unless... "Does this little girl have a Spiritual Medium Physique?"

Staring at the photo of Janet floating in the air in the data, York silently put down the interview materials in his hand and subconsciously looked at Rowling, who was sitting next to him.

Rowling was a person with a Spiritual Medium Physique.

However, Rowling, who possessed both a Spiritual Medium Physique and Yin-Yang Eyes, had already fallen into a deep sleep, sleeping soundly, as if she hadn't slept for a long time.

Ed, in the front seat, had been paying attention. Seeing York turn to look at Rowling, he immediately spoke.

"Father Yorkes, do you have any questions? If so, you can ask me."

"No." York shook his head. "I think this Janet might be like Rowling, capable of communicating with spirits."

Ed multitasked, looking at the car's rearview mirror while also watching the road.

"Father, I think so too. You can take a look at the video they sent over."

"..."

Hearing this, York looked at the tablet computer next to him, picked it up, and with a few taps, opened the interview video.

As the tablet screen changed, new footage quickly appeared.

The protagonist, Janet, and her elder sister Margaret, who shared a room with her and understood the situation well, were seated on the sofa.

The reporter and the so-called paranormal investigation expert also sat in front of the sofa and began the interview.

Once everyone was in place, following the procedure, the reporter looked at the two sisters and asked first: "What's it like living in a haunted house?"

Margaret: "It's hard to say. You can't get used to it. Before these things happened, we were just an ordinary family."

The reporter looked at the protagonist, Janet.

Janet: "Things got worse after Mr. Gross started communicating."

Because of this sentence, the reporter and the investigation expert in the interview video exchanged glances.

York, who was watching, felt a stir in his heart, confirming his inner speculation.

Indeed, the protagonist Janet was an ordinary person with a Spiritual Medium Physique, just like Rowling, who was sleeping next to him.

There is a barrier between soul entities and ordinary people. Only those with a Spiritual Medium Physique can penetrate this barrier and communicate directly with soul entities or evil spirits.

Ordinary people without a Spiritual Medium Physique, without the aid of certain rituals, find it very difficult to converse with evil spirits or departed souls, as the spaces they inhabit are not in the same dimension.

The video continued.

Investigation Expert: "What do you mean by communicating?"

Janet: "He would ask questions, and he said if I nodded twice it meant yes, and once meant no..."

"..."

"Not an evil spirit, but a lingering departed soul that hasn't dissipated?" York arrived at another conclusion and a question in his mind.

"What does the nun want to do? An Inductive Trap (Inductive Trap)?"

"..."

When the reporter and the investigation expert learned that Janet could communicate with what seemed to be a departed soul, they began to ask probing questions.

"I want to know, what would happen if we tried to communicate with him now?"

Janet: "I don't know if he's willing to communicate with you."

Investigation Expert: "Let's try."

This sentence rang out from the tablet. The bearded investigation expert in the video said it, then suddenly sought dialogue with the void.

"Is anyone there!"

"Does anyone want to come out and communicate?"

However, with just this simple questioning, Janet on the sofa became increasingly abnormal; her body twisted unnaturally.

The investigation expert might have noticed this and continued to seek dialogue with the void.

"Does anyone want to come out and try to talk with us?"

"Is no one there?"

"..."

Janet suddenly let out a beast-like shriek.

It was as if an electronic magnetic field appeared throughout the room, and the lights flickered on and off.

Because of this sudden scene, everyone stared blankly at Janet, who was twisting her body on the sofa.

Only the investigation expert managed to maintain some composure, staring at Janet and cautiously asking.

"Janet? Are you alright?"

A rough voice burst from Janet's mouth.

"Don't call me Janet!!!"

York pursed his lips, staring at Janet in the video. He knew that at this moment, that departed soul or evil spirit had possessed the little girl...
