Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Must Survive

At the orphanage, Su Chen and Su Qingwan were the most special existences.

They basically did not interact with anyone else, which led everyone at the orphanage to view the two of them as weirdos, but this had nothing to do with them.

However, later, a person came. The moment she saw Su Qingwan, she decided to adopt the little girl.

But at that time, Su Qingwan simply did not want to be separated from Su Chen. So, Su Chen was taken along as a package deal, adopted by that person together. Afterwards, the two were given their current names, Su Chen and Su Qingwan.

Their original names were long forgotten by the two of them. Back then, names were essentially meaningless to them. Their new names were like a new starting point, giving them a chance to start over.

Logically, things should have proceeded smoothly from here; the two should have grown up, gone to school, and lived their lives without incident. But fate played yet another not-so-small joke on them.

Just when the two were in middle school, the woman who adopted them died in an accident-though it couldn't entirely be called an accident.

That woman's surname was Su, and her name was Su Qi.

She had always lived alone. For some reason, she never spoke about matters related to her personal life.

Su Qi had a very good temper, was helpful, and would never stand idly by when she saw bad things happening, which indeed brought her quite a lot of trouble.

The three of them got along quite harmoniously. After a period of adjustment, their relationship was no different from that of a real family. Three lonely people gathered together, warming each other, licking each other's wounds.

Life should have continued on this stable path.

But Heaven always likes to joke. A serious illness took everything from Su Qi. Her savings were exhausted by medicine and various expenses, leaving only a house behind-the only thing she had left in this city after all these years.

It was also the last thing she left to Su Chen and Su Qingwan.

She chose to abandon treatment, helplessly leaving Su Chen and Su Qingwan behind and passing away. In the end, she still left a shelter for these two kids.

There was something both fortunate and unfortunate: Su Qi had no relatives whatsoever. She had lonely entered the children's world, and left just as lonely. Even her funeral was barely managed by Su Chen, who was only in his teens at the time.

Su Qi's house was thus left to Su Chen and Su Qingwan, but she didn't leave anything more behind, and there were no valuable items in the house.

That house is the one Su Chen and the others live in now. At that time, they faced a predicament: they needed to find a way to earn money and survive.

Without discussion or hesitation, Su Chen resolutely dropped out of school and began his path of working odd jobs. Under Su Chen's stern demands, Su Qingwan continued her studies.

His little sister must have the best life. Whatever others had, she must have it too.

This was the only thought in the teenage Su Chen's mind, and he was prepared to face all hardships.

An underage child, although a teenager is already growing tall, how could his strength or work experience compare to an adult's? Furthermore, he couldn't sign a labor contract at all. Wanting to work and earn money was far from simple.

Su Chen had been a restaurant waiter, a porter, collected trash, set up street stalls... one could say that as long as it was something that could earn money, Su Chen wouldn't let it pass, even if the pay wasn't much.

The grievances suffered and the hardships encountered during this process were truly innumerable. But he never spoke of these things to Su Qingwan. Every time he saw her, Su Chen smiled like a fool.

She was his little sister, the best little sister in this world. Just one of her smiles was enough to dispel all his weariness.

This kind of life lasted for six years. Now, Su Qingwan was already in university and had grown into a very beautiful young woman. Her grades had always been very good.

She could have tested into a very good school, but she silently filled out her college entrance exam application for a university in this city, because her home and her older brother were here.

Now, Su Chen already had a formal job, but Su Qingwan was still very strong-willed. Knowing how hard it was for her brother, aside from consistently getting her annual scholarship, she also worked part-time during her spare time.

Her school wasn't far from home, so she always lived at home. The smiles on their faces had also increased compared to before. It seemed the hard days had finally come to an end.

But Su Chen never expected to encounter such a thing at this time, leaving him utterly unsure of how to resolve it.

If he couldn't return to normal and died for no reason, this small family's finances would instantly collapse by half. Although the money he had saved over the past few years was enough for Su Qingwan's university life for now, what about afterwards?

Without him, what should Su Qingwan do? Although she was strong-willed, she was still a girl in the end.

Su Chen's heart was a turmoil of mixed feelings; he didn't know what emotion he was feeling now. But he knew one thing: no matter what, he could not die. Only by living could he find a way to solve his current predicament.

Only by living could he return to his own life and return to Su Qingwan's side. But how easy was that?

Not to mention anything else, just at this moment, he didn't even know how to get down from his own bed.

The height of this bed, to his current self, was like a cliff. A drop of hundreds of meters could completely turn him into a pile of mush. He didn't dare jump down recklessly.

While thinking, Su Chen did not forget to investigate the situation on his bed. He suspected the sudden change that happened to him, feeling that things weren't that simple.

If logically speaking, there should be something in his room that caused his body to undergo this change. His current goal was to search his room for that possibly existing thing that turned him into his current state.

If that thing truly existed, then perhaps he could use it to change himself back.

Of course, this was the best-case scenario. Although Su Chen held hope in his heart, he also knew that, given his current size, wanting to investigate the entire room was extremely difficult.

Just as Su Chen was persevering, walking on his bed, a series of huge impact sounds came from extremely far away, sounding to Su Chen's ears like rumbling thunder from the horizon!

Accompanying it was a melody amplified a hundredfold, as if someone was playing something through a speaker that could magnify the volume a hundred times.

This sound made Su Chen instinctively cover his ears and collapse onto the bedsheet in agony. He felt the sound was about to deafen him.

But in just an instant, Su Chen recovered. He found that the sound seemed to have become much smaller, and his ears could actually adapt completely, though the sound was still somewhat loud.

And just as Su Chen adapted and looked towards the source of the sound, the room's door was suddenly opened. A huge shadow appeared on the floor at the doorway. Someone had entered.
