Does a demon cares about its own life? Not really. Same goes for Steel too.
He doesn't have any emotional connection to his life. If he were to thing about it his life has only been misery and pain. Every day was worse than the last. He had to hide at every waking moment, steal to fill his stomach and there was nobody who cared about him.
He still believes that his death would mean nothing to a single person.
Nothing is stopping him to just end this pointless thing, life. But he can't really end his own life as Mother's curse stops him from doing it.
He also doesn't really wants to kill himself just cause of some meaningless human reason. He is a demon so why does he even care about it? Also dying would hurt a lot.
Perhaps, for him to keep going is just because he hates this pain. He has experienced all kinds of pain. So he rather not kill himself. That just sounds dumb.
There are people who commit suicide. He has no idea why though. Humans sure are complicated and weird.
His reasons to live isn't grand or anything unique. But Steel wants to live cause why not.
So watching a human who doesn't care about getting hurt or have any preservation of self. It just really disgust him. That is also the reason why he hates Devil spawns so much.
Steel now isn't gonna give the man some grand wisdom about loving your own life. Why would he? He is a demon. He doesn't really care. The whole thing is just annoying to fathom.
He waits for five or ten minutes before talking to him. Letting War to calm himself down. He looks deranged and crazed.
Who knows. Maybe if Steel were to disturb him out of this trance. He would start hunting him down. Looking at him now, he really doesn't look much different from a devil spawn.
'…He does look gross.'
Steel is oblivious to War's sexual reactions after defeating an enemy. Even if he knew about it. He would still just call it weird. He needs to work on his vocabulary. He is an educated demon, unlike River who is probably just illiterate or something.
He looks around his surroundings that are covered with guts and blood of the snake devil that is now mixed with that Singing bat's flesh. It is quite a sight to behold.
'so what? I also killed that useless slug. That thing was hard to kill…'
Steel comforts himself with that thought.
He also hoped to see some darkness inside of that big creature. But no, he found nothing to snatch. Whenever he is involved in killing a Devil spawn there is never a reward for him. It is just not fair.
He sighs in disappointment.
Some time pass and his patience is running out.
"Hey, you okay…uhh…War?"
War looks around himself as if he forgot what had happened. His flesh was restoring itself very slowly but it is efficient like it is recovering back to a new self.
Steel wonders if this guy is a masochist or something. Who would enjoy pain of getting stabbed nine or ten times by Devil spawns. He also doesn't know what do masochist even like so his guess is as best as this one.
Finally War looks at Steel and smiles. He says.
"Weather is quite nice today…"
Steel looks at the sky and replies.
"I guess…"
Then silence falls in the surroundings. War keeps on smiling and Steel. Actually, he doesn't know what to do or say.
It is quite awkward.
"Hey, I asked if you are okay or not. Is your brain matter is also lost in the visceral?"
Instead of answering. He stretches his body a little. It looks like he body is recovered enough.
His healing or whatever you wanna call it is unique as it isn't making the body anew. It is taking form the outside to restore itself. Like the kills that he has acquired are the source of that recovery.
It could be speculated that by killing devil spawns or other creatures. He gains something in return that helps him regenerate quicky.
Maybe it can even be stored in his soul. So he can recover his body from wounds where ever he wants. Steel can only guess what kind of weird things his soul is capable of doing. Also his Soul name.
'Lust for blood. Can you get any Obvious? His soul probably didn't even needed to thing before adopting that name.'
Soul names are not always have the same meaning, But this time Steel just wants to believe that this was an exception.
After stretching for few minutes. He answers.
"Yes, Friend. I am fine as ever. What about you?"
Steel just looks at him and answer sarcastically.
"Yeah, I am pretty hurt and beat. Killing this Devil spawns is a pretty tiring business. Don't you think?"
War smiles with amusement and nods with approval.
Steel is getting tired of playing around the bush with this guy. So he comes clean out.
"Sooo what you doing here? I thought royalties aren't really interest in protecting those civilians of Boneyard."
Ghost himself doesn't care about the people who lives here. There are people who are actually outcaste or refugees that lives in West world. People can't just teleport form west world to East world easily. Ghost himself gave them a home in boneyard but later, he neglected him. Now only government seem to protect them.
The boneyard is just two decades old. But seeing the inside life of the people really makes you question how can an entire city can even be build in here so quick?
There is some hand of Government that is involved and some form the Soulheart clan. Does people call it a clan? Steel doesn't really know much about that.
He does know that this advancement is due to these human abilities. Right Soul abilities can make work like a breeze. A single person can build a house without much effort in weeks.
Not to mention, there is elven tech that also is just out of this world. So it is kind of believable to see an advance city be build in two decades. Even though the King of this place doesn't care much. There are polices that he had to sign with the government to keep this place for himself. World isn't so simple that a person can just conquer a land and make a kingdom on it.
Steel doesn't even care about the politics and all that. But seeing an individual who is basically son of the king would make anyone question what is even happening.
This Person is also very troublesome cause of his past achievements.
War thought for few seconds and then replies.
"I heard the call of War. So I was here to answer it. But that isn't the only reason today. I also wanted to train with my new soul weapon that is also one of the reasons…"
War pauses for a second and then continues.
"Other reason is a bit complicated. I am not really supposed to say it out loud. Otherwise, a certain woman would be really mad at me. All I can say is that there is a demon weapon like that I want to fight in the future. So you can call, me bring here, some sort of practice."
Steel just stare at him with an unreadable face. He knew what he was talking. This man wants to fight that Demonoid blade.
'So he knows…'
He had thought that he was the only one, who is alive, to know the identity of that blade creature. But, of course, there are ways for humans to deliver information. Perhaps the woman he met with that strange ability, Shining Reach, could be behind it.
The question is…how much these humans knows about the blade.
Steel is sure that they knows that it is a demonoid. But Do they know more about it than him or less.
He doesn't really gains anything by knowing more information about the blade. but he also doesn't really gains anything from having less information about the blade.
He really is so outside of this whole convoluted scheme of these humans. So Steel doesn't pry any further.
While Steel is thinking. War asks.
"you look like someone who also have encountered Devil spawns. Maybe you've killed one or two all by yourself too. It is nice to meet you and my apologies for not notices your scars sooner."
His hunting tries, of his past, really had done a number on him. All these wounds doesn't hurt much anymore. He covered them well with bandage.
But he still have a lot of these scars on his body that are visible. However, even with that nobody has even able to notice any of them. As noticing anything about Steel is difficult.
But this man is able to see through his ability to a certain degree. Is it cause of War's ability or something.
Steel answers. Without letting any of his nervousness be show on this face.
"yeah, I have encountered a few…."
War replies back.
"That is great…well, have this for your troubles. Catch."
War throws something at him to catch. It kind of caught Steel off guard. Making him almost miss the catch and drop the thing.
He looks at the thing and it is a dagger. No, it is a little longer than a dagger.
'wait. It is the Soul weapon, a short sword.'
Steel looks at War in confusion.
"You can have him. I don't use short weapons or anything like that. You also helped me with that big snake lizard you know. Keep it as a participation award."
And so after saying that. He ends with "Bye, see you later." Then he leaves.
Steel just stared at the soul weapon in hand. He wanted to say something to that man.
'Hmm… I wanted that spear, instead.'
