Chapter 7 - 7

Seated at the entrance to the two-storey house, I looked thoughtfully at the green lawn. Beautiful lawn, I thought, actually looking at the lawn, trying not to listen to the natural moans coming from the house. An awkward situation had come up, and it was disrupting my plans for the it had already slipped my mind.

And it was all starting out so well! Got Ryan's schedule from Madeline, timed it so Rebecca would be alone. Still, only a complete moron would show up at their door out of the blue. The kid wouldn't understand much, but he'd be able to pick up on the negativity that would definitely come from his mother. So it is better to agree everything in advance, without the presence of the child, so that after there were no awkward moments.

Well, who would have thought that a single woman who has been without intimacy for eight years, at this moment will be engaged in self-satisfaction? I didn't.

So it came as a complete surprise to me when I saw this sight through the walls. And appeared before me seductively wriggling on the bed a woman that not that has not lost in beauty, but even became more sexy. It may have been the excitement in me, but I could understand the Homelander to some extent. Not in terms of forcing intimacy, but still.

Turning away, I decided to leave the woman alone without peeking at her. If I were her, it would be at least embarrassing to be peeked at like that. So I flew smoothly and leisurely in the direction of the next house the boy was studying at. It takes about ten minutes by car, which Rebecca had available. For me, on the other hand, the journey lasted only four minutes.

Sitting down on the grass, I watched with interest the lessons of Ryan, the son of this body. The boy was handsome, having received the best of everything from his parents. Or were all children beautiful at this age? It was a difficult question that he didn't want to think about. But the boy's upbringing was good, but he was even too obedient. Although I'm picking on him, he had a good teacher, too. Or rather, the teacher. and judging by his behaviour, she was trying to get Ryan to bond with her.

- That's corny. I rolled my eyes at the way Wout was going about it.

It was clear that in a couple of years they were going to get rid of Rebecca and replace her with a teacher who looked like her. Eventually, Ryan would be under the control of a dedicated Wout employee, and that's when they'd start teaching him all the hero stuff.

- It's all ingeniously simple. - A disgruntled sigh.

I don't think Rebecca even realises that she's about to be disposed of. No, she's not stupid, she just trusted the wrong people. People shouldn't be trusted at all, especially when they represent the interests of a multi-billion dollar corporation.

The knock on the door came out of the blue for Becky, as she had just gotten out of the shower a couple of minutes ago. The woman hadn't even had a chance to dry her hair yet, but still made her way down the stairs. Of course, it was unclear as to the reason for her being disturbed. After all, before, the staff had always called first before disturbing her.

But she didn't bother, as it could be something urgent. The door opened and she froze for a second, frowning and not recognising the man in front of her as one of Wout's employees. At least, she didn't see any blondes with glasses among them, and even less without special uniforms.

- Hello. - The woman said, eyeing him suspiciously, but not recognising him.

- Hello, Rebecca. Long time no see. - The blond smiled and the woman took a couple of steps back, looking at the guest in shock.

Now she recognised the most famous superhero in America, albeit by voice. What she had feared so much and seen in her worst nightmares had happened in reality. And if he's here, he knows about Ryan. Becca didn't know what to do, even though it was clear that no one could tell the Homelander what to do when it came to him.

Apparently taking her actions as an invitation, the blond man walked quietly into the house, looking around with interest. He hummed softly, most likely having spotted the hidden cameras with his x-ray vision, and shifted his gaze to her.

- What are you doing here? - It was all she could squeeze out of herself at that moment.

- What do you think? - The man smiled, taking off his glasses. - I thought I'd check on the son I'd only recently found out about.

- He's not your son. - Becca said with more concern.

- Really? Maybe we should do a DNA paternity test, then. - Homelander hummed, walking into the living room. - It was a rhetorical question.

- I've already figured it out. - Becca replied, staring hatefully at his back.

Sighing and trying to get her thoughts in order, the woman still closed the door that was left open. It wasn't clear if Vaught knew about this, or what they would do in the end. But she didn't have much hope for them in this situation. So after standing at the exit for a couple of seconds, she walked behind it.

There was no point in running away, especially when your pursuer was flying at the speed of a military fighter. So when she saw the man sitting quietly on the couch, she just sat down on the other side of him, waiting for his words.

- It's nice. - The man decided to break the silence.

- I'm not giving him up. - Becca said to set the record straight.

- I didn't say I was going to take him," the Homelander sighed, looking her straight in the eye. - I have no right to take him away from you, for I am nothing to him.

- But then... - The blond frowned, silencing her with a single glance.

- He is my son, however, and I have the right to see him at least once a day, to get to know him better. And you will facilitate that. Is that clear?

- He is a simple boy. - Becca said in a trembling voice, instead of answering his question.

- You and I both know that's not true," the man sighed, rolling his eyes. - And you're a very bad liar. So, what's it gonna be?

- Okay. - The woman squeezed herself out.

- Good. - He slapped his knees and got up from the couch. But suddenly he stopped and looked at her.

- And by the way, you smell really good. Is it something floral?

- You disgust me. - The woman frowned, shuddering at the nasty feeling because of his words.

- I'll see you around. - Homelander shrugged and put his glasses back on and walked towards the exit of the house. Rebecca should have been given time to digest what was happening, and he was happy to give it.

It wasn't until a couple of hours later that she was able to come to her senses, just in time to pick Ryan up from his tutor. Taking a deep breath in and out, the woman opened the doors of the house and stepped outside, frozen in place.

- Hello again, Rebecca. - The blond man smiled, putting the phone away.

- Have you been here all this time? - She asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

- Yes, because I need to meet my son. - The man replied calmly, taking a couple of steps closer to her.

- This is not a good time, Homelander. - Becca sighed.

- John," asked America's most famous blond. - I'm only a Homelander when I'm wearing a cape.

- I see. John," the woman said with annoyance. - Please, not now.

- Rebecca, do you really think my time is rubber? - John replied condescendingly. - Today I'm almost completely free, but tomorrow I'm not.

- All right, get in the car. - Barely holding back a heavy sigh, Becca headed for the jeep and got behind the wheel.

John didn't resist her and got into the passenger seat.

- It's funny, I haven't been in a car in over ten years," John grinned, looking around. - It's so cramped in here.

- I don't want to talk to you," Becca said firmly, clutching the steering wheel with her fingers. - Don't act like we're friends.

- We have to be, Rebecca. If we're gonna get along and not start fighting over nothing in front of the baby.

- You raped me. We can't be friends. - Becca muttered, staring tensely ahead.

- 'Awww,' John grinned, causing her to turn her head sharply in his direction, out of sheer indignation. - 'It was a deal, kind of like the ones you made with various companies when you were a director. So we had it mutual.

- Is that how you saw it? - The woman looked at him angrily.

- Rebecca, I'm going to be honest with you," John replied, looking at her seriously. - I didn't take you by force, you gave yourself to me. You had a choice, either your job or your husband. And we both know what you chose.

- Don't talk like you know me. - Becca said through gritted teeth.

- And don't pretend you're an angel in the flesh. Not only did you choose the company then, but you chose the company after," the blond chuckled, leaning back in his seat. - When you left your husband and became a missing person. And where are you now?

- That's different. - Becca muttered, realising she'd lost the argument.

- Of course it is. - John said sarcastically, a smile on his lips.

Without answering him, Becca started the car and began to drive to her son's house. Trying not to look at the unwanted travelling companion, she sank into her thoughts. And to her regret, she came to the conclusion that the whole situation was equally as much her fault as the blond bastard, if not more.

Leaving her husband in ignorance of her condition, cheating on him and having a child with another. Too much depended on Becky's own choices, from cheating, to running away from her own husband, to her own personal prison. And the realisation that it had all been chewed over by the Homeylander himself... only made it worse.

She hadn't even noticed that she'd already reached the right address. As she parked, Rebecca looked up to see her tutor's son running out of the house and quickly jumping into the back seat.

- Hello. - The child said a polite hello to the strange man and looked at his mother with a questioning look.

- Honey... he's your father. - She introduced her son to the stranger, without much enthusiasm.

- Well, hello, Ryan. You don't know how glad I am to meet you," smiled the blue-eyed blond man with glasses. - My name is John.

The man's smile only grew wider as the child's eyes lit up red. And Rebecca only pressed her lips together and immediately tried to smile so as not to displease the superhero.
