She kept her eyes closed, not quite ready to face whatever this morning would bring. Not quite ready to confront the reality of having spent the night in Aurex's bed, wrapped in his arms, after everything that had happened.


A warmth bloomed in her chest— from his touch, from somewhere deeper inside her. A gentle, spreading heat that radiated outward from her core, filling her limbs with a sweetness that made her toes curl.


It was like being filled with liquid sunlight from the inside out, washing away the remnants of exhaustion and fear and replacing them with something soft and golden and utterly consuming.


Her eyes stayed shut of their own accord, a quiet sigh escaping her lips as the warmth pulsed gently, rhythmically, like a heartbeat that wasn't her own.
