Chapter 10 - Trap

AIDEN'S POV

"Aunt?"

"Hello Aiden." She said with a huge smile. "It's been ages." Giving me a huge, she pinched my ears. When would she learn to stop doing this?

My aunt, Rosa Armstrong is a bad ass, not just a mafia princess but also a skilled mercenary and hunter... human hunter if you know what I mean.

"You didn't tell me you were coming to New York, I would have—"

"Tell you, and miss this fun experience? No way."

"I agree." I said with a smile. Honestly, this little brawl was exactly what I needed. "Let's get you home, Aunt Rosa. You will be staying at mines, right?"

"Yeah, a day or two, then I'll be heading to New Mexico for some business. Finding you at a hospital was a bit of a surprise, you seem fine. Are you hurt?"

"No, I'm fine. My wife's the one hurt... she was attacked." My aunt stared at me, open mouthed.

"Wife? When...how. Silly kid, you have been keeping secrets."

"Was there ever a time I wasn't?"

"True talk. We'll talk about the marriage stuff later. What happened?" Aunt Rosa asked with obvious concern.

"We'll talk when we get home." Then I opened the car door for her.

"What do you mean WE'LL TALK WHEN WE GET HOME? We talk now, then go back in there to see my new niece." Women, so dramatic.

"You can't see her right now, later."

"Is it that bad?" She hadn't even met Avery yet and she was this concerned? But to many she's a heartless Boss. When it comes to family, she's soft.

"She'll be fine. The Martins tried and failed."

"The Martins? They had a hand in this?" She asked in a low voice, a whisper as if trying to avoid the words from getting into someone else's ears.

We got home and I poured her a glass of red wine. "So, tell me, what's going on?"

"The Martins attacked in the dead of the night, it was unexpected. Honestly, her getting hurt was entirely my fault."

"What do you mean, Aiden?" My aunt asked, confused. How do I explain to her that I was drugged by a woman and couldn't protect my wife when there was a need to protect her? A call came in, it was Stephan.

"Boss, we got to the location, took some hostages."

"And?"

"One supplied a location, I've looked into it, it seems legit."

"What location?"

"A hideout for Martini, The Martin's Boss." It's about time! finally this silly game would be over, I'll get revenge on the Martins and move on to the next target. Twenty years of plotting, planning, being eaten up by the fire of revenge brewing inside but unable to do naught. It'll be over soon.

"Wait for me, send me the location, I'll be on my way." I ended the call and was on my feet in seconds.

"I'm coming with you." My aunt said, right behind me.

"What? No, you just got here."

"It doesn't matter, I can't sit around when there's some action going on."

"Fine." There was no need trying to talk her out of this.

"I have a suggestion..." She filled me in on it and we were off.

We got there, searched and no one was around, no one was here. The air here was strange. It was just as Aunt Rosa had predicted.

"It's a trap! Fall back, all of you." It was too late, bullets flew, my men fell. We took cover firing back at people we couldn't really see, the fog increased, they'd started a fire. Everything was just as Aunt Rosa had predicted. They'd led us right into a trap. Avery...was she safe?

AVERY'S POV

"NO!" I screamed as I awakened from a bad dream. No one was here. Aiden... When the hell was he? My guts tell me something is wrong and I fear it might be right. Picking up my phone, I called for Simon. He got inside immediately. "Yes ma'am?"

"Where's my husband, Is he alright?"

"Yes ma'am..." He stared at me weirdly, something was wrong, something is definitely wrong.

When I stared out the window, there were more men outside. "What's going on Simon? Why are there more men out there?"

"It's nothing Mrs. Armstrong, we're just doing what's best for your safety." He said, already turning to walk away.

"What happened? What aren't you telling me? Was there another attack?"

I looked at him with an intensity, one that says I wasn't going to tolerate. I wanted the truth.

"I'll ask you one last time, was there another attack and is my husband okay?"

Just then a Nurse walked in and chased him out of the room, "What did you do that's getting her all worked up?"

What if there was an attack on the house again? What if all the security was here not just for me but for Aiden and Sydney too? My mind ran in different directions. Aiden isn't exactly an ideal husband but I know he'll protect me from anything. I just hope he can protect himself too. I wish I could protect him too.

"Dear lord, please protect him." I whispered breathlessly.

"Sorry, I didn't get you, is there something you need?" The nurse asked, thinking I had said something to her.

"No, I'm fine."

"Alright, it's time to take your medicine. Please do well to rest and avoid getting worked up. We don't want the headaches getting worse again."

"Alright. I will."

The next time I woke up, I was being wheeled away from the room. "Where are you taking me?" I drawled still drowsy, my words were slurred.

What's going on? I am pretty certain I don't need to be in the emergency room. Then why?

"Don't you worry, you will be okay."

"What's... what's wrong with me? I can't seem to keep my eyes open." I heard weird voices, sounds but I couldn't quite make them out. I was drifting off, something wasn't right. Aiden, where are you?
