Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

The screen was filled with surprises.

The video continued to play.

[Classic Scene 9: I Am Iron Man!]

[Last night, the debate between Tony and Obama drew massive attention.][To maximize the impact on public opinion,][At the request of S.H.I.E.L.D., the military, the government, and other parties,][Tony held another press conference the next morning.]

Tony walked onto the stage, facing dozens of reporters, taking the cue card handed to him by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

He was prepared to follow the official line: last night's chaos had been caused by a rogue circular robot, luckily his bodyguard was present.

[Tony: "Some people speculated that I was involved in the accidents on the highway and the rooftops…"]

Just as Tony was about to continue along the script,

Reporter Christine interrupted.

Her words were sharp as ever.

Christine: "Excuse me, Mr. Stark, do you really expect us to believe that it was the bodyguard? He was in armor, looking perfectly capable. Honestly, usually…"

Seeing Christine's aggressive expression again, Tony quickly cut her off.

Tony: "I understand. Questioning the official statement is fine, but you shouldn't jump to conclusions. You called me a superhero for no reason."

Christine: "I never said you were a superhero."

Tony realized his mistake, paused, and then continued.

Tony: "Isn't that right? Great—because if it were true, that would be utterly absurd. Ridiculous. I'm not cut out to be a hero. Clearly, I have too many flaws, make too many mistakes, and negatively affect those around me."

Seeing the situation getting tense, Colonel Rhodes whispered in Tony's ear:

Rhodes: "Tony, just stick to the script."

Tony nodded and picked up the cheat sheet he had prepared.

Tony: "Actually…"

He paused, glanced at the cue card, then looked up with unwavering determination.

Tony: "I am Iron Man!"

The reporters were stunned.

Back at Stark Tower, Tony sipped his carefully mixed cocktail, relieved.

Only he truly understood what those words meant to the world.

"I am Iron Man" was a declaration of responsibility and commitment.

After everything he had experienced—escaping the cave, losing friends, and betrayal by Daisuke—Tony had matured greatly.

Had he not gone through these trials, saying "I am Iron Man" would have been reckless, a boast to show off his power, a cry for applause to satisfy his vanity.

But Tony had changed. When he uttered those words now, it was a vow: to fight evil and protect the innocent.

"Iron Man."

Three words that symbolized honor.

And responsibility.

Pepper seemed to understand Tony's true thoughts.

Pepper: "Boss, looks like we can finally open the champagne."

She picked up the champagne Tony had awkwardly left in a corner, skillfully poured two glasses, and handed one to him.

Pepper: "Cheers."Tony: "Cheers."Pepper: "To responsibility."Tony: "To responsibility."

Asgard.

King Odin clearly understood the weight of Tony's words.

He nodded thoughtfully.

Tony Stark… you fully deserve the title of 'superhero.'Truly a man cursed with knowledge.I hope that when Ragnarok comes, you will help Thor and Loki rebuild a home for the gods on Earth.

Behind the military camp.

Captain America and Howard Stark saluted the screen.

Clearly, everything Tony had done had earned their respect.

Captain America raised a question.

Cap: "By the way… I forgot to ask, sir—how do you plan to handle this?"

Unexpectedly, Howard Stark did not show excessive emotion.

He simply said:

"We're still in the middle of a world war. Every resource counts. Daisuke can help me with weapons production. Although he might be a threat to my son in the future, he's useful for now. Besides, I won't die for many years. When I do, I'll leave a file on the company computers, personally advising Tony to watch out for Obama. If not, I'll handle him myself."

His words carried a sense of detached pragmatism.

Captain America nodded. Interfering in others' plans was unwise. Better to step back.

The video had shown that Howard could live to seventy.

If Daisuke really posed a threat to Tony, it would have been better to help Tony then.

But…

Captain America rubbed his eyes. He had been staring at the screen for a long time, and pressure was mounting.

When Howard mentioned the words "car accident," Cap's vision darkened.

He felt disoriented, as if he had seen his friend Bucky at the scene.

Although it lasted less than two seconds, he had indeed seen him.

But after thinking carefully—how could Bucky appear at Howard's accident scene? At least forty or fifty years later, his appearance shouldn't have been the same.

It must have been because he had stared at the screen too long.

Hmm… yes, that must be it.

Captain America didn't dwell on it.

He continued watching the screen.
