Chapter 4 - Chapter 004: A Changing Climate

After explaining the key points of the job, Konan left the Tetsu no Kuni and returned to Amegakure.

The 'Anti-Hanzo' struggle within the village was in full swing, not allowing her to stay away for too long.

She did not need to worry about the supermarket's affairs.

The employees would work diligently, checking for and addressing any deficiencies.

These employees were all commoners and external members of Akatsuki, without exception.

The Shinobi War had devastated the lands.

Commoners were vulnerable, cruelly killed by Shinobi in unseen corners.

However, in a stable and peaceful country like the Tetsu no Kuni, the identity of a commoner served as a shield.

Law and order ensured that Shinobi and samurai would not arbitrarily kill law-abiding commoners.

Therefore, Megumai, despite being a Shinobi, lived under an assumed name, disguised as a commoner, to avoid unnecessary conflicts and create a stable environment for her son's growth.

The store manager position was light on tasks and high on salary.

Megumai was quite pleased to unexpectedly receive this job.

She only occasionally needed to verify a password during work.

The rest of the time was freely available, making it perfect for taking care of her child!

The diverse array of goods in the supermarket served as excellent material for teaching her son to speak.

Drinking water, biscuits, candies, scissors, pliers, alcohol, bandages...

Megumai was tireless and patient.

Seiya, however, was not very interested in learning to speak. After babbling for a while, he would turn his attention to playing.

Megumai, feeling helpless, did not force him but quietly watched her son playing with his toys, guarding against accidents.

Seeing this heartwarming scene, the busy employees also felt a sense of joy.

No one felt that Megumai's low-labor, high-salary position was unfair.

They had joined Akatsuki because they harbored the ideal of achieving peace and happiness in the Shinobi world.

They wholeheartedly approved of Konan's intention to favor this single mother with no one to rely on.

Megumai did not take the goodwill of the staff for granted.

She actively applied advanced concepts learned in her previous life, diligently managing the supermarket.

Time flew by, and the monthly revenue visibly increased.

The "Peace" supermarket continuously provided for the Akatsuki organization far away in Amegakure.

...

Days passed, but the natural scenery remained unchanged.

The Tetsu no Kuni is perpetually cold, with extreme weather.

The mountains are still the same, with the snow unmelted.

The trees are still the same, their foliage undiminished.

Seiya 's ever-increasing height served as a constant reminder to Megumai that time was rapidly passing.

The little one is now one and a half years old, his height already past Megumai's knees, steadily moving towards her waist.

His looks perfectly inherited Megumai's best features, already showing a foundation of handsomeness.

Sometime ago, under Megumai's persistent guidance, Seiya finally learned to speak, uttering the correct syllables and clearly calling out "Mama."

Megumai was ecstatic.

She remembered when Seiya was first born.

The moment she first saw her crying son, her heart inexplicably stirred, and tears silently flowed.

In that instant, her life, which had drifted like duckweed, suddenly grew thick roots and received infinite nourishment.

Upon hearing that "Mama," she felt as if she were floating on clouds, overwhelmingly happy.

She thought that even if her son were to ask for her heart in the future, she would not hesitate to carve it out for him!

The young Seiya, innocent and naive, had no idea his mother harbored such extreme thoughts.

He was carefree every day, with nothing to do but play, occasionally learning to speak and recognize new things with his mother.

He eats three meals a day, mainly breast milk, supplemented with soft foods like congee.

His mealtimes have gradually become regular, mostly coinciding with Megumai's mealtimes.

Before every meal, Megumai feeds Seiya first. It's convenient at home and not troublesome at the supermarket.

She has a private, separate office where she can breastfeed.

Feeding time is one of Seiya 's happiest and most well-behaved moments of the day.

No matter how vigorously he's playing, the moment he's in his mother's arms, he instantly calms down, focused on absorbing the nutrition.

Megumai is equally filled with happiness.

The serious look on her son's face while feeding, his bright eyes, his small hands clenching and unclenching...

Just seeing these, even if her son's tiny milk teeth sometimes caused a little pain, Megumai was content.

When Seiya turned two, he left the stage of wobbly steps and could run surprisingly fast.

During this period, Megumai put more energy than ever into supervising him.

Otherwise, if she wasn't careful, the little one could slip away to who knows where.

At this time, the Third Great Shinobi War had concluded, and the Shinobi world was rebuilding its order.

Countless heroes perished in the war, and countless new prodigies rose to prominence.

Konoha had demonstrated the formidable strength of a veteran Shinobi village during the war.

Fighting against multiple enemies, it was still widely acknowledged as the strongest Shinobi village!

The conflicts between the major nations and villages gradually subsided, and peace treaties were signed.

The smoke of war cleared, and a period of recovery began.

However, the once-stable Tetsu no Kuni became increasingly turbulent, with many new faces appearing.

The major Shinobi villages employed various tactics, clashing indirectly here.

The Tetsu no Kuni had become a new, invisible battlefield with no smoke of gunpowder.

Information precedes action.

The shifting dynamics in the Tetsu no Kuni caused the information trade at the "Peace" supermarket to flourish even more. Konan's initial side-move had earned Akatsuki a fortune.

Customers came and went incessantly, including both commoners and Shinobi.

Between the supermarket shelves, Seiya walked back and forth proudly and vigorously patrolling.

The little one was less than a meter tall, yet his aura was imposing, as if a feudal lord were reviewing his troops.

Kidnappings are not uncommon in the Shinobi world.

A young boy like Seiya, who is adorable, lively, and has not yet developed lasting memories, is a hot commodity in the eyes of human traffickers.

The supermarket has a high volume of customers, and people from all walks of life pass through.

Megumai dared not let down her guard for a moment, constantly following closely behind her son, never letting him leave her sight.

Lately, the Tetsu no Kuni has become somewhat unstable.

Therefore, Megumai applied light makeup, intentionally making herself look less striking.

Her beauty was reduced, making her only a moderately attractive woman.

Otherwise, being too dazzling would attract covetous eyes, some of whom might be tempted to take risks.

Beauty without the strength to protect it often leads to tragedy.

Megumai had enough strength but did not want unnecessary trouble.

Seiya was only two years old, and Megumai hoped to maintain the peaceful and stable status quo, giving her son a wonderful childhood.

However, things rarely go as planned.

One afternoon, the sky cleared, and the snowfall stopped.

Megumai moved a chair to the shelter beneath the supermarket's eaves to bask in the sun.

Seiya nestled in her arms, engrossed in a children's picture book.

Although the text was unfamiliar, it was filled with pictures of cute little animals, which Seiya found very interesting.

"Squirrel, Squi-rrel, Baby, this is a squirrel."

Megumai bent down and whispered the name of the small animal in the book into her son's ear.

"Squi-"

Seiya focused his small mind, trying hard to imitate his mother's pronunciation. Suddenly, he felt a difference.

His mother's soft body seemed to tense up!

This was a strange phenomenon.

Seiya looked at his mother in confusion, then followed her gaze toward the street ahead.

A woman was walking towards them.
