Chapter 43 - THE DEMON KING WHO WAITED FOR HER

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

The water realm did not wait for permission.

The moment the possessed warriors stepped forward, the sacred lake turned violent. Waves rose unnaturally high, crashing against stone platforms as darkness bled from the visitors' shadows.

Their smiles vanished.

Their eyes turned black.

And then—

They attacked.

Blades drawn. Charms ignited. Dark sigils flared beneath their feet.

Linah stepped back instinctively, clutching Ruponeso tightly against her chest. The baby's warmth pressed against her racing heart.

"Mako," she breathed.

But Mako was already moving.

Lyold lunged first, his movements sharper than before, enhanced by corruption. Dark energy wrapped around his arms like armor as he clashed with Mako at the center of the sacred grounds.

Steel met force.

Magic collided with raw strength.

"You waited for this day," Lyold hissed, striking again.

"Yes," Mako replied coldly. "And so did I."

Then Mako roared.

Not like a man.

Like a lion.

The sound ripped across the battlefield, ancient and primal. His eyes flashed gold, veins blazing with the power of his bloodline. The presence of the Demon King — not evil, but sovereign — surged through him.

The ground beneath his feet cracked as he unleashed his full strength.

Lyold staggered backward, shock flashing across his possessed face.

"You forget who I am," Mako growled. "I do not fall twice."

Across the battlefield, chaos erupted. Njuzu warriors clashed with corrupted clan members. Water spiraled into spears.

Dark charms exploded in violent bursts of smoke.

But Tonde was not interested in Mako.

His eyes were locked on Linah.

On the child.

He slipped through the fighting like a snake through tall grass, avoiding Mako's fury, avoiding the Njuzu guardians.

Straight toward her.

Linah felt him before she saw him.

Ruponeso tightened in her arms.

Tonde smiled — slow, unhinged.

"Give me the child," he said softly. "And perhaps I will make it quick."

Before Linah could summon her magic, a figure moved faster than thought.

The mysterious woman — the one once chosen to be Mako's wife — stepped between them.

Her eyes were steady.

Her decision already made.

The poisoned blade meant for Linah pierced flesh.

But not Linah's.

The sword drove deep into the former fiancée's chest.

Time froze.

Tonde's grin faltered.

The woman gasped, blood staining her robes as she collapsed into Linah's arms.

"I was never your enemy," she whispered weakly to Linah.

"Protect him… protect them…"

Her body fell still.

Something inside Linah shattered.

The air around her shifted violently.

"You… used her," Linah whispered, trembling — not with fear, but with rage.

Tonde stepped forward again, madness returning to his smile.

"It does not matter who dies," he said. "As long as the child—"

Linah screamed.

It was not a human scream.

It was grief. Fury. Power unchained.

The water around the sacred lake shot skyward like towering walls. The sky darkened. Lightning cracked across dimensions.

And then—

Ruponeso screamed too.

The sound was not loud.

It was seismic.

A vibration so pure and powerful that the ground split open in jagged lines. Dark charms shattered instantly. Possessed warriors dropped their weapons, clutching their heads as black smoke was ripped violently from their bodies.

The very air rejected corruption.

Tonde stumbled, covering his ears as blood trickled from them.

"What is this?!" he roared.

The scream intensified.

Not destructive.

Cleansing.

Lyold fell to his knees as the darkness inside him convulsed, fighting to remain.

Mako stopped mid-strike, turning toward Linah and his son — awe and fear mixing in his expression.

The sacred gates of the water realm trembled violently.

Cracks of light spread across the sky above.

Everyone stopped fighting.

Everyone tried to steady themselves.

The lake surged outward in a massive shockwave, throwing warriors and enemies alike across the battlefield.

Tonde fell hard against stone, his grin finally gone.

For the first time—

He looked afraid.

Ruponeso's cry slowly faded.

Silence followed.

But it was not peaceful.

It was the silence before something far worse.

Far above them, beyond sight, beyond cloud and realm—

A throne of darkness cracked.

And the evil ruler rose slowly to his feet.

"So," he whispered, fury trembling beneath his voice,

"the child awakens."

Back in the water realm, Linah held her son tightly, tears streaming down her face as she stared at the lifeless body at her feet.

The war had truly begun.

And there would be no turning back.
