Chapter 31 - THE DEMON KING WHO WAITED FOR HER

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

(The Dream That Changed Everything)

Sleep did not come easily to Mako that night.

When it finally claimed him, it was not rest that welcomed him, but a dream so vivid it felt less like imagination and more like remembrance — as though his soul had stepped into a truth long hidden.

He stood between two worlds.

Beneath his feet, the sea murmured ancient songs, its waves glowing faintly with spiritual light. Behind him stretched the human land, vast and quiet, heavy with unseen dangers. The air itself seemed to breathe.

Then they appeared.

His mother.

And Linah's mother.

They stood side by side, their forms calm yet burdened with centuries of truth. Their eyes held no fear — only sorrow, wisdom, and resolve.

They spoke, not with mouths, but directly into his spirit.

They told him of Linah's past life — of betrayal masked as love, of blood spilled not by fate, but by hands corrupted by the Evil Ruler. Linah had never been a victim of chance. She had been hunted.

Her death on her wedding night had been no accident.

It had been a sacrifice.

A calculated attempt to destroy a prophecy before it could breathe.

Mako felt his chest tighten as his mother stepped forward, her voice steady yet aching.

Linah carried ancient power — power bound not only to the spirits of water and earth, but to the ancestral bloodlines long forgotten by the world. More than that, she was destined to bear a child whose existence alone would shatter the Evil Ruler's reign.

That was why Linah had been spared.

That was why she had been reborn.

She was not chosen by chance — she was chosen by destiny.

As the truth settled into him like fire, the dream dissolved.

Mako woke as dawn crept softly across the sky.

He realized then that he had not truly slept the entire night. Only exhaustion had finally dragged him into rest as morning arrived — and by then, the world had already begun without him.

Usually, Linah woke to the gentle sounds of Mako moving about the house — preparing warm water for her bath, humming softly as he worked, making sure everything was ready before she even opened her eyes. It had become his silent ritual of love.

But that morning was different.

When Linah rose and found Mako still asleep, his face unusually peaceful yet drained, she paused. Something in his expression stirred her heart. He looked like a man who had carried the weight of the world through the night.

She chose not to wake him.

Instead, she smiled softly and prepared breakfast herself, moving slowly, carefully, as if even the air should not disturb him.

When Mako finally woke, the house was quiet.

He stepped outside and saw Linah seated at the table, finishing her meal.

Guilt struck him instantly.

He crossed the space between them and knelt beside her chair, taking her hands gently into his.

"I'm sorry, my love," he said, his voice low and sincere. "I promised myself I would always be the first thing you felt in the morning. I failed you today."

Linah looked down at him, surprised by the depth in his eyes.

She smiled — not amused, but touched.

"You didn't fail me," she said softly. "Seeing you sleep without worries was enough. It reminded me that even kings need rest."

Her words settled into his heart, heavier than any rebuke.

He pressed a tender kiss to her fingers, holding them just a moment longer than necessary — as if anchoring himself to her presence.

Then his phone rang.

The moment he heard Aunt Rose's trembling voice, Mako knew.

Linah's mother had been bitten by a snake.

As he listened, his jaw tightened, his instincts sharpening. This was no coincidence. It was a lure — carefully crafted to draw Linah away from the sea, away from her protection, and into vulnerable territory.

The Evil Ruler was growing impatient.

Mako ended the call calmly, his face revealing nothing.

He turned to Linah, who was humming softly as she washed the dishes, unaware of the danger circling her life once more.

In that moment, Mako made a decision.

Linah would not know — not yet.

He would not burden her heart with fear or stress while she carried a destiny even she did not fully understand.

Instead, he moved silently, efficiently, arranging immediate treatment for his mother-in-law, calling in specialists, protectors, and spiritual safeguards without alerting Linah.

This battle, he knew, was no longer only about love.

It was about protection.

About sacrifice.

About standing unshaken between darkness and the woman destined to end it.
