Chapter 5 — Unease Everywhere, and Kisaki Eri's Overwhelming Sense of Superiority

No one knew what the diary was made of, but when Toyama Kazuha held it, the thing felt unbelievably light—almost weightless, as if it had no mass at all.

Yet the moment she let go of it,

the diary hit the ground with a thunderous BAM!—

as though it weighed several tons.

Kazuha stared in disbelief, then took a deep breath, bracing herself. She gathered all her strength and hurled the diary as far as she could.

BOOM!

The diary shot through the air like a cannonball, breaking the sound barrier in an instant. A ring-shaped shockwave formed in its wake.

A moment later—

DOOOOM!

An explosion erupted in the distance.

A small mountain in the training grounds ahead looked as if it had been struck by heavy artillery.

Kazuha gasped. Before she could even react, she whispered one word:

"Come."

In an instant, the diary reappeared in her palm—perfectly intact, not a scratch on it.

She stared at the rising dust cloud in the distance and muttered quietly,

"Sugoi…"

"So this thing can even be used as a weapon? It can't be destroyed, and its impact… is on par with a cannon shell!"

She gazed at the diary, equal parts awe and bewilderment filling her expression.

"It's amazing… I have no idea what this thing even is."

— — —

What Kazuha didn't know was that the diary naturally weighed exactly one kilogram. But in the hands of any woman who received it, the weight dropped to one-thousandth of that.

If someone could throw a one-kilogram object at twenty meters per second,

then applying the same force to a 0.1-gram object would increase the speed a hundredfold.

That was why, when Kazuha threw it with all her strength,

the diary accelerated to six times the speed of sound.

Upon impact, it carried the destructive power of a one-kilogram mass traveling at Mach 6—equivalent to a four- to five-kilogram artillery shell.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Shadows, Tsunade was channeling chakra into her palms, forming razor-thin chakra scalpels.

She dragged them across the surface of her diary again and again—

But not even a faint scratch appeared.

"Incredible… this thing really can't be destroyed," she murmured.

Her gaze sharpened, her tone turning cautious.

"For a diary this extraordinary to suddenly fall into my hands…

then every word inside it must be true."

Tsunade's expression grew cold—an icy, hawk-like sharpness forming in her eyes.

"The final lines… what did he mean by that?

Is he implying that Nawaki's death… wasn't an accident?"

Her grip tightened. Her chakra flared.

"Fine. Whoever caused my little brother's death…

I'll find the truth. And I will make them pay."

She swung open the door with decisive force.

"Shizune! Get ready—we're going to the Land of the Rising Sun!"

Shizune, who had been sorting medical tools, nearly dropped them in shock.

"T-Tsunade-sama! The Land of the Rising Sun is under Kumogakure's jurisdiction. We can't simply barge in!"

"It doesn't matter," Tsunade replied firmly. "We'll go quietly. No one needs to know. I have a reason to go—and I will go."

Seeing the absolute determination in Tsunade's eyes, Shizune sighed and nodded.

"…Understood."

Elsewhere, Nezuko tugged desperately on Tanjirō's sleeve, her eyes wide and urgent.

With muffled sounds, she tried to speak:

"Ko… Ko… Ko no Kuni… go… go!"

Tanjirō blinked in confusion.

"Nezuko, you want to go to the Land of Ko? But… why?"

Nezuko couldn't explain. She shook Tanjirō's arm harder, uttering more broken sounds:

"Go… go! To… there!"

Tanjirō paused, then smiled gently.

"All right. If that's what you want… we'll go."

He picked up the wooden box, gently helping Nezuko climb inside before securing it onto his back.

Then he stepped out of their home—

and began the long journey toward the Land of Ko.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Light, inside Tokiwadai Academy, Misaka Mikoto sat at her desk with her portable computer open.

Her fingers danced across the keyboard at high speed.

But after minutes of searching, she let out a disappointed sigh and closed the laptop.

"No records anywhere… not a single trace of someone named Hayashi Rin. Looks like I'll have to go directly to the Land of Ko."

From behind her, Shirai Kuroko suddenly teleported in and wrapped her arms around Mikoto.

"Onee-sama~ what are you thinking about so deeply?"

Misaka tapped the desk lightly, staring at the empty surface.

"Kuroko… do you see anything here?"

Kuroko blinked.

"I don't see anything. The desk is spotless. Why? Did Onee-sama think it was dirty?"

Mikoto froze.

So Kuroko couldn't see the diary at all.

She trusted Kuroko more than anyone.

She almost opened her mouth to explain everything—

But in that instant, she felt a terrifying force—an invisible pressure shutting her mouth before she could speak.

Her instincts screamed.

If she said even a single word about the diary…

that power would annihilate her on the spot.

Cold sweat dripped down her forehead. She swallowed hard and forced a calm smile.

"No, it's nothing. I just thought I should clean the desk."

She turned toward Kuroko instead.

"Anyway, could you help me request leave from school? I have something important to do—might take a week or two."

Kuroko straightened herself immediately, eyes sparkling.

"Yes, Onee-sama! And if it's dangerous, please let Kuroko accompany you!"

Meanwhile, in a refined café in Tokyo, Kisaki Eri and Kudō Yukiko sat across from each other.

A cup of steaming coffee rested between them.

On Eri's face was a poised, dignified smile—one filled with serene confidence and unmistakable satisfaction.

She was clearly in an excellent mood.

When she placed her diary on the table, Yukiko's expression remained completely neutral—perfectly unbothered, as if she couldn't see anything at all.

Eri raised an eyebrow and tapped the diary lightly.

"Yukiko, do you see something here? A diary on the table?"

Yukiko glanced at the spot and frowned.

"There's nothing there. A diary? Are you okay? You called me here just to talk about something strange like that?"

Eri held back a small laugh and sat up straighter—gazing at Yukiko with a graceful, triumphant expression…

It was the look of a queen who had just won a long, difficult war.

Yukiko felt irritation prickle at the back of her neck.

She knew that expression—

that elegant smile dripping with superiority.

Inside, Yukiko cursed.

What kind of superiority is that supposed to be?

What makes you think you're better than me?

Her eyes swept up and down Eri's face in annoyance.

Beautiful? Sure—but not more beautiful than me.

Figure? No, my body is better.

Elegance and charm? Comparable.

Career? We're both successful. No one is above anyone.

The more Yukiko compared, the more upset she became.

Seriously, where is that smugness coming from?

If anything, shouldn't I be the one superior?

My relationship with Yūsaku is great—we're known as a romantic power couple.

You and Kogorō? Divorced long ago.

And another thing—I have a son. You have a daughter.

By every metric, I should be winning here!

She gritted her teeth silently.

This woman dragged me out here just to show off that smug little smile.

What in the world is she planning?
