Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

"He just entered Birkirkara in Malta, he's heading N128°E. Don't you think you need backup?"

"No thanks, I've got this one covered."

"If you say so, boss."

Lilith gritted her teeth as she set off in her hot chase to catch the most dangerous criminal in Europe, drugs, alcohol, weapons, slave trade, prostitution, organ selling, you name it, there was nothing too underhanded for him to deal in, at least that's what they say, but Lilith didn't become the best FBI agent for no reason, she would finally see if the rumors were true and burn his crew to the ground.

This was it, her goal, her lifelong mission almost accomplished. All those years in a school for defense, learning to kill, no form of socialization, all that sweat and blood made her the best in her field, all those special training that started at dawn and ended at midnight with him being her reason for the stress of it all, yet shadow was always able to slip under her nose. He always found a new way to get her frustrated.

She hit the horn and stepped on the gas, breaking every speed law in Malta just to get to shadow. She knew that she was playing into his hands, walking right into his trap, this was what he wanted. She would just end up running around before he disappears and further add to her surmounting frustrations, but dammit she wanted revenge.

Vengeance and rage was the only thing left that she felt for this man, the fact that he was the driving point to her training and he was the only one who motivated her in her work just made her angry at him, she was proud of him but she really hated it, no matter how much pride she has in him, he was still annoying as hell's cockroach.

He was finally in her line of sight, this was it, she would finally get him, just as this thoughts were finalizing in her brain he swerved off the bridge and into the water. She ran out of her moving car, there was no way he was escaping that easily this time, she started shooting at him from the bridge, hoping that even if she couldn't capture him alive and torture him, she would have the satisfaction of seeing him dead. Her aim was perfect, one bullet was enough but she couldn't stop herself, she kept shooting until her gun was empty. She's never missed a target so when she was sure he was dead she walked away towards a black car that was waiting for her on the other side of the bridge.

She was not satisfied, definitely not, five good years of hunting this guy down and this was the measly way he decided to die, she thought he would give a much grander exit, he was such a fucking cockroach but that didn't matter, she had killed him, annihilated him, wiped his face off the fucking earth but she knew it wasn't over yet. Crimson gang would be after her, there would be a major gang war, many other inferior gatherings as she liked to call them would start to struggle for the top spot once they got the news that the dreaded shadow was now rotting six feet under and she would be prepared, all of them would be going down with him.

She got back to her office in Amsterdam (nevertheless) seven hours later and gave them the news of Shadow's death. She was praised non stop throughout the day, many people congratulated her about her success in her job and how everything was smooth sailing from then on. Seeing the head of the FBI units in Europe was one thing, but working side by side with her was a privilege unit C729 enjoyed and watching her handle a difficult case like that was an overwhelming thing to handle, many of the agents were full of joy that day.

She had a few friends in the unit, one of them was her second in command Betty Jones. Betty walked up to Lilith to give her a hug and congratulate her on getting rid of her worst rival, but she knew better, the boss doesn't do hugs and the fact that Lilith was staring daggers at her when she attempted to open her arms for a hug. Betty understood immediately and dropped down her arms, settling for a friendly handshake instead, while she muttered under her breath, "all these years and I can't even get you to hug me, some friends we are", and then she rolled her eyes at Lilith.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Lilith asked.

"Nothing" Betty replied way too chirpily and left Lilith alone.

Lilith left the office a few hours later, she had business to attend to. Burying Shadow's body was something she intended on doing herself. She had already assigned someone to fish his body out of the water, so she went and picked his body up from the cooler and drove him to a designated area in Amsterdam, a place where he would be buried alone.

She removed him from the body bag and placed him carefully in a casket, this was meant to be it, this final chapter of her life would actually close, the pages of her past and her pain filled memories would be buried with him, little did she know that it was not the end but just the beginning. She was about to close the casket and cover the grave, when the material by his neck slipped, the shirt the attendant gave him was a little bit big on him, she examined his neck, 'how was it so smooth?' She asked herself, where was his tattoo?, she remembered how permanent that shit was and she knew there was no way to get it out even if the skin was cut off because it was pretty much layered.

Realization dawned on her, she banged the casket shut and took the body to the town's cemetery and placed it there, all that was on her mind was how shadow had fooled her again, her hard work in vain, he had switched with a decoy of himself during the chase and escaped. 'Truly a fucking cockroach' she thought, but a voice lingered in her mind, telling her that cockroaches had more than one heart, which left her wondering just how many shadow had for so many people to put their lives in the line just for him to survive. Well, now she knew, shadow was alive and he had fooled her once again.
