Chapter 4 - Chapter Three

Lou's house is huge, her parents are very much the middle upper class type.

I have been there many times before, although I had never gone beyond the living room, kitchen and bedroom (Lou's, which is almost the size of my entire house).

It's eight hundred square meters of pure luxury, from the rose garden in the front and the garden full of statues and a fountain in the backyard.

The facade has mahogany panels, the second floor is surrounded by a balcony covered with a vertical garden.

Lou's parents hired the best architect in the state to plan the house; it was all a mix of typical Victorian-era and Greek theater features.

" Well, you'll stay on the guest room" says Lou pointing to the room right next to hers. "And you, Sam, will stay in the other one" she points to a door at the end of the corridor.

Sammy mumbles something intelligible. She's been unusually quiet the whole time.

Lou's room looks the same as the last time I saw it.

The blinds are open, revealing the gigantic oval pool, already full of leaves from disuse. The small table near the bed is equally cluttered, the closet is crammed with clothes and shoes, the plasma TV is in the same spot facing the bathroom door on the other side, the leather jacket remains on the grayish carpet... It really is a relief to be able to stay with my best friend.

But since life is not a strawberry, tomorrow is (malevolently and coincidentally) Monday, and my recovery was miraculously fast (a drag), therefore, the gates of hell are open again for me.

The icy wind blows my hair, beside me, the precipice opens it's black mouth, like a monster.

The scarlet full moon shines so close I could touch it.

The gloomy atmosphere engulfs everything in its ghostly mist.

I should be scared, but I'm not.

A strange feeling soaks my soul.

A shivering sound of twigs being broken dispels the silence of the night.

A figure with golden eyes stands out in the mist.

Suddenly a shiver runs down my spine, slowly the black figure approaches, and at the same pace, my feet move towards the black hole.

A metallic, guttural laugh echoes in my ears.

I know he's going to get me, but I also know I'm going to get revenge.

I'm already on the edge of the cliff, the magnetic breeze pulls me.

It only takes a millisecond for him to come face to face with me.

His white hair blends with the mist, his face betrays a malicious amusement, his golden eyes suffocate me as if all the air has disappeared. And in a sudden movement, my feet take another step back, and I am swallowed by darkness.

***

The sun's rays shine through the blinds, the smell of waffles perfumes the air.

"Good morning, I thought you had fallen into a coma again!" Lou hums entering the room.

"Hm, where's Sammy?"

I don't know why but I want to see her right now.

"Still sleeping, I don't think she's going today, you better get ready soon if you don't want to be late, I'll give you a ride!"

I quickly jump out of bed, I need to do something to forget my nightmare.

I also really want to talk to Sammy, but I think it's better to give her some time.

I take a quick shower and put on dark blue pants, a gray t-shirt, and a black hoodie, along with a pair of oversized sunglasses. Then I hide my iPod inside my hoodie.

My typical look.

Lou had said her parents thought it was best to get my clothes from home before I was discharged from the hospital so I have something familiar.

I prefer to remain as hidden as possible. The scratch marks from the accident haven't fully healed yet and are visible on my arms, back, and legs, as well as the red, vertical cut that runs from my jaw to my collarbone.

I go downstairs, first stopping by to get a waffle from the counter. It's all silent and tranquil like nobody's home.

I find it strange that Lou's parents haven't been around since I got home from the hospital...

The drive from the Hanks' (Lou's parents') house to school is quick, as Lou drives the black Hyundai as if the asphalt were crumbling behind us.

I'm old enough to drive a car, but my parents said it was dangerous, so even Sammy couldn't get one.

Richard, her boyfriend, is the one that takes her to school everyday.

Lucky for me, Lou doesn't mind giving a loser like me a ride.

I like motorcycles more, they are faster, but I can't have one. My mother says they are more dangerous than cars, yes, my mother is super protective, too protective.

Oh, was. I have to remind myself, she was. She's not here anymore. My chest echoes a dull pain.

We arrive quickly at the parking lot. It's already full because Lou is never on time even if she wakes up early.

A black BMW is parked in the space next to ours, I can barely open my door.

So damn annoying those rich people with no sense of space.

I have to squeeze myself to barely get by trying not to damage any of the cars, I can't pay for either.

On the way to my locker I feel like everyone is looking at me and whispering, which makes my skin crawl.

I had never once caught so much attention before and would like to keep it that way but those glaring scars won't let me I suppose.

I pretend I can't see it while Lou mindlessly chat about mundane things by my side. I mumble a response from time to time.

I just want today to end already.
