Chapter 23 - The Battlefield of Gods and the Trial of Divinity

The battlefield had completely turned into a vision of chaos. Amidst the smoke and the flickering light of fire, Ansh—his body wounded, trapped and surrounded on all sides by monsters—charged toward them in a state of desperation and rage, as if today it would be either him or them. At that very moment, Ansh regained his consciousness. He stood up, and the divine radiance that burst forth from his body spread in all directions with an explosion, instantly obliterating several monsters in a single moment. Seeing Kavi, Ansh could no longer hold back his tears. The friend he believed he would never meet again was standing right there in front of him.

As the God of Metal, Kavi's new powers completely changed the course of the battle. Wherever his gaze fell, the earth itself tore apart as metal spikes erupted from the ground, leaving no trace of monsters behind. His Metal Domain spread across the entire battlefield, reinforcing Tara's weakening fire barrier and forming protective domes to save the remaining survivors. The tide of war had shifted in their favor, and for a brief moment, it felt as if victory was finally within reach.

But just as new wave portals opened, a far more terrifying darkness began to seep out—an abyss unlike anything seen before. Mid-tier evil forces emerged—monsters whose aura matched Kavi's, or perhaps was even greater. Their presence was suffocating and overwhelming. Kavi sensed the change instantly; his recent transformation into a god had sharpened his senses. These were no ordinary monsters. They looked like those indescribable beings he had once seen in Tvashta's memories—existences capable of erasing entire worlds. Their power far surpassed all previous waves, and Kavi knew that their numbers alone would crush his already exhausted team.

Ansh, despite being a low-tier god, was barely managing to stand. Even with his divine water powers, he lacked the strength to finish off these enemies. Exhaustion was clearly etched on his face; his weakened body barely had the strength left to breathe.

On the other end of the battlefield, the condition of the guild leader, Gaurav, was horrifying. His once-powerful body now resembled nothing more than a shadow of itself—both of his arms had been severed in a brutal clash. Blood dripped from his armor as he struggled to remain conscious. Kavi could see all of this from afar, but there was no time to help. Gaurav hovered between life and death, his life force steadily fading. The Elf Queen had fired an arrow toward him, one that could take his life at any moment. Just then, Kavi created a metal domain around Gaurav, Maya, and Rekha, saving them—for the time being.

Kavi clenched his teeth. It was clear his companions were at their breaking point. Half of his focus was on reinforcing the fire barrier protecting the village, and the other half on the brutal battle unfolding before him. He knew the truth—these monsters were unlike any they had faced before. They possessed SSS-rank power or higher, and there were very few left who could stand against them.

The guild's forces were almost completely annihilated. Of the 150 adventurers who had begun the battle, only 30 remained. The rest had fallen victim to the merciless monster waves. And those still alive were barely holding on.

Turning toward the group, Kavi shouted in a voice that cut through the chaos,

"Everyone! Retreat inside the village barrier right now! If you stay here, you'll die!"

The guild members hesitated, unwilling to abandon the battlefield, but Kavi's words shattered their resolve.

"Ansh and I will handle this. We'll buy you time! But leave now—otherwise none of us will survive!"

There was no room for argument in his tone.

Reluctantly, the remaining guild members began to retreat. Siya, whose energy was almost completely depleted, used the last of her strength to open a path through the fire barrier. The barrier trembled as the exhausted survivors rushed inside and collapsed within the village walls. But there was no time to rest—the barrier wouldn't hold for long.

Inside the dome, Ansh stood, leaning on his sword. His divine powers were nearing exhaustion, and Kavi could clearly see that he needed rest. As another monstrous wave charged toward them, Kavi called out firmly,

"Ansh! Go inside. I'll handle this."

With a wave of his hand, Kavi lifted the metal dome surrounding Ansh into the air and shoved it inside the barrier, merging it with Gaurav's dome.

"Rest, brother," Kavi said. "I know your powers are running out. Leave this to me."

But even with this newfound power, Kavi himself began to crack under the pressure. His knowledge of battle was vast, but his experience as a god was still limited. The creatures he faced were ruthless—growing stronger with every passing moment. And despite his efforts, Kavi was slowly being surrounded. He summoned metal spikes with all his might, but their numbers did not decrease. Eighty-one portals stood open, and with every passing second, the number of monsters kept increasing. Kavi did everything he possibly could with all his strength. Fighting while being pushed back, he was forced all the way to the barrier Siya had created to protect the village. The monsters began attacking the barrier as well. It could no longer withstand the assault, and Siya was no longer able to maintain it. Kavi leapt high into the air and hurled all the monsters away. He looked toward Siya and Ansh and smiled—as if bidding them a final farewell—and then an enormous metal barrier enveloped the entire village.

Behind the barrier, Tara watched everything in terror. Her hands trembled, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"We have to do something," she whispered. "We can't let him die like this."

Inside the metal dome, Ansh felt just as helpless. Kavi's aura was fading, his energy nearly gone, while the monsters' assault continued. Ansh clenched his fists.

"Help him! Someone—anyone, please!"

And then, as if answering his plea, a voice echoed from the depths of his soul.

"Ansh…"

The voice was gentle, yet filled with immense power.

"You are not alone."

Ansh's eyes widened. Before him appeared Rudra—a spirit born from the fusion of Earth and Subtlety. At the same time, a voice echoed in Tara's ears as well.

"Tara…"

It was Pragya—her own soul, who had always been with her.

Both Ansh and Tara were drawn into the Godhood Trial Place within their minds—a vast, mysterious realm where time seemed frozen. Before them stood childlike figures—the souls who had been watching over them since the fusion.

"We are souls," Rudra said, "born from the union of Earth and Subtlety. And we consider Shiva to be our god and king. You have been chosen for this moment. To save Kavi, you must pass the Godhood Trial."

Ansh and Tara looked at each other—confusion and fear filling their eyes. There was no time for questions or doubt.

"What do we have to do?" Ansh asked.

Pragya stepped forward, her small form glowing with calm light.

"You must understand the essence of the elements you wield."

Turning to Ansh, she said, "Even though you succeeded in becoming a low-tier god by passing the God Trial, this is still not enough."

"Water. It is not merely a power—it is life. Water flows through everything, from sky to earth and from earth to sea, shaping the world. To master it, you must become one with its cycle."

"And I will help you with this," Rudra said.

Ansh replied, "But there is no time."

Rudra answered, "For those whose allies are time itself, how can time ever be short? Pragya and I have completely stopped time, but we cannot maintain this for long. That is why you must hurry. We must merge with each other."

Before Ansh could say anything, Rudra's and Ansh's auras began to merge into one.

Ansh closed his eyes. Rudra's voice echoed in his mind—water was not just a weapon of war; it was the lifeblood of all beings. He had to understand its deeper meaning, its connection to the world itself.

Meanwhile, Pragya turned to Tara.

"And fire," she said. "In ancient times, fire was called the 'purifier.' It destroys, but it also rebuilds—if controlled with wisdom and purpose. You must embrace its duality—destruction and purification, both. Only then will you awaken its true potential."

Without wasting time, Pragya gestured toward a gate and spoke to Siya. "You are very different, Siya. Even after merging with your god, the origin of your powers still lies within you." She told her to enter the gate and explained that to gain greater power, she would have to merge with Pragya's aura itself.

Back on the battlefield, Kavi was on the verge of collapsing. Just as the monsters were about to deliver the final blow, time froze—and then the sky shattered with a brilliant light. Ansh, having fully embraced the essence of water, broke through the metal dome and stepped outside—his power restored and multiplied many times over. Beside him, Tara's fire blazed with newfound ferocity, her control over its purifying nature now absolute.

Together, they unleashed their combined power. Water and fire—flow and flame—descended upon the battlefield in perfect harmony. Even SSS-rank monsters recoiled in terror as the divine elements tore through them.

Ansh and Tara had passed the Godhood Trial. They were no longer mere successors—they had become god-tier beings, their power now equal to Kavi's. The three gods stood united, ready to face any darkness that lay ahead.

But then, the ground trembled. A crack appeared in the sky, and from it, a figure slowly descended—a woman whose silver-like hair flowed and whose eyes were cold as the void. Her mere presence made the air freeze. The gods felt the weight of her power crashing down on them like an avalanche.

"I am Lilith," she said—her voice like a whisper, yet capable of piercing through chaos."Ruler of the Void."

Her gaze swept over Kavi, Ansh, and Tara, with a faint smile on her lips."Congratulations on passing your trials… but now, you will face something far more terrifying than that."

The ground shook violently as the final portal opened. From the darkness emerged a creature like nothing they had ever seen before—a colossal, twisted figure, wrapped in tendrils of black mist. Unholy light burned in its eyes, and its very presence was bending reality itself.

"This is the Devourer," Lilith said in a calm voice."The true test of your power. Let's see… if you are truly worthy to call yourselves gods."
