She learned that before dawn, as the injured exile slept fitfully beside a low fire and Seris kept watch with her back to the stone. The land was quiet in the brittle way that followed violence—not calm, not resting, but waiting for the next justification.
"They're calling you something," Seris said quietly, eyes still on the dark slope below.
Aurelia did not look up. "Names are cheaper than understanding."
"This one isn't," Seris replied. "It's sticking."
Aurelia lifted her gaze. "What is it?"
Seris hesitated. "They're calling you the Linebearer."
Aurelia felt the bond tighten—not in reaction, but recognition edged with unease.
"That's not a title," Aurelia said. "It's a claim."
"Yes," Seris agreed. "And claims invite challenge."
Lio stirred near the fire. "Who's using it?"
"Everyone," Seris replied. "Enforcers. Councils. Kerrin's people. Even neutrals who don't want to choose a side."
