Warner's POV
There's beautiful, and then there's Arlene sitting across from me in that midnight blue dress.
The fabric catches every flicker of candlelight, making her skin glow like warm honey. The way it hugs her curves without being tasteless drives me insane. Her hair swept up exposes the graceful line of her neck, and I can see the faint marks I left there last night. The diamond necklace she's wearing draws attention away from them, but I know they're mine.
If she had been awake when I left her apartment this morning, I would have burned down everything standing between us. The closer she gets to me, the more I realize that might still happen.
"Tell me about your ink," I say after the waiter disappears without taking our order.
"I created the design myself," she extends her arm across the table, palm down.
