"Why didn't you tell me?" Warner's question hits me like a freight train, sending my mind racing through every embarrassing moment I've ever had. He's seated in the back of the van, and his tone gives nothing away—completely neutral, yet somehow I feel like I've been caught red-handed.
"Hmm?" The sound escapes me as I scramble to figure out what he could possibly know about.
"The cat lady and the tattoo," he clarifies, his voice cutting through my confusion.
"Meow." Nicholson's sleepy giggle breaks the tension, making both Warner and his father chuckle.
