Arlene's POV
Warner has his sister restrained to a chair while he makes his phone call. She's starting to regain consciousness, and the twins are watching everything with wide-eyed fascination. I'm torn between sending them away or starting on dinner preparations. My stomach is growling something fierce. This probably won't be the last time they witness scenes like this. I really need to think about how we're going to handle our future together.
"What the hell are you supposed to be?" she snarls at me, and I let out a tired breath.
The children definitely can't remain here if she's going to use that kind of language.
"Kids, I need you both to go play in your room for a while," I say, getting to my feet. "I'll get dinner started."
"Okay." Rockford grabs Nicholson's hand and starts leading her toward the hallway.
"Tu es très beau," she comments to her aunt as they pass by me. She tosses her hair dramatically. "Just like me."
