Arlene's POV
When Nicholson lashes out at him, the massive man actually smiles like she just gave him the highest praise. I pull both my children closer as this towering stranger stares down at my daughter. She called him the bad man. The way she positions herself in front of us with her small arms spread wide, trying to shield us from him, makes my stomach twist into knots. She has told me about the bad man in her nightmares, the giant who tries to steal her away from me.
"You must be Nicholson," Warner's father says in a measured tone.
He cuts an intimidating figure. Though Warner possesses the same terrifying size, he has never wielded it as a weapon against me. This man clearly has no such reservations. His green eyes burn almost electric compared to Warner's darker shade, yet their facial structure mirrors each other perfectly.
"Go away, bad man," she declares, pressing back against Rockford. He immediately takes her hand the way he always does when she feels threatened.
