"Dr. Meyer," Mao is gripping her wife's shoulder, as Lily sobs, face buried in her day's neck. "What can you tell us?"
Dr. Meyer sighs, nodding solemnly. "I am afraid I have only bad news, alpha. The medications that we have been administering to Day have been killing him without us knowing."
The silence that drops in the room is deadly.
Sharp.
"You have been killing my son, and you tell me that you have been doing so, with a straight face." Mao's eyes flash silver, so sharp and almost white, and Dr. Meyer takes a step back, fearing for his life.
"n-no! No, let me reiterate, please. The medication that Day was administered since the reformative state has been killing him."
It doesn't ease the tension in the room. Lily is now sobbing quietly, perhaps out of guilt or something else.
What Dr. Meyer doesn't say out loud is present in the air.
