Chapter 83 - Chapter 85: Grand Cemetery, Intelligence Countermeasures Begin

"E-Rantel" has three city walls, and about a quarter of the outermost wall, occupying most of the western area, is the city's cemetery.

As a front-line fortress, the Kingdom of Re-Estize and the Baharuth Empire's annual wars always result in a large number of casualties.

Even now, there are various rumors about the birth of the undead, but they have never been confirmed. No one truly knows how the undead are born.

But there is one point that most people agree on: there is a chance for the undead to be born at the deathbed of the deceased.

Among them, those who died unnatural deaths or had no one to mourn them had a greater chance of turning into undead.

Therefore, both the Empire and the Kingdom would make agreements during wars to solemnly mourn the dead, and this massive cemetery was established for that purpose.

Under the dim night sky, a dark figure approached the cemetery with light but quick steps.

The closer he got to the cemetery, the more he could feel the quietness of the air. Even during the day, few people came here, let alone at night.

From a distance, Nolan saw a circle of walls, about four meters high, which formed a boundary separating the cemetery from the outside world.

He looked up slightly.

On the left side of Nolan's nose bridge, a monocle was clipped, which was the magic item he had purchased, possessing the ability of "Night Vision."

So, even under the dim night sky at this moment, Nolan could still clearly see his surroundings.

The high and sturdy walls in the distance were clearly not for protecting the cemetery, but for preventing the undead born within the cemetery from entering the outside world.

As he gradually approached, two watchtowers emitting soft light appeared in the darkness, with a tightly closed, heavy gate in between.

Clearly, the passage into the cemetery was already closed at this time, and there were patrolling guards on the two watchtowers.

Not only guards, but also an adventurer team was stationed there.

This was an arrangement made by the Adventurer's Guild in cooperation with the City Mayor, rotating periodically, specifically to deal with the undead born in the cemetery.

"It seems I need to find another way in." Nolan paused, then walked along the wall, away from the direction of the watchtowers.

Soon, Nolan stopped beneath a wall over four meters high, examining its smooth surface, his expression unchanged.

A wall of this height was no problem for stopping ordinary undead, but for Nolan, it was no obstacle at all.

Bending his legs, he stomped on the ground, and Nolan easily leaped to a height of about three meters.

His palm flipped, and a mithril dagger appeared in his hand. He plunged it into the wall, securing himself.

Immediately after, with a flick of his wrist, his body rose again. When his feet were level with the dagger stuck in the wall, he flicked his toes, and the dagger flew up, returning to his hand.

In the blink of an eye, Nolan's body lightly landed on the wall, then he flipped over and entered the cemetery.

What first came into view were vast expanses of tombstones, and withered trees rustling in the wind.

Within each tombstone area, one could see small, wooden-hut-shaped structures, less than a meter high.

Under the night sky, their shadows stretched long, giving an invisible sense of fear and oppression!

Facing such a gloomy scene, Nolan remained expressionless.

In his previous world, there were no such things as ghosts, yet people were still afraid. Besides being a psychological effect, it was actually a fear of the unknown.

But in this world, yes, there really are ghosts, or more accurately, specters!

How to deal with specters? Nolan's mouth curved slightly, and he began walking deeper into the cemetery: "Just kill them."

As he went deeper, the number of tombstones and withered trees gradually increased.

Nolan observed his surroundings while recalling the details in his mind.

If he remembered correctly, Khajit should be hidden in an underground temple deep within the cemetery. At the beginning of the story, he had already been lurking in the "E-Rantel" cemetery for five years.

This was for collecting negative energy.

According to the current timeline, Khajit should have only just infiltrated for about a year.

A cemetery is a place where a necromancer like Khajit has a home-field advantage, especially in the current nighttime environment.

But daytime is clearly not suitable for action.

The guards and stationed adventurer team would patrol during the day. If anything happened in the cemetery, they would certainly rush over at the first opportunity.

As for the nighttime environment, as long as there wasn't a large-scale undead assault on the walls, even if something happened within the cemetery, neither the guards nor the adventurer team would rashly enter, but would wait until daytime to deal with it.

If Khajit's advantage lay in the terrain, then, in Nolan's view, his advantage was information.

Among Khajit's many methods, what Nolan was most concerned about and needed to take seriously was the Bone Dragon.

Although this monster was only Level 16, it possessed the ability to be immune to magic below the sixth tier, which was simply a disaster for the magic casters of this world.

Even the attacks imbued with fire and sacred attributes from the Fire Archangel's hands would be negated by this characteristic.

Additionally, the advantage of its massive size meant that although the Bone Dragon was low-level, it possessed strength far exceeding what its level implied.

This was a rather troublesome undead.

Actually, given that it took Khajit five years to gather enough negative energy to summon two Bone Dragons, the current Khajit should not be able to summon a Bone Dragon.

But precautions still needed to be taken; nothing is absolute.

Of the ten Fire Archangels Nolan prepared, two were specifically for dealing with the Bone Dragons. He didn't aim to eliminate them, just to hold them off.

The depths of the cemetery had become eerily quiet.

Occasionally, bright glows like will-o'-the-wisps flashed through the withered woods around him.

About a hundred meters away, a desolate temple appeared in his sight.

It was about three meters high, with a pointed spire, supported by thick stone pillars, looking very old and severely damaged.

Judging by the extent of the damage, this temple must have existed for a very long time.

Nolan stopped at this point, turning his head slightly, his gaze sweeping around.

Under the dim moonlight, figures were vaguely approaching from within the shadows of the withered trees!

At the same time, the quiet environment began to be filled with low growls, like those of wild beasts, rising and falling.

A rotten, foul odor suddenly permeated the air.

Facing the undead zombies gradually approaching him, Nolan flipped his wrist, and a second-tier magic scroll appeared in his palm. He crushed it.

Swish! A sacred light flashed in the darkness, instantly condensing into a Guardian Angel.

At this very moment, the undead, who had been slowly approaching, suddenly accelerated their movements. Dense footsteps echoed, and their roars grew much louder.

Bang! A male undead zombie burst through a withered tree, appearing first in his front-left. Its decaying body, under the enhancement of Nolan's monocle's "Night Vision," even allowed him to see the wriggling maggots within.

"Go, lead all the undead in this area away," Nolan commanded the Guardian Angel expressionlessly.

Whoosh! The Guardian Angel flapped its bright yellow wings, soared into the air, and flew into the distance.

With the Guardian Angel's movement, the large number of undead that had been approaching in this direction simultaneously changed course.

If the aura of living beings was like fragrant fatty meat to the undead, then the sacred aura of an angel was like a torch in the dark night to them!

Nolan saw that the temple a hundred meters away showed no signs of being approached, so he stood still and waited quietly.

After about seven or eight minutes, all the undead in this area had been led away by the Guardian Angel.

"Second step." Nolan smiled slightly, flipped his hands, and a "Tier 2 · Summon Angel" magic scroll appeared in each palm.
