Alice's POV
The detectives took us to a private conference room at the resort. Bryan sat next to me, his hand holding mine under the table. I couldn't stop shaking.
Daniel was dead. Suicide. And his last words were a warning about me.
"Mrs. Hale," the female detective said, her voice gentle. She was older, maybe in her fifties, with kind eyes. "I know this is difficult. But we need to ask you some questions about your relationship with Daniel Morgan."
"We were married for three years," I said, my voice coming out steadier than I felt. "We divorced six months ago."
"And the divorce was contentious?" the male detective asked. He was younger, sharper. Less friendly.
"Yes," I said. "He cheated on me with my best friend. I filed for divorce and won half his assets."
"So there was bad blood between you," the detective said.
Bryan's hand tightened on mine. "What are you implying?" he asked, his voice cold.
