Lillian walks into the class filled with students, she looks sideways as the students stood up to greet their form master,
''Good day class, as you can all see we have a new student in our mist, she will be joining you guys as final year student, please introduce yourself to them ''
''Good day everyone, my name is Lillian, happy to make your acquaintance ''
After the introduction she was showed to her seat, the school seating arrangement was a boy and a girl, so she was sitting next to a boy named Dennis, Dennis was the second most intelligent person in class, just a normal Kid that has always been jealous of Reuben for being the idol of the class.
''hay nice to meet you am Dennis'' said Dennis.
''Thanks, nice to meet you Dennis ''
''A final year high school girl huh, so tell me, why did you leave your previous school ''
''Actually it isn't something that I like sharing''
''Oh okay so how do you find bright days?''
''Huh?''
''I mean this school, what do you think about it?'' Dennis was trying to get the attention of the new girl in school before Reuben arrive, he was the most intelligent boy in class and yet no girl had ever look his way, it had already dawn on him that it takes more than just intelligent to impress a lady, not that Dennis wasn't handsome, it's just that Reuben was two times more handsome, the fact that all Dennis ever hears is Reuben this and Reuben that made him jealous and angry at Reuben, Lillian was very beautiful and everyone could tell at first so he was scared of Lillian falling for Reuben just like most girls. But Lillian was obviously not interested in his conversation.
While he was still trying to strike a conversation with Lillian, Reuben walks into the class, as always many girls started giggling admist theirself, one even asked him if he would be free tonight so that they could go watch a movie that was airing that day. He smiled and said ''it would be a pleasure but am afraid I would have to pass''
When Reuben got to his sit he noticed an unfamiliar face sitting behind them, he turns to Saraphina.
"Who is that?"
"Oh that's the new girl that I told you would be joining us today ''
''Oh I see, so you weren't wrong after all'' he took a glance at her, ''She looks cute '' he said.
''Don't start with me Ruby '' said Saraphina.
''Don't worry am not planning to do anything silly'' he glance at her again.
''Well at least not yet''
''Yeah you are probably right '' he looks at her again. Lillian who has been watching them murmuring and looking at her every now and then, decided to speak up.
''Excuse me but I will really appreciate it if you stop talking about me '' Reuben stares at her but without saying a word he turns back to Saraphina.
''She has a lovely voice, it's almost angelic ''
''Don't you think you should be quiet, she is still listening '' said Saraphina.
''Hello, am right here'' said Lillian
''Who cares if she's listening, it's not like I said anything offensive ''
''You are right, but she has no way of knowing that ''
"Would you both stop gossiping about me already, am crying out loud am sitting behind you" she snapped. They both turned and stared at her.
"Chill girl, weren't gossiping about you, I was just telling her that you are cute and that I think you have an angelic voice" the whole class fell into an uproar, it was rear for Reuben to praise any girl, some of the girls even started eyeing Lillian, Lillian on the other hand stared at Reuben, given the ability to read minds she could tell that Reuben obviously wasn't flirting but was just stating what he thinks is a fact, not knowing what else to say she bent her head and stared at her desk.
"Thanks, but still you shouldn't be gossiping about someone, it's not a good habit" Reuben smile.
"I guess you are right, you are welcome by the way '' he turns back. Saraphina on the other hand thought something wasn't quite right, she turns to Reuben to know if he also noticed anything.
"What are you talking about?'' asked Reuben confused.
"I mean don't you think it's queer that you just told her what you were thinking and she just believed you without wandering if you were some kind of pervert ''
"What are you talking about, she believe me because she knew I was telling the truth, that's all'' said Reuben.
''And that's the problem, she just believed that you were saying the truth, it was as if she could tell that you were telling the truth just by looking at you"
"Don't you think you are reading too much meaning into this, I know that you are super sensitive but I think you are taking it too far ''
"I suppose you are right " said Saraphina, she turns to Lillian, "but still I just can't help it but feel as if am missing something " she thought.
Lillian on the other hand knew what Saraphina was thinking, it amazed her that just within a split second someone is already suspecting her of being different.
"Who's that girl sitting in the front?" She asked Dennis.
"Oh that's Saraphina, she's the class rep, she's super intelligent and also super sensitive, she's nicknamed the class detective, but most of of us just call her the class weirdo"
"Weirdo huh?" Thought Lillian, "that's the same thing they use to call me back my previous school " she smiles"looks like this new school is going to be interesting afterall"
"So why do they call her a detective "
"Well she has this weird ability of being able to tell what you are thinking just by talking to you briefly, whether it's because she's super sensitive I can't tell for sure, but she's also good at solving problems that might be a puzzle to someone else easily, to put it short nothing goes past her eyes unnoticed, she can pick up on the slightest details "
"Interesting, really interesting, I think am going to befriend her right away, a weirdo huh, let's see who's a better weirdo between the both of us" she smiles.
During the short break period, Lillian approach Saraphina.
"Hi, you must be Saraphina the class rep am Lillian but people normally call me Lilly "
''Nice to make your acquaintance Lilly"
"The pleasure is all mine, so you heading somewhere ''
"Actually I was heading to the cafeteria ''
"Mind if I join you?'' Saraphina stares at her silently ''Am actually new here as you well know so I don't actually have friends here''
"Okay if you wish " they both walk away silently.
"By the way, I heard you were super sensitive " said Lillian.
''You heard or rather you were gossiping about me" said Saraphina.
"Ouch, don't you think the word gossip is a bit extreme"
"Stop beating around the bush already, what do you want"
"Huh, who ever said I needed anything?"
"Oh drop the act and spare me the trouble, we both know you didn't just approach me because you thought we could be friends" Lillian smile.
"Guess Dennis wasn't bluffing afterall" she thought, "I don't know what you are talking, I mean I just wanted us to be friends "
"Indeed, as if am dumb enough to fall for that" said Saraphina.
"Oh really, then why don't you tell me what I, if you don't believe i wanted us to be friends then tell me what is it I really wanted" she smiles, Saraphina stares at her, it was obvious she was testing her but for what reason, "what is she trying to gain from all this, why else would she ask me to tell her what she wants if this isn't a test and if so then what does she stand to gain from all this?'' just then I thought cross her mind "could it be? Well let's find out "
"You know it's funny, to think someone would pop out of the blue and try putting me to a test, but my Question is what do you stand to gain from all this, what are you trying to prove"
"A test, prove, I don't know what you are talking about, I mean you're not far from the truth but that's not why am here"
"Then why are you here"
"Oh that won't be fun at all, they said you were super sensitive and could tell what someone is thinking just by speaking with them briefly, we've been talking for quite a while so why don't you tell me what am thinking or rather the reason I approach you"
"Is that it, you just wanted to test my intelligence? "
"Well I wouldn't go that far as to call it a test but either way you aren't far from the truth, I will be waiting in class, once you figure it out, let me know " she leaves, Reuben arrives.
"I didn't know you were already friends with Lillian"
"Nah, we aren't friends "
"Oh, but weren't both of you just chatting before I came ''
"I said we aren't friends '' Saraphina snapped.
"Oh okay, you don't need to get angry about it. so you heading for the cafeteria why don't we go together "
"Sure " they both leave.
Inside the cafeteria Saraphina stares at the table deep in thought, "they say you are super sensitive and could tell what someone is thinking just by talking with them briefly, we've been talking for a while now so what am I thinking, what does she mean by that, it's not like am telepathic or anything how can I tell what she is thinking, but wait, what she is thinking, telepathy, that's it " she stands up.
"What's wrong '' asked Reuben.
"Nothing, I will be right back " as stupid as it sounds that's all I can think of, she was able to tell that Ruby wasn't lying just by looking at him, she approach me because she was told that I could tell what someone is thinking just by talking to them briefly, she even tried to test me saying that I should tell her what she is thinking, as stupid as it sounds I think she is telepathic and actually approach me to know if am anything close to being a telepathy." She sighs "I probably look stupid right now, after all the act of telepathy itself is a myth that shouldn't be believed but still what other reason can I think of right now I guess I will find out if am right or not soon enough'' she walks into the class.
"You are telepathic aren't you?"
"What are you talking about" Saraphina stares at her "I guess I was wrong afterall, gosh I probably look stupid to her right now '' Lillian who had red Saraphina's mind smiled at herself"Or maybe am right " thought Saraphina.
"Don't play dumb with me, I don't have time for this your games, you can read minds, yes or no "
"Alright, you got me, yes I can read minds'' Saraphina's stares at her astonished. "So I was right afterall'' she thought.
"Yes you are right, but for a second there you were actually doubting yourself, if I had kept on denying it you would have left feeling stupid, but that said I guess you weren't all bark but no bite afterall ''
"Wait you can hear my thoughts " thought Saraphina.
"Yes I can, I mean that's what telepathy is all about, and you don't have to ask me a question in your mind to confirm if I'm telling the truth "
"Amazing, really, I've always believed that the act of telepathy is just a myth, but here I am, standing face to face with someone who can actually read minds, incredible"
"Yeah, yeah I've heard that like a thousand times, many people often feel that way at first but they all end up avoiding me and calling me a weirdo"
"A weirdo huh, I guess that's the main reason why you approach me in the first place, you think you just met another weirdo that you can get along with"
"I mean yeah, it's obvious, your intellect is really high it makes people uncomfortable, afterall they do call you a weirdo too right"
"I guess you are right " said Saraphina.
"Let's just cut to the chase, I want us to be friends, or rather let's be sisters " said Lillian.
