It was already past 1:30 a.m., yet sleep remained a distant rumor to Jin Di.
Ever since his baby girl left, the nights had become an endurance test rather than rest. He no longer slept naturally.
His body simply shut down when exhaustion finally overpowered longing, only to jolt him awake again after a few broken hours. Every night blurred into the next, heavy and airless.
He missed her so much it felt physical, like something vital had been carved out of his chest and taken away with her. Without her, everything felt incomplete. Hollow.
Even though she never replied, he sent messages and voice mails every single day.
Good morning.
Did you eat?
Are you warm?
I miss you.
Come back soon.
He sent them all, knowing full well there might be no answer.
Still, every morning he woke with fragile hope clutched in his heart, praying that this would be the day she finally called or texted.
And every day, when his phone stayed silent, it hurt.
