Moments later, the door opened. The room was dark, curtains drawn tight. Grandma Li strode inside, gesturing for the maid to open the curtains as she approached the bed.
A lump lay beneath the covers.
"Yuyan," Grandma Li said, her voice gentler now. "You haven't eaten today. I had them prepare rice porridge for you."
A broken whimper was the only reply.
Grandma Li sighed. She had many words on her tongue, sharp and heavy, but she swallowed them for now. This was not the time.
"Try to eat later," she said quietly before turning to leave.
"Why did this have to happen?" Huang Yuyan finally whispered, her voice hoarse and fragile.
"The Bais are like our family. I don't know if the accusations against their company are true, but my sister and Little Lu Lu are innocent. Why must they suffer like this? Poor Little Lu Lu… I want to see her, but after what Jin Yang did, I have no face to show them. I never imagined my sons could be so ruthless."
Grandma Li stopped cold.
