A few months later…
The night was quiet, the bedroom bathed in the soft glow of the bedside lamp. Nancy sat on the edge of the bed, her hands trembling as she held the small pregnancy test kit, staring at the two pink lines that changed everything. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, a mix of fear, hope, and disbelief swirling inside her.
David had been sitting at the foot of the bed, his shoes kicked off, sleeves rolled up, lost in thought. When he saw the look on her face, something in him clicked—an instinct, a rush of adrenaline and joy.
"Nancy… what is it?" he asked, voice soft at first, then tightening with worry.
She lifted the test toward him, her hands shaking. "David… I'm… I'm pregnant."
For a heartbeat, he froze, staring at the small kit. Then realization hit him like a lightning bolt. His eyes went wide, and without a second thought, he launched himself from the foot of the bed.
He ran, barefoot, across the soft carpet, almost stumbling over the edge of the bed in his haste. His arms shot out instinctively, reaching for her, his chest heaving. "Nancy! Is this… real?" he shouted, voice cracking, a mixture of disbelief and joy.
Nancy, startled at first, couldn't contain her excitement any longer. She threw her hands in the air, squealing, "I'm pregnant! David—I'm pregnant!"
David reached her in an instant, grasping her waist and lifting her slightly, holding her tight as if afraid the moment might vanish. His laughter broke through in a childlike, unrestrained way, blending with tears streaming down his cheeks.
"I… I'm going to be a father!" he gasped, spinning her gently on the bed, laughing and crying at the same time. "Our baby… ours!"
Nancy buried her face in his chest, laughing and crying too, wrapping her arms around him as he collapsed beside her on the bed, still holding her close. He pressed his forehead to hers, trembling with happiness.
"I can't believe it… after all these years…" he whispered, voice thick with emotion. "We finally… we finally get a baby!"
Nancy laughed softly through her tears, brushing a stray lock of hair from his face. "Yes… ours. It's real. It's really happening."
They lay together on the bed, hands entwined, hearts racing, letting the joy, relief, and wonder wash over them. In that small, quiet room, the world had shifted forever, and they were finally ready to embrace it—together.
A few weeks after the miraculous news.
The house was quiet that morning, filled only with the soft hum of the fridge and the occasional chirp of birds outside. Nancy sat at the kitchen table, her hands wrapped around a warm mug of tea, her heart still fluttering from the sheer joy of carrying life inside her.
David leaned against the counter, casually sipping his coffee, though his eyes never left her. He knew that look—the mixture of anticipation, nervousness, and excitement.
Nancy's phone buzzed, breaking the peaceful silence. She glanced at it and smiled. "It's Mother," she said.
"Go ahead," David encouraged.
Nancy answered. "Hello?"
"Nancy! David! Is it true? Are you really pregnant?" Mrs. Turner's voice came through, trembling with excitement.
Nancy laughed softly, her eyes sparkling. "Yes, Mother. It's true. I'm pregnant!"
"Oh, praise God! I'm so happy! I just had to hear it from you," Mrs. Turner said, her voice cracking slightly. "I can't wait to see you both!"
David smiled, stepping closer. "Don't worry, Mother. We'll see you soon. But yes, it's real—our little miracle is on the way."
Months passed, and soon the moment of knowing arrived. The ultrasound room was filled with the soft hum of the machine, but Nancy's heartbeat seemed louder than anything else. David sat beside her, holding her hand tightly, eyes full of anticipation.
The technician smiled. "Would you like to know the gender?"
"Yes," Nancy whispered, her lips curving in a nervous, excited smile.
The screen flickered, and then the words and images appeared.
"It's a girl!" the technician announced.
Nancy and David froze for a heartbeat, then erupted into laughter and tears. David lifted her in a spinning hug, holding her close as both of them laughed and cried. "A daughter! Our little girl!" he shouted, tears streaming freely. "I can't believe it!"
Nancy pressed her forehead against his, laughing through her tears. "She's perfect, David… just like this moment."
