CHAPTER SIXTEEN — THE HEIR THEY AWAKENED
The moment the binding snapped, the world tilted.
Not metaphorically.
Physically.
The Heart Chamber shuddered beneath my feet as if it had finally decided gravity was optional. Silver runes flared so bright they burned white against the stone, and a pressure slammed into my chest that forced the air from my lungs.
I screamed.
Not from pain though there was plenty of that but from the sheer wrongness of it. From the sensation of something ancient uncoiling inside me, stretching limbs it hadn't used in decades.
My wolf didn't howl.
She rose.
Fully.
Terrifyingly.
I felt her spine align with mine, felt her eyes open behind my own, felt power flood my veins like molten metal. My senses sharpened violently the scrape of claws on stone from beyond the hidden door, the copper tang of blood in the air, the frantic heartbeats of everyone in the chamber.
