Chapter 7 - Fair is fair

Jay's perspective

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the light streaming through the curtains — and the second was Keifer's arm still around me. Again.

"Seriously?" I muttered, trying to wiggle free without waking him. But even half-asleep, his grip tightened.

"Five more minutes," he mumbled, voice low and heavy with sleep.

I sighed. "You said that fifteen minutes ago."

His eyes finally fluttered open, lazy and warm. "You were counting?"

"Only because you're crushing me!" I said, trying not to smile.

He laughed softly, releasing me at last. "Fine, fine. But I'm driving you home. Angelo's gonna kill me if you're late."

I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the small smile tugging at my lips. "You mean he'll kill us."

Keifer's perspective

She looked like a dream sitting there by the window, sunlight catching the edge of her hair. I grabbed my keys, pretending not to stare too long. "Ready?" I asked.

"Ready." She slipped into her shoes, still wearing my shirt — the one that now hung a little loose on her. I didn't mention it, but I didn't need to. The sight alone made my heart skip.

The drive was quiet at first, just the hum of the engine and the morning breeze flowing through the open window. Then she turned to me, her tone softer.

"Thanks… for yesterday. For everything."

I smiled. "You make it sound like I did something huge."

"You did," she said quietly. "You were there."

Her words settled in my chest, warm and lingering.

When we finally reached her house, I parked by the gate. She unbuckled her seatbelt but didn't move right away.

"So…" she started, glancing at me sideways.

"So?"

"Fair is fair, right?" she teased. Then she leaned in and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before jumping out of the car, cheeks flushed.

"Jay Jay," I called after her, even though I could feel my face turning red ,

she went inside grinning as she shut the gate behind her.
