Chapter 5 - What Kind Of School Is This?

The next day…

Mr. Yuto accompanied Rai to his high school, Reviva High School, a very large building located in the center of the island. Mr. Yuto intentionally came along because he was afraid Rai would be late on his first day.

"A bright day for school, isn't it? Are you ready to meet your new friends?" asked Mr. Yuto with a smile.

With a cold expression, Rai replied, "Doesn't sound interesting."

Mr. Yuto looked at his watch, which showed 07:00. Because of that, he pushed Rai to walk faster.

"We're almost late. Come on, pick up your pace or we'll be late," said Mr. Yuto.

Rai only surrendered as he was pushed by Mr. Yuto. When they arrived in front of the classroom door, Mr. Yuto began explaining the school system.

"Hey, kid, you have to remember. Here, there is something called the Reviva Council. If you cause trouble with even one of the members, you will be punished by them," said Mr. Yuto while holding both of Rai's shoulders.

Rai sighed. "I don't care about them…"

"All right then, I'll be going," said Mr. Yuto.

Mr. Yuto ran off. Rai, seeing that, was slightly confused. But confidently, he reached for the classroom door. Suddenly, the door opened from the inside and a female teacher appeared in front of him.

"Ah, so you finally came. Allow me to introduce myself. I will be your homeroom teacher starting today. My name is ZeraHelena, but you can call me Zera," she said.

Hearing that, Rai was slightly shocked. "What is this? Is this woman really my homeroom teacher?"

Ms. Zera told Rai to enter and introduce himself in front of the other students. Some students who saw Rai were surprised.

"Oi, isn't that the kid who almost got hit by the ball we kicked yesterday?" whispered a male student.

"Is he the one who made the tuna jaw last night? He looks so different today…" whispered a female student.

Ms. Zera hit the whiteboard using a long ruler to make the class quiet.

"Silence and listen! All of you are no different from trash! So be quiet!" shouted Ms. Zera.

Her words made the entire class fall silent immediately, and at the same time hurt, because they were called trash. To break the awkward atmosphere, Rai quickly introduced himself.

"Rai Tsukasa, 16 years old. Don't ask where I come from. Hobby? I don't have one," said Rai quickly.

His words made the class fall completely silent. Ms. Zera sighed long.

"All right… then you can sit in the empty seat at the back corner near the window. The student who used to sit there has already left this high school."

Hearing that, Rai understood immediately. "So that's how it is… I'm just a replacement student, huh?"

Rai walked past the other students and sat down. Ms. Zera told everyone to focus again.

"Focus! Where is your focus? I'm going to start teaching! So pay close attention!" shouted Ms. Zera.

One of the students complained again, "Why are we given a homeroom teacher like this? Noisy and loves insulting."

Rai only stayed silent and ignored it. He just wanted to try enjoying his high school days.

While Ms. Zera was explaining, a boy sitting on Rai's right began whispering. Rai turned toward him.

"Hey, buddy. I'm XenoFelix," he said while extending his hand.

Rai ignored him and looked back toward Ms. Zera. Xeno smiled at Rai's attitude.

Suddenly an eraser flew toward them, making the whole class laugh.

"Hey, Xeno! Why are you smiling, huh? What are you laughing at?" said Ms. Zera.

Xeno held his face where the eraser had hit him. Rai stayed silent and didn't care about what happened.

During the lunch break, Xeno sat in front of Rai, trying to talk to him.

"Hey, do you want to go to the cafeteria?"

"No, I'm too lazy for lunch," replied Rai.

Xeno took out a piece of bread from his clothes and offered it.

"If you're too lazy to go to the cafeteria, here's bread for you."

Rai stared at him with a blank expression. "Too bad, I don't like bread."

Annoyed, Xeno opened the bread and ate it while staring at Rai.

"Then what do you want?"

Quickly, Rai replied, "I just want you to stop talking to me."

Xeno threw the bread wrapper out the window out of frustration. But then he suddenly froze, making Rai confused.

"Hm? What now?" muttered Rai.

Rai looked out the window toward the soccer field. He saw two second-year boys extorting another student while threatening and punching him.

"Hey, Rai… you already know about Reviva Points, right?" asked Xeno.

Rai stayed silent, focusing on the bullying.

"Here, Reviva Points are everything. According to the rules, you're free to extort anyone. But if your points are too low, you'll starve to death," added Xeno.

Rai sighed. "Then, have you ever been extorted too?"

"Sometimes. But sometimes I have to fight to protect my points. But the toughest enemies are members of Reviva who also extort students," replied Xeno nervously.

Suddenly, from the hallway outside the class, came loud noises, something falling, and screams from the female students.

Rai and Xeno rushed outside. They saw boys from Percival class fighting with boys from Opportunis class.

Xeno was terrified. Suddenly someone threw a broom at them. Xeno panicked, but Rai swiftly dodged it.

"Did they just hit the wrong target?" said Rai.

Suddenly Lyube arrived and broke up the fight by kicking and punching the students one by one.

"Who else, huh? Who else wants to fight?!" shouted Lyube while stepping on one of the Opportunis boys.

Lyube saw Rai staring at him seriously, as if holding a grudge. Lyube smirked and walked away.

The female students talked excitedly.

"Kyaah! Big Bro Lyube is so cool. He's great at martial arts, he's the Security Division Leader, and on top of that he's handsome and still single!"

Xeno felt jealous. "Must be nice having a handsome face and being good at martial arts like him…"

Rai turned and walked back into the classroom. Xeno followed him.

"Hey Rai, your reflex earlier wasn't luck, right? I know… you must be good at martial arts," said Xeno.

Coldly, Rai answered, "In this world, there is something called luck. And that earlier was my luck."

"You must be lying, right? Let me guess… you could probably beat Big Bro Lyube, right?" said Xeno.

Rai sat back down. "What do you mean? How could someone who can't fight beat someone who's skilled at martial arts?"

Xeno fell silent and began thinking. "Oh yeah… he's actually right," he muttered.

Suddenly the boys from their class who had been fighting earlier entered the room, battered and bruised. Xeno asked,

"Wey, why were you all fighting them?"

"They tried to take our points. And they started it first," said one of the boys.

"Damn, if that's the case, they deserve to be punched," said Xeno.

Another boy hit Xeno on the shoulder. "Then why were you just standing there earlier and not helping us?"

"Hehehe, I can't fight," replied Xeno.

"Yah! You idiot!" said the boy.

He then looked at Rai, who was staring out the window.

"Hey, did you guys see it? He dodged the broom thrown at high speed by that Percival student."

"Who cares? That was just his luck. Besides, think logically—no way that cold kid can fight," said another boy.

They all laughed loudly at that, except Xeno, who still believed it wasn't just luck.
