Chapter 101 - Chapter 101: Following Klein

Chapter 101: Following Klein

"Silas, for the first time you've been late this semester, shouldn't you share your thoughts?" Klein looked at Silas with a disapproving expression.

Silas gave an awkward laugh. "Well, people have accidents, right? Don't worry, Teacher, I absolutely won't be late next time."

"Mhm, very good. Hand in a written promise to me tomorrow," Klein said.

"Understood, Teacher!" Silas didn't care about the written promise at all; he could just have a Shadowkhan write it.

Klein nodded and allowed Silas into the classroom.

Under Peter's supervision, Silas shouldn't have been late, but this time he really wanted to stay in bed a little longer. Unexpectedly, he closed his eyes and opened them half an hour later. He was too lazy to use the Shadow Realm and slowly made his way to school.

"Silas, what happened to your promise? You said you wouldn't be late," Peter said helplessly. If Silas hadn't been so sure he wouldn't be late, even mentioning that the Shadow Realm could instantly transport him to school, Peter would never have left Silas alone in bed.

"Aiya~ it was an accident," Silas said, waving it off.

"No, no, no, this is the real Silas," Misty said from behind them.

Ned spoke up beside them, "I say, guys, want to go out this weekend?"

"Uh, Ned, I might not be free," Peter said. He had to be Spider-Man, after all.

"Come on, buddy. I specifically asked Fila to bring a female friend," Ned pleaded.

Peter's ears perked up. "Which one is Fila?"

"Mmm~ The girl I met at the school gate last time. She's a great girl. I think she's going to be a part of my life," Ned said, unable to resist praising Fila when Peter brought her up.

"Uh... Ned, you praised Kate the exact same way last time," Peter said, his face darkening slightly.

Ned quickly gave an awkward laugh. "Don't pay attention to those small details. Anyway, are you coming or not? This is a great chance to escape single life, you know." He finished with a wink at Peter.

"I... I'll go," Peter finally decided. He needed to check it out. This was a good chance for him to escape single life. Spider-Man needed to have a life too, but if he ran into anyone needing help along the way, he would transform into Spider-Man without hesitation.

"I'm not free this weekend. I need to go to the countryside, sorry," Misty said. She really wanted to join them, especially with Silas being there.

"It's okay, Misty. We can hang out next time," Silas said.

Ned chimed in, "Don't worry, Silas, I get it. I'll ask Fila to bring another friend."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Ned felt a sense of impending doom. He looked back and saw Misty staring at him.

"A guy," Ned explained quickly.

After school in the afternoon

The four of them walked out of the school together and saw Teacher Klein.

"Where are you all planning to go?" Klein asked.

Ned was the first to answer. "We're discussing where to go this weekend."

"Going out together? That sounds nice. I wish you a good weekend, goodbye." Klein walked away.

Ned watched Klein's retreating figure. "Wow, Teacher is wearing blue pants with pink patterns on them."

Silas frowned inwardly. Today, Klein was a bit strange, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was. An inner instinct, though, was telling him that something was off about Klein today.

Silas turned to Peter, and sure enough, Peter also wore a puzzled expression. It seemed he also sensed something wasn't right with Klein.

"Hey! What are you two staring at?" Ned turned back and found Silas and Peter staring in Klein's direction, seemingly deep in thought.

Silas snapped out of it and explained, "I'm thinking about where to go this weekend."

"Me too," Peter quickly added.

"Anyway, the weekend is still two days away, so we have time to think. I'm leaving. Bye!" Ned waved and chased after a girl who had walked past.

Misty pointed to a sedan parked nearby. "In that case, I'm leaving too. Do you need a ride?"

"No thanks, Misty," Silas declined.

Misty nodded, opened the car door, got in, and drove slowly away.

"Peter, you felt it too, didn't you?" Silas said, turning to Peter.

Peter nodded. "Yeah, I feel like there's something wrong with Teacher Klein today, but I can't say exactly what it is."

"Let's head home first," Silas said, pulling Peter along.

Peter shook his head. "No need, Silas. My Spider-Suit is in my backpack. I'll go first; you can catch up."

With that, Peter stealthily followed Klein.

Silas shrugged. Peter's shadow was marked, so he could always find him.

Peter immediately slipped into an alley and put on his Spider-Suit. He glanced at his backpack. "Oh no, I should have left my backpack with Silas." However, it didn't matter. Peter threw his backpack onto a ten-foot wall and stuck it there with a web, ensuring no one would steal it.

Having done all that, Peter shot a web and chased after Klein's trail.

Klein was driving home, and Peter was following him from the rooftops.

Soon, Peter followed Klein all the way home, and nothing strange happened. Had he made a mistake?

"What happened?" Silas suddenly appeared behind Peter, startling him.

"Whoa! You scared me, Silas!" Peter clutched his chest. That ability to appear out of nowhere was truly frightening.

Silas rolled his eyes. "You're Spider-Man, after all. Do you really need to be this scared?"

"Spider-Man is still human," Peter said helplessly. Silas's ability to appear out of nowhere would surely startle even Mr. Stark if he suddenly showed up beside him.

"You haven't answered my question yet," Silas said, staring down at Klein, who had gone inside his house.

Peter replied, "Everything was normal. Nothing out of the ordinary happened."

"Then let's go back," Silas said, patting Peter's shoulder.

"That's it?!" Peter had spent ten minutes chasing him only to accomplish nothing.

Silas summoned a Shadowkhan ninja. "It's fine. He's watching him. He'll let me know immediately if anything happens."

"That ability is great," Peter said.

"Want to learn it? I can teach you," Silas said with a laugh.

Peter's eyes lit up. "Really?"

"Fake," Silas said, pulling Peter back toward the house.

Peter returned to his room, going straight to his room with a look of resentment, though he felt like he was missing something.

Near Klein's House

Little Black and Big Black were watching the house, bored. Silas had only summoned Little Black, but Big Black had tagged along, insisting he needed to protect Little Black. So, Silas had no choice but to let him go.

Little Black and Big Black, thoroughly bored, had even resorted to playing rock-paper-scissors.

Suddenly! Bang! A sound of shattering came from inside Klein's house.
