Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The quirk Apprehension Test

The day began not with a speech, but with a threat.

Tsubaki found the imposing door 1-A. He paused, his hand hovering over the handle. Inside, the true war began.

He slid the door open and stepped in. The room was noisy, forcing Tsubaki to instantly process his environment. His sharp blue eyes quickly cataloged his most memorable competitors: Eijiro Kirishima, the red spiky-haired boy; the girl with the earphone jacks, Kyoka Jiro a girl he saw in his battle zone, she was sitting quietly; and in the center of the room, the source of the main commotion.

The rigid Tenya Iida was mid-lecture, chopping the air with aggressive hand gestures as he spoke to the explosive Katsuki Bakugo, whose feet were propped carelessly on a desk.

"Don't put your feet on the desk!" Iida commanded, his posture rigid. "It's disrespectful to our upperclassmen and the craftspeople who made it!"

"Huh?" Bakugo snarled, sparks already flying off his palms. "Who are you, you extra? Don't you try to tell me what to do!"

" You just arrived you can't be so disrespectful to the schools property."

Iida replied sharply.

Bakugo replied " Ohh please get that stick out your ass and mind your own business or I'll kill you!"

Iida was shocked " Are you threatening me?"

Tsubaki moved past the confrontation. His gaze briefly swept over a student with an elegant posture and dark hair tied back in a voluminous ponytail: Momo Yaoyorozu. He recognized the air of reserved confidence and intellectual poise—likely another recommended student, a peer he would need to surpass.

He chose a seat in the back row by the window, setting his bag down silently. He was an observer, not a participant. His calm, isolated presence drew the instant, furious attention of Bakugo. But at some point the green haired boy and the brown haired girl walked in and Iida had praised the boy for recognizing that there was hero points but from the way the boy acted you could tell he had no clue. Which if you were honest was better than you at least he saved someone intentionally.

The noise reached a dull roar until a voice, flat and tired, cut through the din.

"If you're going to spend your first day making friends, you can leave now."

A yellow, caterpillar-like figure unzipped, and out stepped Shota Aizawa. The talking in the class stopped as everyone stared at the tired looking man.

"It took you eight seconds to quiet down,"

Aizawa deadpanned.

"Time is precious. I'm Shota Aizawa, and I'll be your homeroom teacher for the next few years."

'He's a teacher!?!' Everyone thought at the same time.

He pulled a set of gym uniforms out of the sleeping bag. "Put these on and meet me on the field. Now."

Tsubaki retrieved his gym uniform and headed to the boys' changing room. He moved with cold efficiency, peeling off his jacket and uniform shirt. His torso was lean, corded with muscle, and unnaturally pale, a consequence of his Quirk's continuous, low-level thermal draw.

He was aware of the other boys—Kirishima, Bakugo, Iida, and Midoriya—changing quickly around him. Bakugo was still muttering angrily about Iida, his hands occasionally sparking. Tsubaki paid them no mind, pulling the U.A. gym shirt over his shoulders, hiding his body's unique coloration and maintaining his barrier of absolute cold.

Once the class was assembled on the field, it was the cheerful, round-faced girl, Ochaco Uraraka, who voiced the question everyone was thinking.

"Um, Sensei? Aren't we supposed to have the entrance ceremony with the rest of the school?" Uraraka asked, tilting her head.

Aizawa sighed, rubbing his tired eyes. "The welcome ceremony? Waste of time. U.A. is not a conventional high school. We are not constrained by tradition. We teach heroes how to be heroes, and sitting through a principal's speech won't help you do that. Put simply: we teach as we see fit."

Aizawa addressed the class with a look of utter boredom.

"U.A. is about using your Quirks to push past your limits. The country still uses physical tests without the use of quirks when your younger it's an outdated system that limits students in terms of understanding their quirks. That's why we are gonna do a bunch of tests however your gonna use your quirk to help you."

Aizawa's eyes swept the assembled students before landing on Tsubaki.

"Todoroki Tsubaki," Aizawa commanded. Tsubaki's posture didn't change, but his eyes locked onto his teacher's. "You scored the highest in the practical exam. 109 points. You finished first overall. You were ranked Number One in the entrance exam."

Aizawa's words were a grenade. Bakugo, whose confidence was absolute, physically bristled, his shoulders tense and his expression contorted with instantaneous fury. The rest of the class shot him glances after all who wouldn't be interested in the top student he was the standard they had to try and surpass.

"Since you are the top scorer," Aizawa continued, his focus sharp, "you will demonstrate the first test, the softball throw. What was your softball record in middle school?"

"65 meters" I replied

He handed Tsubaki the softball. "You can use your qurik in anyway as long as you stay in the circle for you throw."

Tsubaki stepped into the circle. His Quirk, Absolute Zero, required surgical focus; it was not a launch propellant. The challenge was maximizing distance with a Quirk designed for destructive precision.

'I must be creative and some how use my environment to help me', Tsubaki thought quickly, his cold blue eyes narrowed in concentration.'I need propulsion.'

He held the ball in his right hand. He focused the cold downward, covering his body in a thin, crystalline layer of hyper-cooled ice—a micro-armor for thermal regulation.

Then, with a controlled surge of pure cold focused through his left foot, he instantly created a smooth, concave Cryo-Catalyst Ramp of dense ice beneath him, angled sharply upward. Simultaneously, he applied a focused pulse of absolute cold to the very bottom of the softball.

Tsubaki swung his arm. Instead of simply letting go, he released the ball into the air, and at the exact moment it left his fingertips, he unleashed a tight, controlled, high-pressure burst of rapidly expanding, super-cooled air directly from his palm, acting like a compressed air cannon against the cold, smooth base of the ball. He had learned to use his qurik in many different ways thanks to his training.

The ball launched forward and upward, gaining immense speed, finishing its trajectory as it left the ramp's curve.

The explosion of cold vapor momentarily obscured him. Tsubaki stood perfectly still, his eyes fixed on the ball's trajectory, his body giving off a faint, shivering cold, quickly suppressed.

Aizawa glanced at his monitor. He looked back at Tsubaki, a flicker of something close to approval in his tired eyes.'Even if his qurik isn't meant for this type of test he still found a way it shows he can think on the spot.'

The device beeped.

595.7 meters.

Other quriks could probably beat the score, but Tsubaki had demonstrated brilliant strategic application.

Bakugo stared at Todoroki's back 'If he's the number 1 then I'll prove I'm better.' He thought then grinned.

" That looks like fun" said they pink girl Mina Ashido. " Yeah we get to use our quirks in actual tests." said the yellow haired boy Denki Kaminari.

" That demonstration shows why Todoroki is the top student nearly 600 metres so manly" said the spiky red head Eijiro Kirishima.

Suddenly a cold voice cut in " Fun huh that's what you think this is! " their homeroom teacher glared at them. "Fine then I'll up the stakes so you take this seriously the student who finishes last will be immediately expelled."

Dead silence. The previously excited students felt dread.

" But that's not fair we fought to get here!?!" said a panicked Kaminari

" Life isn't fair and this is U.A. I can do what I want." Aizawa's voice cut through the air like butter " Welcome to the hero course." He said with a grin.
