Chapter 9 - chapter 8

Chapter 8: Danger

Vanessa's Point of View....

I was about to stand up from my seat to follow Matt to Zein, but before I could fully stand up, Matt was already carrying her.

He was walking slowly while carrying Zein, but if you looked into his eyes, you'd know that he could explode with anger at any moment. This is the first time I've seen him like that.

"Take them to the clinic now!" I heard Mia scream from behind me.

The guard was carrying Dave, who was also unconscious. His skin's dryness was noticeable.

Shit! This is bad!

"Everyone not involved in the incident. Stay behind." Madame Violet shouted with a wide grin.

I clenched my fist. What kind of leader is she? She still managed to have fun even though two students were fighting for their lives. Shit!

"I must say... the spilling of blood has begun." Whispered the person next to me who had a wine glass.

This is the girl who said it was drugs. The only female member of the Black Blood Gang.

"Shut up, witch."I left her there at our table and ran towards the clinic. As I ran, many questions were running through my mind.

Who did this? What is she planning? Why did she do that? Are we her target?

Shit!

I found Mia sobbing outside the clinic while Jerome comforted her. Matt was staring blankly and deep in thought.

"Who do you think did this?" I asked.

Matt looked at me, grinning while shaking his head. What is his problem.

"Who do you think, Vanessa?" He asked back.

"I don't know. I have no idea." I said. Silence enveloped us again. Mia had calmed down a bit from crying.

"You may come in now..." the school nurse, Nurse Cha, greeted us.

We entered the room and found the unconscious Zein and Dave. Dave's dry skin was gone, but Zein's remained and seemed to be getting worse.

"A type of illegal drug was mixed into the alcohol; the dosage wasn't a joke, that's why this happened. Dave will wake up soon, while Zein needs further observation." She said to us.

I was devastated by what happened to them. And at the same time, furious at whoever the animal was that did this to them. They are demons.

"What puzzles me is why the effect on Ms. Shion is like that. It's too severe." She added with a frown.

"How did that happen? They both drank the same thing?" Mia asked.

Yeah. Why was Zein's worse? Why does something seem wrong again?

"I don't know either, but maybe it depends on the amount they drank."

"Zein only had two glasses! Dave drank a lot more! Why does it seem reversed?" Jerome asked.

"I can't answer that now, but we will conduct an investigation about this. Don't worry, once we find out the answer. We will inform you. Excuse me." She left the clinic.

Matt sat on the sofa with his head bowed while Mia and I observed the condition of the two.

"Whoever did this. I swear, I will never forgive them." Mia said fiercely.

Up close, even Zein's lips had turned black. Her skin looked bloodless. I hope nothing bad happens to her.

"Damn that nurse." Matt muttered, pulling his hair out.

I frowned. Why is it the nurse's fault?

"Matt, it's not the nurse's fault." Jerome corrected him.

He laughed loudly. His laugh was creepy. It was like he wasn't Matt anymore. Like he was possessed by something. What is happening to him?

"Do you think they will help us?" He asked us. "No. Even if we die, they won't do anything." He said with a grin.

He stood up and approached Zein. He stroked her hair. His face softened and gradually clenched into a fist.

"W-what do you mean?" Mia asked, clearly confused.

Even I am confused. Why is he blaming the nurse? She didn't do anything wrong.

"She didn't do anything. She didn't treat or even touch Zein and Dave." He replied.

Now I noticed that there should have been equipment attached to Zein. There should have been oxygen supplied because it was obvious they were having difficulty breathing, especially Zein. But there wasn't any.

"Bitch." I said angrily and was about to leave when Jerome stopped me.

"He shouldn't know that we doubt him. He might do something bad to us, especially to Zein and Dave." He said, undoubtedly making a point.

Mia could only sit on the sofa and crumple the pillow there. They are devils. They are really testing us. They better watch out if anything bad happens to Zein and Dave. They better watch out.

"We need to do something! Zein and Dave's lives are in danger!" I shouted.

We ducked when the window next to us suddenly shattered. Jerome quickly ran outside to check who did it while Mia and I could only sit in a corner.

"I don't want this anymore! I want to get out of here!" Mia shouted.

I hugged her because I could feel how scared she was. Her body was trembling. Everything feels like a dream. A nightmare. It's also like we're in a game with many puzzles, a game where we don't know who the enemy is.

"Nothing." Jerome said, just having come in.

It was only now that I noticed Matt holding a blue liquid, placed in a small bottle. It seemed to glow.

"What's that?" I asked.

I left Mia for a moment to get close to Matt, who was still staring at the bottle.

"Is that what they threw? But, what is it for?" Jerome asked, unable to take his eyes off the bottle either.

"They want to make Zein and Dave drink it." Matt said.

He took his eyes off the bottle and turned his gaze to us.

"Who? Wait! We don't know who gave that! Something might happen to Zein!" I interjected.

Things might get worse. We don't know where it came from.

"We need to trust them. We have to trust. Zein and Dave's lives are already in danger. If they're not cured immediately, maybe... maybe everything will get worse." He pleaded, asking for agreement.

Matt is right. This might be the cure." Jerome agreed.

I don't know what will happen if they make Zein and Dave drink this blue liquid but if we don't act, their lives might truly be in danger.

I just nodded. Matt smiled at me and held my shoulder. "Trust me." He said before turning his back and heading towards Zein and Dave.

Matt made Dave drink it first before Zein. Minutes passed and we remained watching the two soundly sleeping. Our anxiety grew when nothing happened.

"W-Why does nothing seem to be happening?" Mia asked.

No one answered us. I don't want this. I don't want to think about anything but I can't shake off the anxiety and fear. We need to be strong. It's just beginning

We were filled with hope when Dave opened his eyes. He was panting heavily so we gave him water. He drank three glasses as if he hadn't had water in days.

"Dave, you're awake." Mia said tearfully, now hugging Dave.

I couldn't help but smile. We know how Mia feels about Dave. That's why I know she was so scared when this happened.

"W-where's Zein?" Dave asked.

He looked to his side where Zein was, still unconscious. Why is that? Why isn't she waking up yet?

We heard a vase break next to Matt, who was now just looking down.

"No. Zein will wake up! Why are you acting like that?! Zein will open her eyes! She'll even be grumpy with us!" I didn't know what to do anymore.

I shook her but nothing happened. Tears started welling up in my eyes. This can't be! Zein won't die!

"Why is that?! It worked on Dave, why not on Zein?!" Jerome was also restless.

Silence reigned among us until we heard the door open. It revealed a girl who was perhaps a bit younger than us.

"What are you doing here? Who are you?" Mia asked her.

"I am not an enemy. I am here to help you." She said,

She went straight to Zein's side. We all watched her, waiting for what she would do.

Our eyes widened when we saw her pull out a knife. We couldn't move and just watched as she lifted Zein's shirt and cut a small incision in the middle of her chest.

"What did you do?!" Jerome grabbed the girl's clothes but she didn't react at all.

"Ahh..." Matt stood up when he heard Zein's faint moan

We were all filled with hope.

"Now. Make her drink the medicine they gave." The girl said, now released by Jerome.

Matt quickly approached and made Zein drink the remaining liquid in the bottle.

"That is the Blue Elixir. A type of medicine that can clean the blood flow to the heart. It didn't work earlier because she was asleep so I cut her stomach to wake her up." She explained.

I jumped for joy when Zein opened her eyes. Like Dave, she was also very thirsty.

Tears fell from my eyes because of happiness. My breathing also eased. I looked behind me to thank the girl but she was gone.

"Where is she?" I asked.

They just shrugged and smiled again. Finally, Zein and Dave are safe. Thank you very much to those who helped us but I have one question.

According to her explanation. The blue elixir will only work if the one drinking it is awake. It didn't work on Zein because she was asleep, but why did it work on Dave?

Is it possible that Dave was awake and not really unconscious?

How?.
