The girl was wearing the academy uniform.
Her ponytail was tied high, and her whole body radiated a sense of youthful energy.
Yet in the next second,
that lively, pretty face of a young girl
suddenly froze over with a layer of frost.
Her whole person began to give off an aura of "keep away, strangers."
"This is… twenty years ago?"
She looked around.
Seeing the student uniform she was wearing,
and the Breeding Center in front of her,
Isobe Himeko muttered to herself.
She clearly remembered
that she had already fallen in that colossal Legendary Pokémon riot that swept across the entire world.
Mountains had collapsed, the earth had split open, magma had spewed forth, the seas had roared, lightning had flashed, thunder had crashed, and howling gales had raged.
The entire world had fallen into a terrifying chaos and darkness.
Even though, back then,
she had already become the youngest Champion-level Trainer in the world—
hailed as the greatest genius in history,
and the trainer most likely to reach the League Master-tier—
she had still been completely helpless in the face of power on that scale.
In the end,
after all of her Pokémon had died in battle,
she too had perished with resentment in her heart.
But why,
was she now standing here safe and sound again?
Moreover,
everything in front of her felt so real, the sights and sensations so vivid,
that she could be certain she was absolutely not inside an illusion.
"Th-this… could this be Celebi's power?"
Himeko suddenly recalled
that just before she completely lost consciousness,
she had seen a small green Pokémon with two gossamer wings on its back flying toward her.
Thinking about it now,
it had to have been Celebi using its power to traverse time and space to send her back to this point in time.
But why would it do that?
Himeko frowned, unable to stop herself from thinking it over.
"Himeko? Are you alright?"
The female instructor beside her
saw Himeko standing there in a daze
and walked over, calling out to her gently.
"I'm fine."
Himeko's thoughts were pulled back.
She shook her head as she spoke.
She couldn't figure out the answer to that question,
so she decided not to dwell on it any further.
Since she had been given another chance at being reborn,
so be it.
She absolutely had to change the outcome of that final battle,
and turn the future of all humanity onto a different path.
"As long as you're fine. I thought you weren't feeling well."
"Hurry up and go choose your Starter Pokémon!"
the instructor said.
Right, the Starter Pokémon!
Himeko lifted her head,
and a ripple flashed through her eyes.
She instantly remembered:
there was a Dratini Egg here in this Breeding Center!
That was a powerful Pokémon that could eventually evolve into Dragonite!
If she could make it hers,
that would be the most perfect opening possible!
In her previous life,
the Starter Pokémon she'd chosen had only been a rather average Spearow.
Even so,
relying on her own talent and effort,
she had still managed, in just twenty short years,
to become a top-tier Champion-level Trainer.
If her Starter Pokémon had been Dratini from the very beginning—
Himeko was confident
that she could have become a Champion-level Trainer within ten years!
No—
she might not even have needed ten years!
At that thought,
she couldn't help getting a little excited.
She took a deep breath.
Her gaze swept across the entire Breeding Center,
and she began searching for that Dratini Egg.
In the spacious center,
some of the graduating students had already picked out their Pokémon Eggs.
However,
most of the ones they chose
were Bug-type Pokémon like Caterpie or Weedle, which were on the weaker side.
That was normal.
Because the bond between a Pokémon and a Trainer was mutual.
Even Pokémon still in their eggs, not yet hatched,
already had their own thoughts and personalities.
If someone forcibly took away a Pokémon Egg that did not like or acknowledge them,
then after the Pokémon hatched,
there was a high chance it would refuse to obey its Trainer's orders and become rebellious and willful.
It would be completely unable to serve as a real fighting force in their hands.
It could even,
in severe cases, turn on and devour its own Trainer.
The more powerful a Pokémon was,
the higher its requirements for its Trainer.
Only Pokémon like Caterpie, Weedle, and other species at the very bottom of the entire Pokémon ecosystem
were not so demanding when it came to their Trainers.
Besides that,
the more naturally gifted a Pokémon was,
the more money and resources it would require to raise and train properly.
That was not something an ordinary family could afford.
By comparison,
Bug-type Starter Pokémon were much easier to keep.
Sometimes just feeding them a few leaves and vegetation was enough to satisfy their daily needs.
This was also why, among the graduates here who had already chosen their Pokémon Eggs,
most of them had gone for Bug-type Pokémon.
[Species: Ledyba] [Type: Bug / Flying]…
[Species: Wurmple] [Type: Bug]…
[Species: Taillow] [Type: Normal / Flying]…
As her eyes quickly swept across row after row of Pokémon Eggs set on the racks,
a string of data kept popping up
in front of Himeko's vision.
This was Himeko's innate special talent: the Eye of Appraisal!
It not only allowed her to see a Pokémon's species and typing,
but also its level, condition, and potential!
This was one of the key reasons
why she had been able to become one of the very top Trainers in just twenty years.
Found it!!
Her gaze
finally came to rest on a white Pokémon Egg
whose surface was covered in irregular sea-blue patterns.
