Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Konosuba 5

The next day, I woke up early and washed up simply at the well behind the inn. Checking, Kazuma and Aqua were still sleeping. I asked the innkeeper lady to prepare their meals and to tell them, if they looked for me, that 'I went out to the village to gather information.' Then I went far outside the walls of Axel Town. It was to practice the abilities of the Kilo Kilo Fruit.

I took out a long black umbrella from my inventory. Then, I reduced my weight and jumped as high as possible, and when I reached the highest point, I opened the umbrella. My body then began to slowly glide, carried by the wind.

"Ooh~ I'm flying~ But how do I steer this thing?"

I was moving the umbrella around in the air. But I could only go quickly or slowly in the direction the wind was blowing; changing direction wasn't easy.

I practiced for a while, but I could only move in the direction the wind was blowing. I had no choice but to close the umbrella, increase my weight to the maximum, and free-fall to the ground.

Boom!

A large crater formed from the impact where I landed, and the surroundings were a mess. Of course, I felt none of the impact.

"This is pretty useful."

I sat in the shade of a nearby tree and took a cheeseburger from my inventory to eat.

"Wow~ This cheeseburger is so delicious?"

It was the most delicious cheeseburger I had ever eaten. With taste like this, maybe it wasn't a dud after all?

While eating the burger deliciously, I thought about the Kilo Kilo Fruit.

'I think I need to approach this not as "flying" but as "floating"? Instead of jumping straight up and crashing down, I should look at the direction, give it an angle, jump up and glide, then when I see the target, free-fall and strike down.'

I brushed off my hands in the tree shade, got up, and experimented again. The target was a large rock on a hill visible in the distance. I took the umbrella again, ran towards the hill, and jumped. And when I reached the highest point again, I opened the umbrella and glided. When I reached near the rock, I closed the umbrella and struck the rock with my maximum weight.

Boom!

There was a loud sound, but the rock didn't shatter much.

"Ah! The hill is high, so I couldn't get much gravity effect. I have to consider height too..."

Then a good idea came to me.

"Wait, do I always need to jump high? What if I utilize weight in my strikes?"

It's not necessarily bad to use it exactly like Mikita, but there's no need to be stubborn about it. So I thought, 'If I reduce my weight to move, and then increase it to the maximum at the moment of impact, adding my strength to the weight, wouldn't that give higher destructive power?'

I immediately went down the hill, made my body light, and then quickly ran up the hill towards the rock. Being light, I gained tremendous speed. And when I reached the rock, I instantly increased my weight and threw a kick with a shout.

"Hyaap~!"

Slam!

With a loud sound, the rock I struck shattered completely into fragments.

"Oh! If I practice this, I can use it in all kinds of strikes, right?"

Enjoying the unexpectedly high destructive power, I excitedly destroyed nearby trees and rocks until suddenly an alarm sound rang.

Ding~!

[[(F)Martial Arts] acquired.]

[Event: You have acquired an ability directly for the first time. 5000 points]

"Nice! So if the requirements are met, you can just acquire an ability."

I clicked on Martial Arts.

[(F)Martial Arts]

Knows how to throw a punch.

"Huh? Is that the whole description? 'Knows how to throw a punch'... Is it because it's F-rank?"

Putting the question aside, I decided to save the points I got for now. Looking at the sky, the sun was high, so I decided to head back.

Arriving at the inn, Kazuma and Aqua were having a meal.

"Cassian, you're back?"

"Cassian, have you eaten?"

These guys! They slept until this time and just got up to eat, it seems. They don't seem to have any sense of crisis about being dropped into this world. I felt momentarily angry and thought of saying something, but held back and spoke with a smile.

"Did you just wake up now?"

"Yeah, yesterday had a lot going on, so I was tired... Hahahat."

I sat down in front of Kazuma and the others for now. Then, with a serious expression, I rested my chin on my hand and spoke.

"Hey, we have a big problem."

"Huh? What problem?"

"It's about us. We're out of money now."

"Ehhhhhhh~~~!?"

Kazuma and Aqua responded with exclamations of surprise. Of course, I had plenty of reserve funds, but I had no intention of saying that.

"We have enough funds to stay one more night, but that's it. There's no more after that."

Then Aqua, as if she had a good idea, suddenly stood up with a bright expression and spoke.

"Then let's sell Kazuma's clothes this time!"

Kazuma got angry, slammed the table, and stood up.

"Don't be ridiculous! The only item holding memories of my home is something I can't sell!"

"We have no choice. We have no money."

I listened quietly, then got a headache and put my hand on my forehead.

"Hey, don't you guys have any thoughts of earning money in your heads?"

"Ah~ that... Ahahahat."

I sighed and continued.

"We have no initial funds now, so we can't buy equipment and can't hunt. But luckily, this town interacts with many regions, so jobs are overflowing. So let's look for jobs today and start working from tomorrow." "Oh! Wait a moment."

I went up to my room, took Enma from my inventory, brought it down, and started the story I had thought of.

"This was given to me by an adventurer who was active in the Royal Capital, saying he couldn't use it. They say it's a sword that eats people?"

"Then isn't it dangerous?"

"But we have Aqua. So if any problem occurs when I draw this sword, Aqua, help me a bit with your Arch Priest skills."

Aqua suddenly struck a proud pose.

"Ahem! It seems it's time for this Aqua to step up! Just trust me~"

I took Kazuma and Aqua and moved to a wide open space outside the town.

"Okay~ I'm drawing it."

Kazuma and Aqua watched, swallowing hard. I was worried too, but without a weapon, I had to use this one, so there was no choice. I slowly drew Enma from its scabbard.

I felt something being *sucked* out from inside my body. Luckily, it felt like mana. Even so, the amount leaving was not trivial; it seemed it would be hard to maintain for long.

"Ghh..."

"Cassian! Are you okay?"

As I groaned, sweating cold sweat, Kazuma and Aqua approached, seeming worried, but I stopped them with a hand gesture. Because I could feel the mana leaving me accumulating in Enma. I swung Enma at a large rock in front of me.

Shiing!

The rock split cleanly, like tofu.

"Wooow~~!" "Wooow~~!"

Kazuma and Aqua opened their mouths wide in amazement. I immediately sheathed Enma and sighed.

"Phew... It seems this sword forcibly sucks mana to create cutting power. It's lucky I have a lot of mana; an ordinary person would dry up and die, right?"

"Then it's a complete demon sword! No, it's a katana, so a cursed sword?"

"I guess... So it's better if you guys are careful not to touch it recklessly from now on."

"Got it."

It was a relief that the Enma matter was resolved for now.

We rested a bit and then went back into town.

"Alright, alright~ Now let's each find a job."

"Oh~!"

'Luckily, their fighting spirit is overflowing.'

We each scattered and began looking for jobs.
