POV: KAELIS DRAYDEN
Timeline: One year after the wedding
Location: Tidelands Palace - Private Chambers
One year since the wedding. One year since we became married. One year since everything CHANGED.
And what a year it's been.
I'm standing on the balcony of our chambers—mine and Nyx's. Looking out over the Tidelands. Watching the sunset paint everything gold and pink.
Behind me, Nyx is reviewing diplomatic correspondence. Never stops working. Even on our anniversary.
"You're doing it again," I say without turning.
"Doing what?"
"Working when you should be relaxing."
"I'm a god. I don't need to relax."
"You're MY god. And I say you need to relax." I turn. Walk over. Take the papers from his hands. "It's our ANNIVERSARY. No work. That's the rule."
He sighs. But he's smiling. "Fine. No work. What should we do instead?"
"I have ideas." I pull him toward the balcony. "But first, look."
We stand together. Watching the sunset. His arm around me. My head on his shoulder.
"It's been a good year," he says quietly.
"The BEST year." I think about everything. "Arventis is stable. Nocterra is thriving. The Tidelands are peaceful. All three kingdoms working together. Trading. Supporting each other."
"The Unified Kingdoms," Nyx says. "That's what they're calling it. Three realms. One alliance. Because of what you and Kieran built."
"What WE built. All four of us."
"Fair."
I reach through the twin bond. Check on Kieran. He's in Nocterra. Also celebrating his anniversary with Ravion. Also happy.
Hey twin. Happy anniversary.
Happy anniversary. Can you believe it's been a year?
Barely. Feels like yesterday and forever ago at the same time.
Exactly. How's married life treating you?
Perfect. Amazing. Everything I never knew I wanted. You?
Same. Nyx is still overprotective and annoying and I love him desperately.
Ravion is still dramatic and possessive and I wouldn't change a thing.
We did good, didn't we? Finding them. Choosing them. Building this.
We did GREAT. Best decision of our lives.
Second best. FIRST best was finding each other.
...Yeah. That's first.
Love you, twin.
Love you too.
I close the bond connection gently. Return my full attention to Nyx.
"Kieran says hi."
"Tell him I say congratulations on surviving a year with Ravion."
"I'll tell him you said happy anniversary."
"That works too."
We're quiet for a moment. Just existing together.
"Kaelis?"
"Mm?"
"Do you ever regret it? Giving up running? Settling down? Becoming... domestic?"
I think about it. Really think.
"No," I say finally. "I thought I would. Thought I'd feel trapped. Caged. But I don't. Because this isn't a CAGE. It's a HOME. A choice I make every day. To stay. To build. To LOVE."
"Good." He kisses my temple. "Because you're stuck with me. Forever. Literal forever. I'm immortal."
"I know. It's honestly terrifying."
"You'll age. I won't. Eventually—"
"Eventually we'll figure it out. Maybe you can make me immortal too. Maybe we'll find a way. Or maybe—" I turn to face him fully. "—maybe we'll just love each other as long as we can and make every moment COUNT."
"You've become philosophical in your old age."
"I'm TWENTY-THREE. That's not OLD."
"For a human? Practically ancient."
I swat him. He catches my hand. Kisses it.
"I love you," he says. Seriously now. "More than oceans. More than tides. More than EXISTENCE. You're my everything, Kaelis. My choice. My PERSON."
"I love you too." I pull him close. "My impossible god. My overprotective disaster. My HOME."
We kiss.
Below, the Tidelands glow with bioluminescent plankton. Responding to Nyx's emotions. To our LOVE.
In the distance, I can see ships. Trading vessels moving between kingdoms. Proof of the peace we built. The alliances we forged.
Proof that everything we survived—the kidnapping, the torture, the battles, the TRIAL—was WORTH IT.
Because we're here. We're HAPPY.
The runaway prince found his home.
The chaos twin found his purpose.
And the impossible love story?
It became reality.
Later that night, in Nocterra...
KIERAN'S POV:
"Stop fidgeting."
"I'm not fidgeting."
"You're absolutely fidgeting." Ravion pulls me back against his chest. We're in our private chambers. In bed. Just existing together. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. Everything's RIGHT. That's what's weird." I turn to look at him. "A year ago, I was a directionless college student from 2025. No purpose. No family. No HOME. And now..."
"Now?"
"Now I'm a KING. I have a husband. I have a TWIN. " I pause. "It's just... sometimes I wake up and think it's a dream. That I'll open my eyes and be back in 2025. Alone. And none of this will be real."
"It's real." He takes my hand. Places it over his heart. "Feel that? This is real.."
"I know. Logically I know. But emotionally—"
"Emotionally you're still processing everything. That's normal. That's HUMAN." He kisses me gently. "You're allowed to be overwhelmed. Allowed to need reassurance. Allowed to be SCARED that it'll all disappear."
"But it won't?"
"It won't. I'm not going anywhere. Kaelis isn't going anywhere. This LIFE isn't going anywhere." He pulls me closer. "You're stuck with us. With ME. Forever. No escape clause. No time travel back door. You're MINE."
"Possessive much?"
"Always. It's part of my charm."
"It really isn't."
"You married me anyway."
"Worst decision of my life."
"Best decision of your life."
"...Yeah. Best decision."
We lie there. Comfortable. SAFE.
Through the twin bond, I feel Kaelis.
And beside me, Ravion.
This is my life now.
And I wouldn't change a single thing.
Meanwhile, in a secure Void Prison between dimensions...
ISOLDE'S POV (Brief)
The cell is small. Dark. Empty.
No magic. No power. No ESCAPE.
Just me. And my thoughts. And the weight of everything I DID.
They visit sometimes. The twins. Together. Checking that I'm still contained.
They don't gloat. Don't mock. Just... look at me. Then leave.
Like I'm not worth their HATRED anymore.
Somehow that's worse than anything.
I had POWER. Had PLANS. Had a VISION.
And I lost it all because I couldn't understand what they had.
LOVE. Connection. FAMILY.
Things I thought were WEAKNESSES.
Things that turned out to be their greatest STRENGTHS.
I was wrong.
About everything.
And now I have eternity to THINK about how wrong I was.
The worst punishment imaginable.
Not death. Not pain.
Just... time. And awareness. And REGRET.
Back in the Tidelands - Final Scene
KAELIS' POV - THE VERY END
Morning comes.
I wake up wrapped in Nyx's arms. Safe. Warm. HOME.
Through the twin bond, I feel Kieran waking too. In Nocterra. With Ravion. Equally safe. Equally loved.
Morning, twin.
Morning. Sleep well?
The best. You?
Same. What's the plan today?
Ruling kingdoms. Loving our husbands. The usual.
Sounds perfect.
It really does.
I close the bond gently. Snuggle deeper into Nyx's embrace.
He stirs. "Morning."
"Morning." I kiss his jaw. "Ready to start another day of ruling the world?"
"With you? Always."
We get up. Get dressed. Face whatever the day brings.
Because that's what we do now. Face things. Together. All four of us.
The runaway prince who found his home.
The time traveler who found his purpose.
The sea god who found his love.
The dark king who found his light.
FAMILY. But by CHOICE.
The BEST kind of family.
And this?
This is our HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
