Chapter 66 - THE TRIAL - DAY TWO [TWIN TESTIMONY]

POV: DUAL (KAELIS ↔ KIERAN)

Timeline: Trial Day Two

Location: Crystal Amphitheater

KAELIS' POV

Dawn breaks over the Crystal Amphitheater.

Day two. The day Kieran and I testify together.

The day we show everyone what the prophecy REALLY created.

The amphitheater fills quickly. Even MORE people than yesterday. Word spread. Everyone wants to see the twins testify.

Isolde is brought in. Still bound. Still void-touched. But now she's watching us. REALLY watching us.

She knows something's coming.

Thelonius stands. "The court recognizes day two of proceedings. The prosecution may continue."

Ravion stands. "Your Honor. The prosecution calls a joint testimony. Prince Kaelis Drayden and Prince Kieran Solis."

Murmurs. This is unusual. Joint testimonies are rare.

"Approach," Thelonius says.

Kieran and I walk to the witness stand. There's only one seat.

We don't sit. We stand. Side by side. Hands clasped.

The twin bond PULSES between us. Visible to anyone with magical sight. Silver threads connecting us.

"State your names," Thelonius says.

"Kaelis Drayden," I say.

"Kieran Solis," Kieran adds.

"And your relationship?"

"Twins," we say together. In perfect synchronization. "Sons of Queen Seraphina and King Aldric. Born under bleeding stars. The prophecy made manifest."

The crowd leans forward.

Ravion approaches. "Princes. Please describe for the court what the prophecy actually IS. What it MEANS."

Kieran starts: "The prophecy said twin princes born under bleeding stars would have ultimate power. Power to shape kingdoms. To change the world."

I continue: "Queen Isolde believed that power could be taken. Stolen. Transferred to her through ritual and sacrifice."

"But she was wrong," Kieran says.

"The prophecy isn't about power," I finish. "It's about CONNECTION. About two halves of one soul finding each other. Completing each other."

We look at each other. The bond FLARES.

"Show them," Ravion says quietly.

We nod. Turn to face the amphitheater.

And we OPEN the bond.

Fully. Completely. Letting everyone with magical sight SEE.

The silver threads between us EXPLODE with light. Expanding. Forming patterns. Sacred geometry. The visual representation of twin souls united.

Water and shadow magic swirl around us. Responding to our combined will. Creating constructs. Creatures. Beautiful impossible things.

The crowd GASPS.

"This," we say together, voices harmonizing, "is what she tried to destroy. This is what she FEARED. Not just power. But LOVE. Connection. Family. Things she could never understand. Never control. Never HAVE."

The magic settles. The light fades. We're just two boys again. Two twins holding hands.

But everyone saw. Everyone FELT.

"She separated us," Kieran says. "Threw me away. Raised Kaelis in lies."

"But we found each other anyway," I add. "Because the bond is STRONGER than her manipulation. Stronger than time. Stronger than DEATH."

"She tried to make us weapons," Kieran continues.

"But we chose to be FAMILY," I finish.

Silence.

Then someone in the crowd starts clapping.

Then another.

Standing ovation. For us. For the truth. For the POWER of what we represent.

"ORDER!" Thelonius calls. But even he looks moved. "The defense may cross-examine."

Marlowe stands slowly. He looks... defeated. Because how do you cross-examine THAT?

"No questions, Your Honor."

Smart. Because any question would just give us more opportunity to demonstrate our bond.

"The prosecution calls Queen Isolde Drayden."

Oh. OH.

They're making her testify. Making her defend herself.

This is going to be BRUTAL.

KIERAN'S POV

Isolde stands. Walks to the witness stand.

But she's smiling.

That smile terrifies me.

"Queen Isolde," Ravion begins. "Do you admit to murdering Queen Seraphina?"

"Yes."

UPROAR. Even though we all knew it, hearing her ADMIT it—

"Do you admit to murdering King Aldric?"

"Yes."

More chaos.

"Do you admit to attempting to murder Prince Kieran through slow-acting poison?"

"Yes."

"Do you admit to orchestrating the kidnapping, torture, and attempted sacrifice of both princes for the purpose of stealing their prophesied power?"

"Yes." She's still smiling. "I admit to all of it."

Ravion looks shocked. This is too easy. She's supposed to DENY. Supposed to FIGHT.

"Why?" he asks. "Why admit to everything?"

"Because I'm not ashamed." Isolde looks at the crowd. At us. At EVERYONE. "I did what was NECESSARY. What any rational person would do when faced with that much power."

"Necessary?" Kaelis spits from beside me. "You MURDERED—"

"I eliminated threats," Isolde interrupts calmly. "Seraphina would have been a weak queen. Too gentle. Too kind. She would have let the prophecy run wild. Let those boys grow unchecked. Uncontrolled."

"They're PEOPLE!" I shout. "Not—not THINGS to be controlled!"

"They're WEAPONS." She looks directly at me. "You don't understand yet. But you will. That power you demonstrated? That bond? It's DANGEROUS. World-ending dangerous. And someone had to control it."

"So you decided YOU should control it," Ravion says coldly.

"Of course. I was the only one strong enough. Smart enough. RUTHLESS enough." She leans forward. "And I would have succeeded if you hadn't interfered."

"You would have killed us," Kaelis says.

"I would have SAVED THE WORLD from you." Isolde's eyes blaze. "That prophecy isn't a blessing. It's a CURSE. Twin power like yours—unstable, emotional, CHAOTIC—it'll destroy everything eventually. I was trying to prevent that."

"By murdering children," I say flatly.

"By making hard choices." She sits back. "But you're all too soft to understand."

"And you're too monstrous to be human anymore," Ravion says.

"Perhaps." She smiles. "But at least I'm honest about what I am. Can you say the same?"

The questioning continues. Back and forth. Isolde admitting to everything. Justifying everything. Showing absolutely no remorse.

By the end, even her defender looks sick.

"The prosecution rests," Ravion finally says.

"The defense calls—" Marlowe starts.

"The defense rests," Isolde interrupts. "I'm done performing for you people."

Marlowe looks stunned. "Your Majesty, I can still—"

"I said we're DONE." Isolde looks at Thelonius. "Render your verdict. I don't care anymore."

Thelonius looks troubled. "Very well. The court will deliberate. We reconvene in one hour for the verdict."

One hour later.

The amphitheater is packed.

Thelonius stands. "The court has reached its verdict."

Everyone holds their breath.

"On all counts—murder, attempted murder, treason, conspiracy, and crimes against the natural order—we find the accused GUILTY."

"The sentence is as follows: Queen Isolde Drayden is hereby stripped of all titles, lands, and honors. She is sentenced to life imprisonment in the Void Prison—a specially constructed facility existing between dimensions, where void-magic users cannot access their powers."

A Void Prison. They're building one specifically for her. Where she can't escape. Can't use the powers she learned in dimensional space.

Perfect prison.

"She will remain there until natural death. No parole. No exceptions. This is the judgment of the council of kingdoms."

The gavel falls.

It's over.

Isolde is led away. Still smiling. Still unrepentant.

But GONE.

Kaelis collapses into Nyx's arms. Relief flooding through the twin bond.

I do the same with Ravion.

"It's over," I whisper.

"It's over," he confirms.
