Chapter 94 - Hiyori Shiina: Am I Special? (Bonus Chapter)

"All right, let's talk again next time."

Watching the somewhat aloof Subaru depart, Miyabi Nagumo maintained a faintly indifferent smile on his face.

As the currently most outstanding student in the first year, Nagumo could very well understand having a bit of arrogance. Or rather, it was precisely taming such students who held arrogance in their hearts that gave Nagumo a slight sense of accomplishment.

"Nagumo~"

A girl beside Nagumo, seeing that he had finished his conversation with Subaru, spoke with a trace of curiosity, "You seem to be paying a lot of attention to that student named Natsuki Subaru."

"Hehe, just a little bit."

"After all, it really is a bit too boring within this academy."

Hearing the girl's inquiry, Nagumo chuckled lightly and said, "The only one in the third year who makes me take them somewhat seriously is Manabu Horikita-senpai. But this is the final year; next year, Horikita-senpai will graduate."

Upon hearing Nagumo's answer, the girl beside him revealed a look of realization.

Nagumo had spent less than a year leading his own class to successfully counterattack the then Class A of the first year before the year ended, thoroughly taking control of the entire grade. With no opponents left in his own grade, Nagumo naturally had to set his sights on other grades.

And as Nagumo's guide, the leader of Year 3, Class A, and the current Student Council President, Manabu Horikita, was naturally the opponent Nagumo took seriously.

However, the third year was the final year. Manabu Horikita would graduate next year. To ensure this final year wouldn't be too boring, and because he had some ideas of his own, Nagumo prepared to support a proxy in the first year who would carry out his will.

Before this proxy could carry out his will, he could tentatively consider it an attempt to cultivate an opponent worthy of his serious attention. Currently, in Nagumo's eyes, Subaru possessed the potential to become his opponent.

"So that's it. So Nagumo, you've already thought that far ahead~"

The other girl spoke at this moment with a tone slightly laced with flattery.

"Um, Nagumo~"

"About the personal points..."

"Come to my dormitory tonight."

Looking at the two girls who revealed shy expressions on their faces, Nagumo smiled with understanding and said, "There is no problem at all regarding personal points..."

As an existence who thoroughly ruled an entire grade, Nagumo had long since achieved freedom regarding personal points. within the second year, he was practically no different from a local emperor.

The two girls accompanying Nagumo now were attached to him precisely because of their relationship with personal points.

The Library.

Sitting opposite Hiyori Shiina, Subaru read a book while thinking about the events that had occurred today.

Arisu Sakayanagi, Kakeru Ryuen, and a Miyabi Nagumo who had popped out from who knows where. One by one, as if they had caught a scent, they recklessly gathered around him.

'Year 1, Class D has quieted down a bit.'

'But the factors outside the class seem to have suddenly become slightly troublesome.'

'Should I repeat what happened in Year 1, Class D with Year 1, Class C?'

Subaru was considering this matter. To truly avoid trouble, acting like a turtle retracting its head—pretending that everything happening around him or in his vicinity hadn't occurred, or even pretending not to see it—was definitely not an option.

As a genuine Japanese person, Subaru was very clear that such inaction would only allow matters to develop in the worst direction constantly. Remaining silent would only invite even more vicious bullying upon himself.

However, the current problem was that Year 1, Class C was different from the previous Haruki Yamauchi.

Haruki Yamauchi could basically be said to represent only himself; he was an individual. But today, Daichi Ishizaki represented the collective, the entire Year 1, Class C. To get Haruki Yamauchi expelled was very simple; taking out a few personal points was enough.

But if he wanted to get some people from Year 1, Class C expelled, then it wouldn't be that simple.

It was like if Subaru copied the method used on Haruki Yamauchi to operate against a certain student with poor grades in Year 1, Class C. Even if they were truly just like Haruki Yamauchi, it was impossible for Kakeru Ryuen to do nothing. Year 1, Class C was not like Year 1, Class D; they had almost no reserves of personal points.

With Haruki Yamauchi as a warning lesson from the past, basically everyone's grades would be pulled up a bit, fearing that one time, like Haruki Yamauchi, their points would be bought out by someone, leading to failure and expulsion. The final result of this would likely be the need to pay a much greater price.

Furthermore, Kakeru Ryuen could not sit idly by. Even if just for the sake of class cohesion, he would do his utmost to obstruct Subaru's actions.

All in all, it might be better to directly take out twenty million personal points and designate someone from Year 1, Class C to be expelled.

"Subaru, your expression seems a bit off today."

"Did something happen just now?"

Hiyori Shiina looked at Subaru, who seemed somewhat absent-minded, with a bit of novelty.

Usually, Subaru's expression basically wouldn't undergo any obvious changes. It was basically that very formulaic expression. At most, occasionally when speaking with her, the smile on his face would be slightly more sincere. She had basically never encountered a situation like now, where Subaru was obviously thinking about something.

"Is it that obvious?"

Hearing Hiyori's words, Subaru was slightly stunned.

"It's not exactly very obvious."

Looking at Subaru's gaze which was clearly somewhat surprised, Hiyori also smiled gently and said, "I just have a slight feeling that you are thinking about something, Subaru."

"It's not really a big deal."

"It's just that troublesome matters have been slightly numerous recently. I'm thinking about how to make the troublesome matters slightly fewer."

There was nothing really to hide.

Subaru briefly told Hiyori about what happened at noon: the probing by Daichi Ishizaki's trio, the chance encounter with Student Council Vice President Miyabi Nagumo on the road, and Nagumo's invitation to him. As well as his own thoughts on preparing to do something to make the trouble slightly less.

"Ryuen's idea should be that he wants to see your reaction, Subaru."

"Because of the massive amount of points on you, Subaru, and some of your previous behaviors..."

Although Hiyori did not want to confuse the relationship between the collective and the private individual, many times, the collective and the private were inherently closely connected relationships that could not be escaped.

Hiyori would not tell Subaru, a person from Class D, about some intelligence or general directions of Year 1, Class C. However, Hiyori also couldn't just watch Kakeru Ryuen use some relatively extreme, underhanded methods to target Subaru.

As a member of Year 1, Class C, although Hiyori had not been directly targeted by Ryuen—and due to Ryuen's gender, it was almost impossible for him to target girls—as a bystander, Hiyori was also very clear on exactly what means Ryuen used to subdue Year 1, Class C.

If there were no major accidents, there was a high probability Ryuen would still use similar means to fix Subaru. This was absolutely unacceptable.

Because if that happened, it couldn't be counted as fair competition, but would rise to the scope of bullying. Hiyori could absolutely not watch her friend be bullied, even if such behavior would make it difficult for her to move a single step within the class, or even cause her to become a new target of bullying herself.

"Subaru, there is a large number of surveillance cameras in this academy. You should know that, right?"

Thinking of this, Hiyori's expression became somewhat serious.

"Mm."

"Dead angles are almost non-existent."

Subaru heard Hiyori's words and nodded with a smile, saying, "If not for these cameras and this island that counts as cut off from the rest of the world... if we were outside, many things wouldn't become this troublesome."

If the range wasn't restricted so tightly, and if there weren't cameras everywhere... Even if there were occasionally some dead angles that cameras couldn't capture, heading to those dead angles would inevitably have one's tracks captured on the way there. Subaru wouldn't have gone to such great lengths, circling around several times, to get Haruki Yamauchi expelled.

Just fighting in a dead angle where cameras couldn't capture—even if the fight was slightly severe—the school wouldn't pay much attention. As long as the injuries were recoverable and wouldn't leave lifelong disabilities, it could all be settled within the dead angle.

But under normal circumstances, Subaru wasn't that bored.

At least, Haruki Yamauchi hadn't reached the standard to make Subaru do some boring things. compared to simply teaching Haruki Yamauchi a lesson or something, what Subaru wanted more was for Haruki Yamauchi to disappear completely—that is, within the school.

Ultimately, it was just a compromise to have Haruki Yamauchi expelled, disappearing from inside the school.

In the outside world, Subaru could casually arrange a 'disappearance' for Haruki Yamauchi, making him vanish completely. Here in Japan, the case-solving rate had always been not that high.

Let alone the fact that Subaru possessed the ability to 'rollback' to check for leaks and fill gaps in his previous actions; even if he didn't, with Subaru's current abilities, creating a cold case that the police wouldn't be willing to investigate deeply was a very simple matter.

"As long as you don't go to those dead angles, the areas without surveillance, then there won't be any issues."

The 'trouble' Hiyori understood and the 'trouble' Subaru understood were not the same.

"Ryuen and the others won't really do anything to you in a public setting, Subaru."

"At most, it will be like today, sitting next to you, Subaru, with a look of ill-intentioned provocation."

Looking at Subaru, Hiyori analyzed slightly: "Even if Ishizaki had knocked over your lunch at that time, Subaru, even if he just touched it a little, you could have reported it to the school, Subaru, and deducted Class C's class points."

"In fact, not only would class points be deducted, but they would also have to compensate you with an identical lunch, Subaru."

A matter similar to what happened to Subaru at noon today had already occurred once to Year 1, Class B around the end of the month just after enrollment.

At that time, it was also the trio of Daichi Ishizaki, Komiya Kyogo, and Kondo. And the target was the vice monitor of Year 1, Class B, Ryuji Kanzaki.

Originally, they wanted to set the target on the Year 1 Class B monitor, Honami Ichinose, but Ichinose was a girl after all. Being boys, Daichi Ishizaki and the others were indeed tied up and found it hard to operate. So they settled for the next best thing and placed the target on Ryuji Kanzaki, the vice monitor.

The final result was also different from what Subaru encountered today.

Daichi Ishizaki successfully knocked over Ryuji Kanzaki's lunch, angering him. Then, in the end, Year 1, Class B and Year 1, Class C each received 'fifty strokes of the board,' having unequal amounts of class points deducted respectively.

At that time, after knocking over Ryuji Kanzaki's lunch, Daichi Ishizaki apologized to him with a provocative smile and tone, and purchased a re-ordered identical lunch to compensate him. It was just that Ryuji Kanzaki was provoked to anger and actively initiated physical contact.

Ultimately, because Ishizaki's side performed very thoroughly—only his expression and tone were somewhat off—Year 1, Class B was deducted twenty class points, while Year 1, Class C was merely deducted ten class points.

"Eh?"

"It's actually like that?"

After hearing Hiyori's explanation, Subaru smiled gently and didn't say much more.

Hiyori's policy lay mainly in coping with shifting events by sticking to a fundamental principle. As long as Subaru revealed no openings and didn't go to places in the school where surveillance couldn't capture, then no matter how much Kakeru Ryuen wanted to target Subaru, it would be impossible for him to have any method.

For a normal person, Hiyori's suggestion could be said to be quite pertinent. However, Hiyori had never witnessed the true Subaru up to now.

So she simply didn't know what the 'solving trouble' in Subaru's mouth actually meant. In the end, this method of Hiyori's simply couldn't reduce the frequency of any trouble. It was just praying—praying that the people looking for trouble would find it boring after a long time and eventually give up on troubling him.

Subaru definitely couldn't consider such a thing.

"However, my patience might not be as good as you imagine, Hiyori."

"Towards some people who lack special elements, my patience has always been very lacking."

Subaru looked at the earnest-faced Hiyori, a smile on his face—a smile that was not formulaic.

"Eh?"

"Is that so?"

Hiyori was stunned.

Based on Hiyori's own feelings from getting along with Subaru, although Subaru couldn't be called the type of person with a lot of patience, he couldn't be said to have no patience at all either.

Or could it be...

In Subaru's eyes, was she a person who possessed those special elements

Thinking of this, Hiyori's face flushed slightly red.

"However, since the Vice President of the Student Council invited you to join, Subaru, becoming a member of the Student Council might be a nice choice."

She felt her heart beat slightly accelerate.

Which young girl didn't yearn for romance? Even Hiyori wasn't without fantasies of such a day. Hiyori hurriedly suppressed the thoughts in her heart and changed the subject, saying: "If you become a member of the Student Council, Ryuen and the others probably won't target you anymore."
