That night, the atmosphere around the outskirts of the Binatara campus felt tense. The path, usually only used by students returning home late, now seemed silent and dimly lit.
Zevanya stood in the darkness behind a row of towering mahogany trees. Her breathing was steady, but her sharp eyes were fixed on a single point ahead.
Under the dim glow of the streetlight, she saw Amora. The girl who always looked perfect was now in a very vulnerable position. Two strange men, acting suspiciously, seemed to be cornering Amora against an old fence.
One of the men began to act impudently, reaching out to touch Amora's cheek while the other laughed lowly, menacingly. Amora's body trembled violently, her hands clutching her backpack to her chest as her only shield.
Zevanya saw it all. She saw the pure fear in Amora's eyes, she heard the muffled sobs that pierced the night air. Yet, Zevanya didn't move an inch. She didn't scream, didn't call the police, didn't even show a flicker of empathy on her face.
He simply stood there, his gaze blank, as flat as the horizon, devoid of any movement. To him, the scene was merely a fragment of life passing by—or perhaps, a silent revenge he enjoyed expressionlessly.
The silence was shattered when the roar of a powerful engine cut through the night. The bright beam of headlights cut through the darkness, forcing the two harassers to close their eyes in the glare. A flashy red Spider stopped right in the middle of the road with a sharp screech of tires. It was Mathius' car.
Without turning off the engine, Mathius jumped out. His usually calm face was now a mask of utter rage. The two men, realizing they were no match for the man's fury, quickly fled into a narrow, dark alley.
Zevanya remained where she was, silently watching from a distance. She watched Mathius run toward Amora. He held her hands protectively, checking every inch for any lingering wounds. They spoke for a moment in an emotional tone; Mathius seemed to be scolding himself for being late, while Amora could only shake her head weakly with trembling lips.
Soon, Amora's defenses crumbled. She threw herself into Mathius's embrace, burying her face in his jacket and sobbing uncontrollably. Mathius held her so tightly, it was as if he could absorb all of Amora's fear into his own.
Under the still-bright glare of the Spider's red headlights, the moment looked like a dramatic scene from a movie—full of love, heroism, and vulnerability.
From a safe distance, Zevanya maintained her impassive expression. There was no guilt for letting Amora nearly get hurt, nor was there any overwhelming jealousy. She simply stared coldly at the embrace, aware of the stark contrast between the warmth before her and the emptiness she had harbored within herself.
Zevanya then slowly turned and walked away into the even deeper darkness, leaving Mathius and Amora still consumed by emotion on the deserted streets of Binatara at the end of 2025.
