Chapter 1 - When Heaven and Hell Dial the Wrong Number

Baek Siheon woke up facedown on cold asphalt.

That wasn't unusual.

Waking up to two glowing screens floating in front of his face?

Yes. That was new.

One screen shined gold—soft, warm, divine.

The other pulsed red—sharp, chaotic, and uncomfortably enthusiastic.

[HEAVEN SYSTEM BOOTING…]

A peaceful, emotionless voice echoed in his ears.

[YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN AS HEAVEN'S TEMPORARY VESSEL.]

Then the red screen lit up violently.

[HELL CONTRACT INITIALIZING.]

A deeper voice hissed.

[YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS OUR PERMANENT HOST. CONGRATULATIONS, DARLING.]

Siheon blinked. "What? Temporary for Heaven, permanent for Hell? Can I get a refund?"

Both voices spoke over each other.

Heaven: [Do not speak to the Contract. It spreads corruption.]

Hell: [Ignore the System. It's boring, judgmental, and hates fun.]

"This is a scam," Siheon muttered.

---

Somewhere across the street…

A woman in a long black coat crouched behind a bus stop sign, whispering urgently into a communicator.

"Target spotted," she said. Her accent was crisp, elegant British.

"Subject is showing signs of supernatural resonance. Possibly demonic."

Her name was Seraphina Aldridge, elite demon-hunter investigator from the European Underworld Containment Bureau.

To her, the glowing screens around Siheon looked like demonic sigils burning on his soul.

She narrowed her eyes.

"He's definitely dangerous."

---

Siheon sat up—straight into a fireball.

A red rune exploded next to him.

He screamed.

Hell laughed.

Heaven sighed.

[HELL CONTRACT QUEST AVAILABLE:

MURDER THE NEAREST ANGEL FOR A REWARD!]

"What?! No!"

Heaven's screen flashed.

[HEAVEN SYSTEM QUEST ISSUED:

STOP HELL'S OBJECTIVE.

REWARD: BASIC GRACE + AVOIDANCE OF DAMNATION.]

"I—I didn't even accept anything!"

Hell: [Oh, sweet host, you already did. By being unconscious. That counts.]

Heaven: [Hell's fine print is ethically questionable. Ignore it.]

"Ethically questionable?! It tried to explode me!"

---

Seraphina stepped out of hiding.

Her heels clicked sharply against the pavement.

Moonlight hit her silver hair.

She had the aura of someone who killed demons before breakfast.

She aimed a cross-shaped weapon at him—a holy firearm glowing with blue runes.

"You there," she said, voice cold and royal. "Step away from the circle."

Siheon froze.

"Uh… what circle?"

She nodded toward the gold and red screens floating around him.

"That one."

He groaned. "I'm not a demon."

She gave him a long stare.

The kind people give when they very clearly think you are a demon.

"Possessed, then."

"I'm not— I don't— I JUST WOKE UP!"

---

Hell whispered in Siheon's ear:

[Oh she's cute. You should flirt.]

"NO."

He accidentally shouted it at Seraphina.

She stiffened, offended.

"I beg your pardon?"

"No, no—not you! I was talking to—"

Heaven: [Do not reveal our existence.]

Hell: [Tell her everything. She looks fun.]

Siheon sputtered helplessly.

"I WAS TALKING TO NOBODY."

Seraphina narrowed her eyes.

"That's exactly what possessed people say."

She loaded her weapon with heavenly energy.

---

Heaven suddenly fired a notification:

[WARNING. HOST IN IMMINENT DANGER. ACTIVATING DEFENSIVE MIRACLE.]

A circle of golden light wrapped around Siheon.

Hell laughed.

[Look at you, wrapped like a holy burrito.]

"STOP COMMENTING!"

Seraphina's eyes widened at the sudden light.

"Heavenly magic…? But corrupted with infernal energy—"

She took a step back. "What ARE you?"

Siheon threw his hands up.

"I don't know!"

---

A tear in the air opened behind him.

A ripple of frost.

A crack of red lightning.

Something monstrous began pulling itself out of the dimensional breach.

A demon—no, a Hell Guardian Beast, which only appeared when someone had a contract.

Siheon stumbled back.

The beast lunged—

And the Heaven System and Hell Contract spoke in unison:

[HOST IN PERIL. AUTHORIZING COMBINED PROTOCOL.]

A blast of gold-red energy erupted from Siheon's body—

obliterating the demon

shattering the pavement

and sending shockwaves through the street.

Seraphina shielded her face, stunned.

Siheon stood in the center of the destruction, trembling.

He looked at his hands.

"What… did I just do?"

The Heaven System beeped calmly.

[UNPLANNED OVERPOWERED FUSION SKILL ACTIVATED.]

Hell added cheerfully:

[And you haven't even signed the main contract yet.]

Seraphina stepped forward, eyes wide, aura sharp with fear and fascination.

Her voice trembled, just slightly.

"Baek Siheon… whatever you are…"

She raised her weapon again.

"I'm not letting you walk away."

Siheon swallowed.

"I didn't walk away the first time!"
