Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 — Axel

Hasse Research Center, Lumi Town — Kalos Region

"Dad! Daaad! Pleeease! Just once!"

Inside the Hasse Research Center, Draven Hasse pretended to focus on the fossil fragments spread across his desk. But ignoring a four-year-old who had infinite stamina and a mission was impossible.

Axel tugged on his sleeve, then his coat, then his hair.

"Dad, you promised! If I behaved, I could watch a real fossil resurrection. And I behaved today! Totally very much behaved!"

Draven raised an eyebrow. "You only behaved because your mother hid the dessert jars."

Axel froze—caught—then quickly straightened."Still counts!"

Draven sighed. "Axel, the lab is dangerous. It's not a playground."

"I'm not playing!" Axel said proudly. "I'm doing scientific observation! Like Mom!"

That was exactly the line Elara used when she wanted Draven to approve new equipment.

Draven closed his eyes. "Why am I being manipulated by my own child…?"

"Because I'm cute?" Axel asked innocently.

Draven groaned. "Fine. One resurrection. ONE. And you follow every instruction I give."

Before he could finish, Axel cheered and grabbed his hand.

"Let's go!!"

"This is a terrible idea," Draven muttered.

But he followed anyway.

Because nobody in Lumi Town could resist Axel Hasse's enthusiasm.

The Accident

The underground resurrection chamber hummed with soft energy. Machines vibrated quietly as Draven prepared the fossil.

Today's specimen was special—

A pink-tinted Amaura variant fossil, recently discovered in a glacier pocket.

"Stand right there," Draven instructed, pointing to the corner. "Don't move."

Axel zipped his lips. "I'll be good! Super good!"

Draven began the sequence. Blue energy wrapped around the half-fossil, slowly forming the shape of a baby Amaura.

But something was wrong.

Its body wasn't fully stable—only half-formed, flickering between physical and fossil state.

Draven frowned. "This shouldn't—"

The half-formed Amaura lifted its head, eyes glowing an unstable bright psychic pink.

Axel's eyes widened. "Dad…?"

"No sudden movements," Draven whispered.

But it was too late.

With a broken cry, the unstable Amaura lashed out, its psychic aura bursting uncontrollably—

FWOOOM!

A blast of psychic power slammed into Axel.

"AXEL!!"

Draven lunged toward his son, but the Amaura collapsed mid-attack, its incomplete body disintegrating into fragments.

Elara rushed into the lab, breathless. "What happened—AXEL!?"

Draven scooped the unconscious boy into his arms."We're going to the center. NOW!"

Emergency Transfer

Nurse Joy checked Axel quickly and her face tightened.

"There's residual psychic energy around him… too strong. I recommend transferring him to Professor Sycamore's Research Tower in Lumiose City. They have the proper equipment."

Without hesitation, his parents rushed him onto the next transport.

Nurse Joy watched them leave."That boy… he'll be fine. He just needs time."

Professor Sycamore's Diagnosis

Lumiose City's towering lab lights blinked softly as Professor Sycamore examined Axel.

"Hm… interesting. The psychic energy is fading. He'll wake once it clears."

Elara gripped Draven's hand tightly."He's going to be okay?"

Sycamore smiled warmly."He's strong. Give him time."

Three Days Later

Axel's eyes slowly opened.

The ceiling lights blurred into focus—and he felt… different.

His head was heavy, filled with memories that weren't his yet felt familiar.Another life. Another version of himself. It all rushed through him in a flood.

He groaned softly, holding his head.

"Axel!" Elara cried, rushing to hug him.

Draven came right after, nearly crushing him in a relieved embrace.

"You scared us half to death…"

Axel blinked up at them.Their faces, their voices… he knew them—but his mind felt older.

And his eyes—In the mirror beside the bed—A faint pink tint shimmered in them.

Professor Sycamore entered with a smile."Well, you gave us all quite a scare, young Axel."

He ran a few simple tests.

To everyone's shock, a small metal pen on the table lifted into the air, floating toward Axel's hand as if pulled by invisible strings.

Elara gasped."Psychic ability… He inherited it! Just like me!"

Draven rubbed his face."And nearly gave me a heart attack in the process."

Sycamore scribbled notes."His psychic aura is strong. Very strong. A rare case—awakened by direct psychic impact."

Axel was allowed short walks around the field.

He remembered something from his new memories—a special frog Pokémon.

But the Froakie batch hadn't been transferred into Sycamore's center yet.

"Tch… timing," he muttered under his breath like a tiny old man.

He wandered around, practicing tiny psychic pulls on leaves and stones. He also caught a short glimpse of a young boy with spiky dark hair—

Alain.

The two locked eyes for a second before Axel continued wandering.

Axel was officially discharged later that day.

Elara held his hand tightly.Draven ruffled his hair cautiously—as if Axel might suddenly explode again.

"Let's go home," Draven said softly.

Axel smiled faintly.

Home…

And a whole new journey waiting for him.
