Chapter 5 - Chapter four

Qin Yue only stopped for half a second before walking into the room. His luck was still so bad.

Ignoring the other person in the room, he went to his side and dropped the things he had bought.

Xu Wei who was being ignored didn't find it awkward to keep talking.

"Hey, are you deaf? I'm talking to you."

Qin Yue slid him a sidelong glance and he scratched his hair.

"I'm sorry."

Qin Yue arranged his things while Xu Wei kept talking.

"About what happened yesterday, my mother beat me up and I finally realized I was wrong. I shouldn't have said that to you. It's just that you look too much like my dad's illegitimate son and I couldn't resist being sarcastic. But it's clear you're nothing like him. He would never buy some cheap things."

Qin Yue paused, before resuming his movements. If it wasn't for the ernest expression in the kids eyes, Qin Yue might have thought he was being sarcastic.

Xu Wei was a straightforward person and after apologizing, he assumed there was no more bad blood between them.

"My name is Xu Wei, what's yours?"

Qin Yue still didn't answer and Xu Wei touched his nose.

The room fell silent and Qin Yue thought Xu Wei wouldn't speak any more but he suddenly spoke up.

"You're from the countryside right? What's it like? Do you guys have electricity and good roads? And is it true that you all live in huts?"

Qin Yue felt a headache coming on.

"Shut up."

This only made Xu Wei even more excited.

"Hey, you spoke. How old are you? I'm nineteen."

Seeing that Qin Yue was still ignoring him, he walked over and seeing the ID card on the table, took it.

One look at the date of birth and his mother slid open.

"No way, you're twenty-two? That's old."

Qin Yue snatched the ID and kept it with the rest of his things.

"Ever heard of personal space?"

Xu Wei grinned, unperturbed.

"Qin Yue. You have a nice name. Don't worry, you look very young. I would never have known if I didn't see your ID."

Qin Yue wanted to say he didn't care about that but in the end, he couldn't be bothered with Xu Wei.

He finished packing his things and sat on his bed, completely ignoring Xu Wei.

Xu Wei looked back at his things that weren't organized yet and sighed.

"Qin Yue, how about I pay you to help me arrange my things as well. You must be short on money right?"

He didn't mind talking to himself. He pulled a chair and sat beside Qin Yue's bed with a soft sigh.

"I know you're not going to pay attention to me but I'll just tell you anyways. I don't know what's going on in my family but I don't like it. My parents used to be very loving but all of a sudden, my mom started falling ill frequently and then my dad brought back another kid who's as old as me saying it's his son. How could I be reconciled?

My mom was away and I immediately went after her only for me to run into you. You should go do a DNA test with your parents or something. You look 70% similar to that dammed bastard and I couldn't help but say a few nasty words.

I know that's not an excuse, but I've reflected on my behavior and I am extremely sorry."

Xu Wei waited for Qin Yue to say something but he remained silent and a hint of disappointment spread in his heart.

He was about to go back to his side when a low voice from the bed stopped him.

"My parents are dead."

Xu Wei stopped.

"Ah?'

He was a bit confused as to how that connected to anything when he remembered telling Qin Yue to go for a DNA test earlier.

He chuckled dryly.

"That was just a joke. I didn't expect you to actually take it seriously. They are many people who look similar to each other in the world."

"So you knew that before taking your frustration out on me."

"Hehe, I already apologized"

"I didn't accept your apology."

Xu Wei's knowledge was refreshed.

"It can be like that?"

Qin Yue glanced at him and he relented.

"Okay, okay. What should I do to earn forgiveness?"

Qin Yue shrugged.

"Up to you."

Xu Wei sighed.

"Orientation is in a few hours. Do you want to check out the campus?"

Qin Yue shook his head.

"No thanks, I'll stay here."

After confirming Qin Yue really had no desire to go out, Xu Wei left on his own.

After he was gone, Qin Yue relaxed slightly. He wasn't petty and could tell Xu Wei's apology was sincere but he didn't want anything to do with him.

It was okay now but what if his bad luck came back and it affected Xu Wei?

But he also knew that to be able to stay roommates, they need to have a certain level of friendship or else he wouldn't have responded to any of the chatty kids words.

It was okay like this too. This was still much better than a stranger who would look down on him for conditions he had no control over.

Although it wasn't a pleasant experience, he had to admit that Xu Wei being a familiar face was quite welcome.

All he had to do now was keep the boy at arms length but not treat him too coldly as to chase him away.

Qin Yue sighed snd looked down at his phone.

After a seconds thought, he installed the chatting software and carefully created an account. After several layers of verification, Qin Yue finally got his brand new account.

After linking his bank card for payments, he exited the app. Checking the time and seeing there was still so

me time left before orientation would begin, he dropped his phone by his pillow and drifted off to sleep.
