I hate my life. The monotony bores me. The constant routine of waking up, going to college, doing assignments and coming back home to realize I will probably work a job I hate even more.
The only solace I had was the webnovels I read in my spare time (and maybe sometimes during class too.) My favorite novel was The Reaper of the Academy, sounds cheesy I know but to me it was what hit the spot after attending a lecture from a professor that should have taken lessons in public speaking before entering a lecture hall.
It was a classic underdog story about a kid from humble origins getting a dark and mysterious power and then attending an academy where nobles looked down on him and he had to face multiple villainous threats.
After reading I always imagined myself in that world, what I would have done differently. It reminds of those 'Stuck as an Extra' stories. I would definitely not choose to stay in the background and would try to be an important character if I had the knowledge. In fact I hoped for it to happen one day, that I would be transported to my favorite story.
One day, after reading a particularly infuriating chapter of one those Extra novels where the extra refuses to reveal himself or try to take the spotlight I got tired and just said to myself, "I swear to god bro, I would for sure be the main character if I had the chance."
These words would haunt me for the rest of my life because in my head I heard another set of truly haunting words, "Are you sure about that."
