Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: How sweet is life?

RING

RING

Like every other day, I wake up to the sound of my alarm. The working days are finally over, and I can't wait to celebrate 'Thank God It's Friday' along with my pet bird.

Hopping off the bed, I rummage through my closet to find an outfit that fits my mood and still keeps my image as a CEO intact, I finally decide on a blue suit pants and a white shirt. After taking a not so fast shower, I slip into my outfit, leaving some of my shirt's top buttons undone. Applying some light makeup, I put on a pair of nice blue stilettos, grab a black purse and other requirements, then I walk out of my room.

"Sarah, can you pack my breakfast and hand it to Daniel?" I ask my housekeeper when I get downstairs to the kitchen.

"Ok, Miss Mona." Sarah replies after sending back my greeting.

"Please, tell him I'm leaving first." I say referring to my assistant, Daniel, before I walk out of the kitchen.

Choosing to go in my Bentley today, I permit Tom, my driver, to race along to the office.

Not gonna lie, I'm starting to get tired of the extravagant greetings my employees give me on a regular basis. Dude, I was here yesterday! Keep it down!

Walking into the building and trying my hardest not to dismiss the effort of my employees to show due respect to me, I take model long strides to my office.

I became the CEO of TechFair, a tech company I inherited from my dad five years ago when I was twenty-two. My life has been so great and stress free since then. The feeling of having enough to buy and even sponsor others is one I can never trade. Hardly anything bothers me, I'm sorry, but I'm that carefree.

Have you heard the saying 'Being single is a pickle life'? No, you haven't! I made that up, haha. It makes sense, though, because being single is definitely an easy life. I get to do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and how I want to do it without thinking about the feelings of another person I'm committed to. Just because these are my take on single life doesn't mean I'm a casanova. On the contrary, I'm a rather possessive and jealous person. It's good to say it out instead of hiding something that is true.

"Good morning, Miss Mona." Daniel greets me after I let him in.

Finally, I can get some work done. I love my work. Developing apps, games, devices, and more is really fun to do.

"You have nothing scheduled today except review of some budget plans from three HOD'S. I also wanted to remind you about going to your parents' house for your sister's event." Daniel gives a rundown while I acknowledge all the plans before he leaves to bring the HOD'S in individually.

I can never forget my sister's plan after all she is getting married. I'm very happy for her but still in shock that my younger sister is getting married.

Lisa is twenty-five, two years younger than I am. She's finally decided to tie the knot with her long-term boyfriend. She is the COO of the company since it's family related. Although we are not blood related or share a bond from outer space, there is absolutely no sibling rivalry. We both understand that I am older and she is younger, period! Lisa is my adopted sister. She was adopted as a newborn two years after I was born. My mother, being a doctor, did something selfless that I'm grateful for when she adopted Lisa after finding out that she lost her mother and her father was pretty much unknown. Probably because they have never had to worry about funds, that's why my parents found it easy to raise both of us. I don't know the answer, but I also want to selflessly do something too. They definitely inspired me.

It took over two hours before I rounded off the meetings with the three HOD'S, and I was exhausted. I did have the breakfast Daniel brought, but right now, I'm famished. I stay another two hours in the office depending on snacks to hold me up because I prefer eating food that I know the source of, not that I can't eat from other places but, my germophobia would just keep telling my brain lies sometimes so I opt for meals I know where they're being made.

"I drive his ferrari, and I'm light-skinned black~" I sing for myself, checking myself out in the mirror.

It took me a lot of self-control to not do the snow white mirror mirror on the wall stunt.

Pressing the 'give up' button, I grab my bag and make my way out of the office, aiming to go to my parents' house to satisfy my hunger. The ride was about a forty-five minute journey before Tom parked the car directly in front of the stairs leading to the door of my parents' house.

"Mom, Dad, Lisa!" I called out when I noticed the house was very quiet.

"Good evening, Miss Mona. Sir and Miss Lisa went for a shopping date while Madam went to the hospital after a consultation request was sent to her." Luke, the butler, informed me.

"Good evening, Miss Mona. Sir and Miss Lisa went for a shopping date while Madam went to the hospital after a consultation request was sent to her." Luke, the butler, informed me.

"OK, Luke. Can you please tell the kitchen that I'll like something to eat. I just want to freshen up." I instruct, and after receiving affirmation from Luke, I go to my room.

It's crazy how I forgot to remove my phone from silence and never thought to use it throughout the day, and now I have over sixty-two messages and calls from my best friend Maddy.

Baddy Maddy-Line: Mona, answer me!

Baddy Maddy-Line: Where is your phone??

Baddy Maddy-Line: Are you seriously ignoring me?

Looking at how mad she sounds through her text, I immediately dial her line.

"Hi Maddy." I greet, playing it cool.

"Don't 'hi' me!" Madilyn exclaims, huffing in anger.

"I'm sorry, my love. My phone was on silent."

"Don't ever try this again, I was very worried!"

I can say I apologised nothing less than twenty times during that call because not only did I make Maddy worried, I caused her to panic too. My guilt was also a major reason for my continuous apology
