Chapter 9 - Waiting at the Gate

The terminal opened into a wide hallway filled with bright screens, coffee shops, and rows of seats where travelers waited with tired eyes and eager hearts. Parampal Singh stepped into this space slowly, almost carefully, as if he didn't want to miss a single detail.

This was the moment between two worlds—not home anymore, but not yet the sky.

He checked his boarding pass again: Gate 32.It felt unreal seeing his name printed beside a destination thousands of kilometers away.

As he walked toward the gate, everything around him seemed to move in slow motion. A man flipping through a travel magazine. A couple sharing earphones. Kids chasing each other while their parents tried to keep them from running too far. People from different countries, different lives, but all heading somewhere.

Parampal Singh found an empty seat near the window.Outside, aircraft moved quietly across the runway like giant metallic birds preparing to fly. Every few minutes, one would lift off—smooth, powerful, disappearing into the clouds.

He felt something tighten in his chest.

Not fear. Not excitement.Something between the two.

A soft announcement played overhead, calling passengers for another flight. The sound reminded him that soon—very soon—his own flight number would echo through the speakers.

He took out his notebook and opened it to a blank page. For a moment, he didn't write anything. He just breathed, letting the calm settle inside him.

Then he wrote one line:

"This is where my world expands."

When he looked up again, the sky outside had turned brighter. The plane at Gate 32 was readying for boarding. People began lining up, luggage in hand, eyes forward.

Parampal Singh stood.

His heart beat once—steady.

The world was waiting.

And he was ready to walk toward it.
