Chapter 11 - The Donovans Fall

AT THE COUNTRY'S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AT DAWN.

The sleek black wheels of the private jet touched down with a low hiss, its engines humming to silence on the exclusive tarmac.

The jet's door opened and a figure emerged.

Draped in a long black coat, her headscarf tightly wrapped and dark glasses shielding her eyes. She gracefully descended the stairs each step echoed like a warning.

She paused at the final step and with slow precision removed her sunglasses revealing eyes sharp as ice and just as cold.

She scanned the runway, her gaze slicing through the air like a blade.

A smirk tugged at her lips.

"I'm back,"she said,her voice low and dangerous.

And it's time you paid your debt.

AMY'S HOME

Morning sunlight filtered through cream curtains, casting soft golden rays across the spacious, luxurious bedroom. At the center of the room, on a queen-sized mattress draped in high thread count sheets, a petite frame stirred beneath the covers.

Amy's lashes fluttered open. And for a moment she just lay there, in silence, staring up at the intricate crystal chandelier above her. It felt like any other morning until it didn't.

She sat up slowly, eyes scanning the room.

No gentle knock. No soft voice saying, "Miss Amy, it's time."

Julia, her maid was nowhere in sight.

A flicker of discomfort passed through her. She waited a minute more. Nothing. A knot formed in her stomach, not out of anger but if knowing.

She dragged herself out of bed, feet touching the cold marble floor. She went into the bathroom and freshened up after struggling to mix her bath water.

She padded into the dining area after dressing up, where the smell of food bland, unfamiliar met her.

Her older brother stood awkwardly beside the table, setting down a mismatched plate.

"I tried," he muttered.

Amy sat, picked up the fork, and took a bite.

It was edible. But not the chef's five-star magic she'd known all her life. Her lips twisted. Tears burned the edges of her vision as the taste dragged her mind back to the night before the way her father's voice cracked as he admitted they'd lost everything. That they were surviving off the last favor Principal Matthews owed them. That she Amy Donovan was now living on scholarship.

She remembered how she had screamed. How her illusions shattered. How she'd curled into herself and sobbed into the silk pillow, crying herself to sleep with no dinner. Just pride and pain.

Now, the food tasted like ashes.

She pushed the plate away and whispered to herself, "This isn't happening."

But it was.

And this was only the beginning.

Her brother drove her to school, her chauffeur would be driving her father from now on.

The drive to school was quiet. Olivia already left in her new ride.

Amy? Her brother called out breaking her out of her thoughts.

No on must know okay? Not even Olivia.

Why? Olivia is my best friend.

You think? Tell her your situation and see how fast she switches up on you. There's no true friend in the world of the rich, everyone is with you for what you can offer and they'll f***king discard you when you no longer have anything to offer.

Please Amy, at least for the fact that this has to stay a secret between you, dad, and I for the time being. Please do not say a word of this to anyone, the wall have ears always remember that.

The rest of the ride was quiet after Amy promised to keep their financial situation a secret, spilling it wasn't gonna favor her anyways.

Olivia was recording a video of her new ride by herself, something Amy always did with her whenever she got a new car.

She wasn't sure of how she'll feel if she was still the rich Amy, but seeing her friend excluding her this way hurt.

She turned around and left after watching Olivia prete

nd not to notice her.

Her brother was right. She needs to keep it together.
