Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Brushing Entries

A virtual screen the size of an A4 sheet suddenly unfolded before Ron's eyes. At its center was a half-body portrait of a red-haired youth.

"Hmm? Isn't this… me?"

Ron blinked. The face wasn't his original appearance from Earth, but the appearance of the body he now occupied. His heartbeat quickened. Could this be… his golden finger?

He forced himself to calm down and examined the screen more closely.

At the top glimmered a silver five-pointed star. To the left of the portrait was a neatly printed name: Ron Arnold.

"The original owner's name? Same as mine?"

He had no way to confirm it, so he set the thought aside and continued reading.

At the bottom of the screen—occupying nearly a third of the entire display—was the most striking feature:

Entry 1: Gluttonous and Lazy (White)

Ron sank into silence.

So this was his cheat? A character-card interface, reminiscent of the RPGs he used to play.

The silver star likely represented potential or tier. The name and portrait were self-explanatory.

But the entry… that had to be the core.

"Gluttonous and Lazy… no way that's talking about me. It must be the original owner. Definitely not me."

As Ron focused on the entry, an annotation surfaced directly in his mind:

Gluttonous and Lazy:As a born noble, you possess refined taste in food. Disinclined to physical labor, you excel at directing others to work for you.

Ron was stunned.

This was the first time in his life he had ever seen someone explain "gluttonous and lazy" in such a positive manner.

A moment later, something behind the entry caught his eye—a circular arrow icon. A refresh symbol.

Ron's eyes brightened. He already knew what that meant.

"Young Master, your coffee is ready."

The sudden voice made Ron stiffen. Elva had walked in at some point, but he had been too absorbed to notice. Yet the screen remained fully visible—apparently only to him.

He leaned back calmly and said with noble indifference, "Mm. Go stand guard."

"Yes, Young Master."

Etiquette dictated nobles maintain distance, but Ron allowed Elva to call him "Young Master" privately. As long as Egbert didn't hear it, she was allowed the privilege—and she cherished it deeply.

Once she left, Ron smiled at his character card.

"How many times can I refresh? Does it need resources? Energy? A daily limit?"

Speculation was pointless. Only testing mattered.

He focused on the refresh icon. The entry blurred, flickered—then changed.

Ambitious but Untalented (White):

You possess long-term vision and keen insight, but your personal execution ability is diminished.

Still white. But that wasn't the important part.

The important part was that it changed.

"Again!"

He refreshed several more times.

'Honest and Uncorrupted.'

'Fat and Prosperous.'

'Short and Powerful.'

All sorts of bizarre white entries appeared.

"It can still be refreshed?"

Ron's excitement surged. There seemed to be no limit—refresh after refresh, endlessly.

After dozens more attempts, a faint green light shimmered.

Approachable (Green):

People around you will naturally develop goodwill, becoming close to and protective of you.

A green entry! Higher tier than white—just as he expected.

And still refreshable.

"Heh… an infinite refresh system, is it? Watch me roll the strongest entry!"

Ron's grin was pure childlike glee.

Time slipped away. Morning turned to noon.

By now, Ron's eyes were slightly bloodshot from staring at the screen. He had rolled blue entries… and even purple ones—rare as they were.

He estimated purple appeared roughly once in a thousand refreshes.

Manageable, with infinite tries.

"Is purple the highest…?"

Current entry:

Heavenly Demeanor (Purple):

Your mere presence makes ordinary people feel inadequate. Learning any knowledge is as easy as picking it up from the ground.

Powerful—very powerful.

But still not what Ron wanted.

"No eternal-life type entry?"

To transmigrate, receive a cheat, and still live only a few decades—what a waste.

The moment the thought arose, something within him snapped open. Ron felt his consciousness soar upward—through the sky, through the clouds, through the cosmos. The universe shrank beneath him, small enough to cup in his palm.

For an instant, he felt divine.

And then…

The sensation vanished.

"What… was that—?"

Before he finished the sentence, his pupils shrank.

A new entry gleamed gold on the screen.

Gold.

The first gold entry he had ever seen.

Eternal Life (Gold, Unique):

You possess endless life. As the sun rises and sets, as the seasons cycle, You exist eternally.

Ron burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Eternal life!

The dream of emperors and beggars alike—now his.

After celebrating, he stabilized his breathing and checked himself. If true immortality existed, his body should show signs.

And it did.

His vitality felt like a boundless ocean. Despite spending an entire morning intensely refreshing, he felt no fatigue whatsoever.

Another detail stood out—

The annotation now addressed him as "You" rather than "you," and the tag Unique was attached.

Unique:Only one can exist within the same space-time.

Ron blinked, then froze.

That label didn't make sense—unless…

"Don't tell me… I can refresh other people's entries too?"

If so… the cheat was simply broken.

To test it, he called Elva back.

When she entered, Ron stared at her—nothing appeared.

Strange.

He silently willed the card to appear.

Still nothing.

"Young Master, shall we head to lunch?" Elva asked gently.

"Go."

He lifted his hand—and accidentally brushed her fingertip.

A familiar sensation flashed.

Ron's eyes sharpened.

He sat down again, lifted a hand elegantly, and said, "Help me up."

Elva, accustomed to his whims, obeyed.

Their fingers touched.

A character card appeared.

Unlike his, this one displayed an extra line—Favorability.

Silver One-Star

Elva

Favorability: 80 (Respect)

Entry 1: Capable Maid (White)

Ron narrowed his eyes.

"How capable… exactly?"

Before he could inspect further, she let go and the card vanished.

So physical touch—skin-to-skin—was the activation condition. Touching through clothing didn't work.

And yes—she had a refresh icon too.

Elva was only a test subject; Ron had no plans to power up a maid. The discovery itself was enough.

In the Arnold Barony, nobles dined separately from servants. Ron arrived at the spacious dining hall to find Egbert and a line of attendants waiting in orderly rows.

He scanned the room and took the head seat without hesitation.

It was strange being watched while eating, but he was slowly getting used to it.

Today's lunch included venison, fist-sized wild bird eggs Abel had hunted with great effort, and a vegetable Egbert called Marja—a local delicacy.

Ron cut a piece of venison and popped it into his mouth.

He immediately frowned.

Whether it was the deer species or the chef's skill, he didn't know—but the taste was terrible.

After forcing down a few bites, he wiped his mouth elegantly.

"Where is the Head Maid? Out again? If she can't adjust to the Baron's Manor, let her find her own way."

According to noble protocol, the Head Maid—like the butler—should attend the master's meals. The fact she wasn't here was a blatant breach of order.

He would not allow the servants to think him weak.

Leaving the remark hanging, Ron rose and departed.

Thanks to the Eternal Life entry, his confidence soared. His noble aura had sharpened noticeably.

Egbert watched his young master leave—then wiped tears from his eyes.

"Master… the Young Master has truly grown. He will surely bring glory to the Arnold name."
