Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 Categorizing the Girlfriend

Lucifer spent the next twenty-four hours recovering, training, and preparing for the new reality of having a world-ending companion.

Tony Stark, true to his word, had initiated a highly aggressive audit against several S.H.I.E.L.D. black budget accounts, momentarily shifting Fury's focus away from Lucifer.

The hazard bonus landed in his account: $150,000.

[Focus Training 60/60 Minutes]

[Tier 6 Force Field has reached Max Capacity!]

[Tier 6 Force Field Upgraded to Tier 7!]

[Tier 7 Force Field Specifications:]

Duration: 3 minutes 30 seconds

Cooldown: 4 minutes

Sturdiness: Tier 7 (Can shield the user from sustained heavy laser fire, high-yield magical blasts, and a direct impact from a high-velocity tank shell. Sturdy as reinforced adamantium composite.)

Lucifer stared at the new specification. Adamantium composite. He was now officially one of the toughest delivery boys in the world.

He was nearly halfway to his goal, and his defense was approaching Avenger-level durability.

Raven, adapting quickly to the new arrangement, discarded her heavy purple cloak—deeming it "illogical for high-speed logistics"—and adopted a wardrobe Lucifer bought her: simple, dark jeans, a comfortable hoodie, and practical, sturdy boots.

She was undeniably beautiful, with pale skin, intense blue-violet eyes, and a quiet, unassuming manner that drew attention precisely because of its contrast with the chaotic energy she suppressed.

She sat perfectly balanced on the back of Lucifer's scooter, acting as his mobile, silent warning system.

Their routine began immediately. Lucifer would choose a Platinum-Tier delivery—usually a time-sensitive, highly illegal package for Stark or a wealthy, eccentric client.

Raven would activate her Empathy range, sensing hostile intent, police presence, or unexpected emotional spikes along their route.

"Aggressive intent, three o'clock, two blocks ahead,"

Raven would murmur into his ear through the helmet comms, her voice calm.

"Two hostiles, financial motive."

Lucifer would immediately reroute, utilizing his skill to weave through the city, often using the brief windows of his Tier 7 Shield to create evasive launch platforms when necessary.

The pairing was magnetic. Lucifer, the intense, scarred courier, and Raven, the beautiful, quiet girl who held onto him tightly.

People—from street vendors to corporate guards—instantly categorized them.

"Look at that couple,"

A vendor might say, tossing Lucifer his change.

"Guy's got a beautiful girl who rides with him everywhere. She's definitely his girlfriend."

"Stay safe, you two,"

A construction worker would call out, mistaking Raven's silent vigilance for loving concern.

"Happy wife, happy life!"

Lucifer usually just grunted, paid for the gas, and left. Raven, however, was cataloging the terms.

One evening, after a particularly long run that involved dropping off a container of suspiciously glowing goo at a yacht party, they were back in the apartment.

Lucifer was inputting his expenses when he heard Raven's quiet voice.

"Lucifer. Define 'Girlfriend.'"

He paused, bracing himself.

"It's… a romantic partner, Raven. Someone you're emotionally and physically involved with."

"Ah."

Raven turned back to his laptop, where she had searched the term.

She began reading the definitions aloud, comparing them to their current arrangement.

"'A frequent, non-platonic female companion with whom one shares an intimate living space.'"

She nodded.

"'A person with whom one has a mutually caring, supportive, and often exclusive relationship.' I see."

She looked at Lucifer, her expression logically assessing.

"We live together. We share resources. We maintain absolute exclusivity of companionship for operational security. We are highly concerned with the other's physical well-being. For example, you ensure my access to normal sustenance and safe harbor. I ensure your perfect mental focus and physical protection."

"That's a partnership, Raven,"

Lucifer corrected weakly.

"A very dangerous partnership."

"But the output of the relationship matches the social definition,"

Raven persisted, tilting her head.

"The individuals who observed us categorized the relationship based on the supportive, cohabitating, exclusive actions. They define 'girlfriend' as the female component of a stable co-dependent unit."

She looked at him, her eyes clear and free of shadow.

"I feel no discomfort when they apply the term. It is an accurate description of the operational parameters of our relationship, even if the emotional foundation is rooted in trauma bonding and mutual survival."

Lucifer stared at her. He couldn't argue with the cold, scientific logic of her explanation.

They were functionally a couple, sharing every aspect of their lives, without the messy, unpredictable element of human romance.

She wasn't claiming she loved him; she was claiming the term "girlfriend" was the correct metadata tag for their unique alliance.

"So, you accept it,"

Lucifer stated, a hint of genuine surprise in his voice.

"I accept the logical congruence of the label,"

Raven affirmed.

"It provides a clear external categorization, which limits unnecessary social friction. If others categorize me as your 'girlfriend,' they cease probing our intentions, allowing us to maintain operational invisibility."

She returned to the sink, picking up a bowl to wash.

"It is efficient, Lucifer. And I do not feel the need to suppress the designation."

Lucifer ran a hand through his hair.

His life had gone from Bronze-Rank delivery man to meta-human escort with an adamantium shield and a psycho-kinetic girlfriend who classified their relationship based on data points.

He decided that diving into the complexities of human emotion with Raven—who was still trying to master scrambled eggs—was a higher-risk endeavor than the Platinum deliveries.

"Fine,"

Lucifer conceded.

"Just… don't expect any flowers or Hallmark cards, girlfriend."

Raven looked back, a rare, soft smile on her lips.

"I prefer you simply focus on hitting your goal, Lucifer. That is sufficient support."

Lucifer smiled back, the bond between them solidified by chaos and efficiency.

He felt more protected and oddly happier than he had in years.

Lucifer and Raven continued the intense grind.

With Raven's perfect focus, the time between Tier upgrades shrank dramatically.

The constant high-risk deliveries and training allowed him to rapidly approach the Rank threshold.

Two more weeks passed in a blur of hyper-efficient logistics, silenced thugs, and the smell of slightly burnt food in their apartment.

[Focus Training 60/60 Minutes]

[Tier 7 Force Field has reached Max Capacity!]

[Tier 7 Force Field Upgraded to Tier 8!]

[Tier 8 Force Field Specifications:]

Duration: 4 minutes

Cooldown: 3 minutes

Sturdiness: Tier 8 (Can shield the user from orbital kinetic attacks, sustained high-frequency magical bombardment, and direct impact from a mid-tier Kryptonian or equivalent metahuman. Sturdy as hyper-dense neutronium plating.)

Lucifer stared at the final stat.

Neutronium plating.

He was approaching indestructible.

He was tantalizingly close to the million goal and his Gold Rank.

"Just over $100,000 to go,"

Lucifer murmured, flexing his fingers.

"And I have one Platinum-Tier delivery left for Tony. The final push."

Lucifer received the details of the job. It was the highest-paying, most dangerous delivery yet: $150,000 for a single run.

The package was a highly sensitive piece of experimental tech—a small, highly complex power cell—that needed to be transported from Stark Tower to a remote, secure facility off the California coast.

The job was slated for the next day.

"This is it, Raven,"

Lucifer said, showing her the information.

"The final before the rank up."

Raven looked at the manifest, her eyes sharp.

"The security protocols are excessive. This will be monitored by the highest levels of global defense. We will encounter hostile interception."

"I have neutronium plating and the world's most terrifying girlfriend,"

Lucifer replied, strapping on his suit.

"Let's finish this."
